Humans: Day 2
Chapter-4: Humans (Day 2)
We were wrong. Completely mistaken. Not only had the sun been obstructed, but our beliefs, too. Not only had the fire died out, but so had our hopes. Now, the world was left in complete darkness; every bit of it, turning into ice with each passing second. The lands were left parched, drying and dying, like our throats and ourselves, even. Not a single droplet of fresh water was there, neither on the land, not under it, as it was proved by the repeatedly cracking soil under our feet. Whatever water we had stored, had mysteriously dried like the rivers that once flowed through our lands. The oceans had frozen over, as expected by the lack of warmth. We tried cracking open the layer of ice and we succeeded. And there was water. Perhaps, we still had a chance of surviving. Perhaps, all hope was not lost.

No. All hope was lost. Like the rivers and the lakes, the ocean had mysteriously dried up as well. All we could see were the dead bodies of the land dwellers and the water dwellers. Birds rained upon us instead of water and bones grew on land in place of plants.
Plants continued to dry up, but at a slower rate. Even with the lack of water, the plants continued to stand. For the time being, we sustained ourselves off the fruits and vegetables that had been grown before all this happened, but none of us were sure of how long it would last. A day? Two? Even if no more disasters occurred, most of the plants would dry up within a matter of days in the absence of sunlight and water. Still, no matter what, we were desperate to live.

Cold. It was way too cold. We tried to light fire, but no method would work. All we could do was cuddle and huddle, wherever we went and whatever we did. This method was effective, but gave us no privacy. But, who cared about privacy when life was at stake?
We could find no drop of water. Nowhere. Nowhere at all. Except the ones we still had in our body. We were surviving off of urine, but for how long will it last when it was the only liquid we were having?
Nature continued to provide us with food, albeit, dry. Extremely dry. At first, fruits and vegetables were almost as juicy as they were supposed to be. But, they had gone dry fast. We need to find another water supply. Fast.
But, the question was, will we be able to? With the rate at which things were going, absolutely not!
