F O U R
Dallon pushed himself up from the bed, panting for breath. Another nightmare. Another kidnapping. Another near death experience for himself and Kenny...
He turned to his side, seeing his boyfriend sleeping soundly beside him. Dallon nudged Kenny, earning a soft mumble of something incoherent in response. He was out like a light.
Dallon sighed. His breathing had calmed, but he felt sweaty. He slid out of bed and made his way to the bathroom just outside of his and Kenny's bedroom.
Looking in the mirror, Dallon could see trails of sweat running down his head and torso. Dark bags hung under his bloodshot eyes, almost mocking him. His nightmares had been taking a physical toll on him. He wiped his hand across his forehead and turned to the shower.
They had to stop eventually. These bad dreams couldn't last forever. He turned on the water, waiting on the outside of the shower as steam began to fill the room. Maybe he should see a therapist...
He dropped his underwear and stepped under the burning water. He closed his eyes and let it flow over him, losing himself in thought.
Demons. Angels. Witches. All nothing more than fiction that plagued him every time he closed his eyes. Why?
There was always one constant face that would wake Dallon up. The face of someone that Dallon never remembered upon opening his eyes. He just knew it was a man... Or something that looked like a man...
"Dal?"
Dallon opened his eyes as the shower door was pulled open. He wouldn't admit how his muscles had tensed at the sound, afraid that it was a monster of his imagination coming to snatch him away. Instead, his tired boyfriend stood just outside the shower, rubbing his eyes.
"It's two in the morning..." Kenny mumbled, still trying to rub sleep from his eyes.
"Did I wake you up?"
Kenny shook his head. "Water did." He blinked at Dallon before continuing, "Why are you up?"
Dallon sighed. He didn't want to worry Kenny, but there was no sense lying to him. "Dreams again."
Kenny frowned. He motioned for Dallon to step backwards and stepped into the shower himself. He shut the door and wrapped his arms around Dallon, resting his head on the taller man's chest. "You've been having those a lot."
Every night. Dallon wrapped his arms around Kenny, feeling better with the water hitting his arms again. Kenny didn't know how bad it really was. Kenny didn't know what Dallon's dreams wanted him to do...
Dallon shut his eyes tightly at the mere thought.
"Do you want to see someone?" Kenny suggested. He still sounded tired, despite the hot water running down his back. "I can make an appointment."
"Maybe..." Dallon pressed a kiss to the top of Kenny's head. "Maybe we should go back to sleep now, though."
"That sounds nice." Kenny nodded, "I can make you an appointment in the morning... Are you sure you can sleep?" Kenny looked up at Dallon. His concern was able to push through the tiredness in his gaze.
Dallon nodded, leaning down to kiss Kenny. "I'm okay now."
Slowly, they made their way out of the shower. The water was turned off. They made their way back to the bedroom. Kenny fell asleep quickly, draping and arm across Dallon's chest. Dallon, however, stared at the ceiling.
What creatures would creep into his dreams if he dared close his eyes again? What terrible things would they whisper to him? What would they want him to do for their benefit?..
He looked at the sleeping man next to him. He loved Kenny. More than anyone else. He couldn't bear the thought of following through with what the voices in his dreams demanded.
Dallon kept staring at the ceiling until daylight began to creep into the room.
