Chapter 5
Well, if you have decided to see what the hell happens next, ima glad you moved on! NOW READ! This is a lot longer than the other one.
"What do you mean, it'll never heal?!" Laff asked. When he woke up, he was in a new place, surrounded by strange people. When they told them who they were, he felt himself relax. They were Tueres. They were Natalie's people. He realized that he felt much better than before, and they told him that they had sped up his healing for his injuries, except for his ankle. "When it broke, it also pulled away, separating them. They can't heal unless they are close enough." one of the doctors said. Laff rubbed his temples, processing everything. "Is there any way to get them closer?" Laff asked. "Possible, but we need to wait until the medicine for the other injuries to get out of your system." the doctor said. Laff sighed. "Laff?" Laff turned and saw a young woman standing in the doorway. "Please leave us." she told the doctors. They all left, and the woman shut the door. "Did we do something wrong?" Laff asked. "No, not at all." she said. "Who are you?" Laff asked. "I'm Faith, Natalie's aunt. I was her mother's sister." Faith said. Laff was stunned. "You're her aunt?" Laff asked. "Yes. But I was too busy here, and it broke my heart not to see them. They brought so much joy into my heart." Faith said. They both got quiet for a moment. "I have...bad news." Faith said. "What?" Laff asked. Faith was quiet before answering. "It has to do with your friend Socks." she said. "What happened? What the hell happened?" Laff asked. Faith could see that Laff was starting to worry. "Chaos...used an old potion recipe...which could send someone back to their original time, but used it on Socks, who was in his right time...and became a glitch in time. He's gone." Laff felt his world shatter. "A glitch...in time." Laff said. Faith nodded. "A glitch in time is someone who has no certain time they belong to, so they just...wander around, but sometimes they can mess it up, which is why we are careful and watchful when we sense them." Laff pulled his mask off and looked at it. He had so many memories with this, many with Socks. Tears fell down his face. "I'm sorry." Faith said. They both got quiet. "A.m I. de.a.d.?" They turned around and saw someone. "Socks?!" Laff yelped. "He.y.He.y La.f.La.ff" Socks said, smiling nervously. Socks was standing there, but what was disturbing was that his body was glitching, some parts disappearing, others moving away from him, then coming back. They were almost like a computer glitch. When he spoke, it was pausing, or delayed. "Socks, what happened to you?" Laff whispered. "I. Do.Don't kn.Know. I.I.I Just Fou..ND My..self li.li.like this." Socks said. "He's glitched up." Faith said. "Socks, what is the last thing you remember?" Laff asked. Socks thought about that, and his arm disappeared, then reappeared. "Chaos, he.H.e did so.Some.Thi.Something. With A P.o.tion." Socks said. "He made you a glitch in time." Faith said. Socks got quiet, his body glitching. "It. Hur.Hurts." Socks said. "What does?" Laff asked. "Ev.Every ti.TIme I.I.I glit.ch. It h..urts. It....s like my b.body is BEing..ri.ripped app.Art." Socks said. Laff felt his heart get heavy. "There has got to be something we can do to help him." Laff said. "I'm going to the Elders to talk to them. If they know anything about this, they'll tell." Faith said. "Wh.At. Abou.t.t Me?" Socks. "Stay here for now. I'll be as quick as possible." Faith said, and left. Laff sighed. Socks stood in the corner, nervous for some reason. "What are we going to do?" Laff asked. "I...I do.n't know." Socks said. Socks was nervous, feeling like he shouldn't be here. "Laff?" It was Jooice, and he was right outside the door. Socks felt his heart race, and he glitched even more. "Hide!" Laff mouthed. Socks suddenly disappeared, leaving Laff alone. Laff heard footsteps, and they faded away. Jooice must've thought that he was asleep. Laff sighed with relief. Socks appeared again, shock in his face. "What happened?" Laff asked. "I..I do..n't kknow." Socks said. Laff sighed. "Let's get some rest, there is another bed over there." Laff said. Socks nodded, and went over to the bed. He quickly fell asleep, but Laff stayed up a bit. If this was how Socks was going to be like for the rest of his life...Laff pushed the thought away, and fell asleep.
...
"I knew it. I sensed it." one of the Elders said. Faith nodded. "And he's here. He's not acting like any of the other ones we've seen. He came back to the time he belongs in. But he's definitely a glitch." The group of Elders she was talking to knew well about glitches. "Is there any way to reverse it?" Faith asked. "My dear, glitches are tricky. Even if we had a cure, they may not want it!" one elder said. "Yes, but he's different, he wants to come back." Faith said. "Does he want to, or does his friends?" another elder said. "If he doesn't want to come back, then why did he come back here? As a glitch? Anyone who's become a glitch never comes back to their original time. Mostly." Faith said. One of them, the oldest in the group, had their eyes closed. "I bet Bebe has an idea." one of the elders said. Bebe opened her eyes. "There is a way to reverse the effects of the glitched, but it is dangerous." she said. "Really?" Faith gasped. Bebe nodded. "How?" Faith asked. "As I said, it's dangerous, but it is possible. You need to take him to one of the old mines, and leave him there. After that, it's up to him." Bebe said. "But Bebe, there is only one mine left, and it's unstable!" one elder said. "Like I said, dangerous." Bebe said. Faith took a deep breath. "Where is it?" Faith asked. "Faith, are you nuts?" another elder exclaimed. "No, I'm doing this for Socks. He didn't ask to become a glitch." Faith said. Bebe nodded. "There is a map in the Library. You'll have to ask for it." Faith nodded. "Thank you for your time everyone." she said. They all nodded, and she left. She went back to the room, and found both of them asleep. She smiled, and carefully closed the door. She would give them some rest. She went back, and saw one of them looking around. It was Jooice. "Are you alright?" she asked. Jooice jumped, and saw her. "Um, just lost. I already know where I am, I mean..." Jooice was so confused with everything. "It's alright." Faith said. "I'm Jooice." Jooice said. "I'm Faith, Natalie's aunt." Faith said. "Wait, really?" Jooice asked. Faith nodded. "Very cool. Hey, is Laff awake?" Joocie asked. "No, not yet." Faith said. Jooice sighed. "I...um...heard about Socks." Faith felt her skin get cold. "Don't ask me how. I just did." Jooice said. "Um...about that..." Faith said. Suddenly, Socks glitched right in front of them. "WHAT THE HELL?!" Jooice yelled. Socks was confused at first from waking up, then fear filled him. "Jooice, relax!" Faith said. Jooice was panicking. What had just happened? "Socks?" Jooice whispered. Socks smiled a little nervously. "Hi." Faith was trying to keep this quiet, but Socks was just...well, glitching into places! "What happened to him?" Jooice asked Faith. "Chaos made him a glitch in time. He has no fixed time to stay in. Sure, he can stay in one, but it will never feel like home, or a safe place for him." Faith said. Socks rubbed his hands nervously, glitching out in some areas. "But the good news is that I think I have a lead on a cure, bad news...well, it could be impossible to reach." Socks was immediately focused. "Wh.at do yyou mEan?" Socks asked. "Wait, you talk glitched up?" Jooice asked. "Ummm, ye.yeah." Socks said. "Okay, I have to admit, that is kinda cool." Jooice said. Socks chuckled. "Anyway, one of the Elders said that one of the old mines, where we went to focus and learn about the past, is where Socks should be able to heal. Problem is, all the mines were destroyed by Chaos, except one." Socks glitched up even more when she mentioned Chaos. "Take a chill pill Socks." Jooice said. "Sorry. I.I ju.Just hAve t...rouble con.con.controlling it." Socks said. "I have to get a map from the library. Then we'll be ready to go." Faith said. "Wai.Wait. WhEre are the.the o.o...thers?" Socks asked. "They are still asleep. I promise they're fine." Faith said. Socks nodded, but he was glitching out more than usual. "C'mon, we're going to talk. I'm bored." Jooice said. He grabbed Socks arm, and half-lead, half dragged him away. Faith chuckled. "They might brighten things up around here." she mused. "Jooooice, you c.can sto.Stop drag.ging me." Socks said. "Okay, but don't glitch away." Jooice said. He let go, and Socks stayed where he was. Socks sighed, looking at his arms, which were glitching. "Does it hurt?" Jooice asked. Socks nodded. "Maybe try controlling it." Jooice said. "Ho.How?" Socks asked. "Don't ask me. Just try." Jooice said. Socks gave Jooice an annoyed look, then closed his eyes. Very sudden, the glitching slowed down. "Dude, it's working!" Jooice said happily. "Wait, really?" Socks said, opening his eyes. When he noticed how he wasn't glitching as much, his heart skipped a beat. "Okay, th.that's weird but am.amazing." Socks said. "Okay, so that's an improvement." Jooice said. Socks nodded. Suddenly his glitching increased, just like before. "Ser.Seriousl.ly!" Socks groaned. "Maybe you need to focus on it." Jooice said. "Bu.But I st.t.till nEed tooo focus.s on oth.Other stu.ff." Socks said. "Good point." Jooice said. Socks sighed, sitting down. "Why.Why did he. H.E do this?" Socks asked. "Because he wants us to go away from the battle. And he may just want us dead." Jooice said, sitting next to Socks. Tears fell from Socks face, but he didn't care. He focused on trying to stop the glitching. Jooice noticed the difference, but when it seemed like the glitching had stopped, Socks was trying to keep it that way. "What even is the point of being a glitch in time?" Socks asked. Jooice was surprised at how he didn't glitch up when he spoke. Socks lost focus, and started glitching again. He sighed. "What do you feel like right now? Does it feel like this is home?" Jooice asked. Socks wasn't sure whether to answer or not. "No. It. It doesn.n't" Jooice nodded. Fair enough. Socks couldn't help it. Faith came back suddenly. "How did you find us?" Jooice asked. "My power host allows me to see through things, for example, through walls." Faith said. "Huh." Jooice said. She pulled an old roll of paper out. "This has the mines on it. The only one that isn't destroyed is this one." she said, pointing to a part of the map. "Where are we right now?" Jooice asked. "We're not far from it, but it will take about a day or two. It's the closest one." Faith said. Socks glitched more, unsure of what to say. "Who would go with him?" Jooice asked. "I.I caN go.Go by my.m.myself." Socks said. "Dude, the state you're in right now makes that hard to believe." Jooice said. "And I think, once everyone knows about this, would feel much better if you went with someone they can trust." Faith said. "I can go with him." Jooice and Faith jumped, and Socks glitched even more when L4FF appeared. "Dude, don't do that next time." Jooice said. "Sorry. But I can go with him." L4FF said. "Well, he can go with him, I trust him." Jooice said. "Bu.But whAt...wha.what abo...ut the OThers?" Socks asked. "I'll let them know of the situation." Faith said. "When should they leave?" Jooice asked. "As soon as possible." Faith said. Socks suddenly glitched, and disappeared. "That's not good, is it?" L4FF asked, looking around. "No, he just glitched away." Faith said. They began to look for him. But Socks was no longer in the building. He opened his eyes, and found himself in a forest. "Gu.Guys?" he called out. When he was greeted with silence, he felt fear bloom inside him. He took a deep breath, and went deeper into the forest. He kept glitching and the pain he felt was unbearable. "He.Hell.o?" he called out again. No one answered. He sighed, then sat beneath a tree. He didn't need sleep, but he felt like taking a nap. "Henwy, where are you?" Socks jumped when he heard the voice. It was Ssundee. Socks panicked, unsure where Ssundee was. He heard movement behind him, and ran to a rock and hid behind it. He peeked out, and saw Ssundee was right where he was a few seconds before. "Where the heck is he?" Ssundee said to himself. Socks hid behind the rock again, closing his eyes. How was he here? He didn't have a crystal. Socks looked back, and realized something. Ssundee looked younger. Suddenly, Sigils came out of the brush. "Any sign of him?" Ssundee asked. "No, but I did find this cool crystal." Sigils said. He reached into his pocket, and pulled out one of the crystals. Socks held his breath. He was back in time! He was at the moment when Sigils found the crystal! "That's cool!" Ssundee said. "Yeah, I wonder what kind of crystal it is." Sigils said. He tossed it a little, and when it landed, it opened the portal. "WHOA!" Both of them yelped. "What is that?" Ssundee asked. "I don't know!" Sigils said. He went a little closer, and then stepped in. "Sigils!" Ssundee yelped. Ssundee was all alone. He suddenly turned and ran. Socks sighed. "O.Okay. BaCk i.In time." Socks said. He remembered Faith had said that glitches had the ability to change time, and he knew he needed to be careful. He looked back at the portal, and a sense of longing came to him. He wanted to go home, where it was safe. But how could he go unnoticed? He closed his eyes, and imagined that he was invisible. When he opened his eyes, he saw that he couldn't see his hands. "Swe.et." he whispered. He went out into the open, and went through the portal. When he went through, he almost gasped. He saw himself when he was younger. "So our worlds are connected now?" Dream asked. "I believe so." Zack said. "I mean, I thought I would never meet Dream, but now." he heard himself say. Socks couldn't believe it. He was back in time. But then a horrible feeling came back to him. That meant Chaos was going to come back! He had to do something! While they all were talking, Socks glitched away, heading to the plains where they fought the monster Chaos. He looked around, pain filling him. This was where Nadwe was killed. He sat on the ground, the sun warming his back. He closed his eyes, letting tears fall down. He couldn't come back to life, but he couldn't die. He was stuck in this endless loop for good. "Who are you?" he heard someone say, he turned around, and saw a young man, but what stunned him was that this man was also glitching, but not as much as Socks was. He was also a glitch in time. 'I...I'm So.Socks." Socks said. "You must be new to being a glitch, based on how much you're glitching, and the way you talk." the man said. "So?" Socks asked. "My friend, I have been a glitch for ten years." "Te.n yeArs?!" Socks exclaimed. The man nodded. "I know the rules about time, and trust me, don't mess with it." Socks nodded. "So, you new?" the man said. Socks nodded. "It's definitely confusing when you're a glitch for the first time. But I can help." the man said. Socks didn't know whether to trust him or not. "Listen, we glitched...we used to be alive too. But when someone decided to make glitches, I was one of those people. It took me a while to find out what to do with my life now. We can't die, we're just stuck. But that doesn't mean we can't have fun. C'mon, let me show you." the man said. Socks sighed. "I...I wa.want to go.o wi...with yo.u, buT I NEed to.to.to go back. Som.Somone is G.Go.ing to Ma.ke M...ore glitc.hes." Socks said. The man stared at him. "Someone is going to make more glitches?" the man said. Socks nodded. "No, there's already a lot of us. And some of them tried to reverse or change time, I had to stop them! I can't do that!" he said. "Ho.Hold on. I.I.If yOu he..lp me wITh my gli.glitch, I.I can.n go baCk and stop.stop.stop him." Socks said. The man paused and thought about it. "Alright, deal. Name's Smith by the way." the man said. Socks smiled, and got up. "I promise you, I'll help you. I already lost everyone I loved, but if I can help, I'll do my best." Smith said. "Thank you." Socks said. "Alrighty, ready to meet the group?" Smith said. Socks nodded. "I suggest you close your eyes." Smith said. Socks did, and felt his stomach flip. A few seconds later, Smith said. "Alrighty, we're here." Socks opened his eyes, and gasped. They were in a cozy little house, and there were about a dozen people, all hanging out. "There you are Smith!" a young woman said. "Sorry I'm late, I just met another dude." Smith said. The woman looked at him, and gave him a smile. "Well hello! I'm Jessica." she held out her hand, but it glitched away. "Oh, sorry." she laughed. "You.You're good." Socks said. "You're a new glitch?" someone else said. Socks nodded. "Damn. That's rough. But we'll help you, right guys?" the same person said. They all agreed, and Socks felt his spirit lift. "We all lost our lives when someone made us glitches." Jessica said. "Who.o made yo.you glitc.ches?" Socks asked. "Someone who called themselves 'Chaos'." Smith said. Socks glitched up even more with rage. "Chaos?" Socks asked to clarify. "Wait...he's not alive anymore, is he?" Jessica asked. Socks clenched his fists. "He.He's ali.ve" Everyone in the room felt rage boil in them, each of them glitching. "That son of a gun is still alive? How?" Jessica whispered. "Listen, everyone. Socks needs to get back to his timeline, but his glitch is out of control right now. We need to help him get back to his time, and stop Chaos." Smith said. "We'll get you back Socks. We promise." Jessica said. Socks nodded. "First, let's get you talking normally." Smith said. He pointed to a man, and he came forward. "This is Carter. He'll help you with your talking." Smith said. "Nice to meet you. Follow me." Socks followed Carter to another room, and he shut the door. "How long have you been a glitch?" he asked. "Um. I.I.I think ab.bout a d.day?" Socks said. "Seems about right. So as you can tell, when you're glitched, your voice also glitches." Carter said. "Wh.Why?" Socks asked. "Honestly, none of us know. But we have found ways to get around it. But once in a while, we do glitch in our voice." Carter said. Socks nodded. "Have you had control of your glitch at least once?" Carter asked. "Y.Yeah." Socks said. "Really? Most of us didn't. So that shows that you may be closer than you think." Carter said. Socks felt impressed with himself. "Bu.But HOw do I.I.I ke.keEp i...it that w.ay." Socks asked. "That's the thing. What you want to do is take that focus, and try and...well...think of a safe place in your mind where it can stay focused. If you get stressed or angry, that focus won't go out completely, just wavered for a second." Carter said. Socks nodded, then closed his eyes and focused. He felt the pain stop, and the glitch came to a halt. "That...was fast." Carter said. "Okay, what now?" Socks asked, trying to keep focus. "Think of something in your mind, like a memory of a place or something important to you, and imagine putting the glitch in there." Carter said. Socks had many memories, but which one would work? He remembered the one where his friends were all just hanging out. He missed his friends. He imagined placing the glitch in the memory, relief filling him. "There you go! That was fast!" Carter said. Socks looked at his hands, and they weren't as glitchy as before, only a glitch here and there. "Thank you so much." Socks said. "Anytime. C'mon, I think the others are starting a game." Carter said. They left the room, and Socks saw that the others were putting something on them. "What's going on?" Socks asked. "We're doing laser tag. We've got to keep the mood up, so we play games every other night. Tonight, we're doing laser tag." Carter said, a smile on his face. "Well, that was fast! It took me almost a week to do it." one person said. "I was surprised when he did it." Carter said. "Well, come on, let's get ready." Smith said. Socks grabbed a gun, and looked at it. It was black, with a red stripe on it. He noticed that there were ones with the same red stripe, other's had blue. "They glow in the dark, which helps us identify who's team is who." Jessica said. "They shoot light rays, right?" Socks asked. Jessica nodded. "But we obviously can't see them." Socks pulled the trigger, and a sound that sounded just like a gun came out. But nothing came out. "I think I can change that." Socks said. "How?" Smith asked. Socks put his finger on the trigger, but before he shot, he thought of a color, and chose red. He pulled the trigger, and a small beam of red light shot out, and went through the wall. "What the hell?!" Smith exclaimed. Everyone was amazed by this. "How did you do that?" Carter asked. Socks then told them about power hosts, and how his was light. "You can control light?" a young woman said. "Yeah." Socks said. "That is impressive. Oh dang, I just realized the rest of us never introduced ourselves! I'm Gaea." she said. Socks realized that there was an even amount of people. 7 men, including him, and 7 women. There was Smith, Carter, John, Howard, Gavin, Tom, and Owen. Then there was Jessica, Gaea, Bethany, Zeze, Dixie, Helen, and Tammy. "Well, let's split up, and go into the field." Smith said. Socks was confused about the field, but when Smith opened a door, inside it was black and neon colors. "This is insane!" Socks said, glitching a little. "Where we are right now, is a place where time doesn't affect us. We can feel at home. So we can make anything here." Carter said. Socks was on the red team with Smith, Zeze, Tom, Bethany, Gavin, and Tammy. Everyone else was on Jessica's team. Before they started, Socks took their guns, and made it so that it shot with color. "This is permanent, right?" Dixie asked. "Should be. If not, I can change that." Socks said. They got set up in the field. Socks felt his heart race, excitement rushing through him. "You ready Socks?" Smith asked. "Yeah, definitely." Socks said. A buzzer sounded, and the battle began. Socks hide underneath one of the structures. Everyone was running around, and they seemed to not notice he was there. He took aim, and fired. The red beam shot and he hit Helen. "Damn!" she laughed. He forced himself not to laugh, but he was smiling. He looked around, and fired another shot, but missed. Owen looked where the shot came from, and Socks hid from view. "Socks, I see you!" Owen yelled. Socks laughed, and ran from his hiding spot. Smith shot Howard, a smile on his face. "I got Helen." Socks said. "Nice, Helen's are hard one to get down." Smith said. After the battle, it was only Smith and Socks left. "Nice job." Smith said. Socks smiled. Suddenly, his body burst into pain, splitting apart. "Socks!" Smith yelled. Socks screamed in pain as he fell down. He hit his head, and stars appeared in his vision. "Socks, relax." Jessica said. Socks didn't know what was going on, but then when his vision cleared for a second, his arm was glitching like crazy. "He was focused, so focused!" Carter said, confused. "Sorry man." Smith said. Smith punched Socks in the head, and everything went black.
