The Speech

"What are you doing here Pete!?" Sam screams at her son.

"You should be somewhere safe, not here! I will have a serious talk with that Pegasus!"

"Don't worry mum everything is fine," he answers as he lands on Peace's back. The moment he touches the unicorn's back there is a huge wave of light. The light is so bright that we have to shield our eyes. We can't look directly at it.

As for the angry humans the moment the light touches them they seem less angry and more confused. They seem a bit hazy about where they are and why. That is when Pete, a small child that is also the great magician makes a speech that makes us all think about what we are doing in a different light.

"Can't you all see what you are doing? You can't fight your way to peace, that is impossible. It makes no sense to fight for peace because fighting and peace are two contradictory words that can't stand together. I know that to you, humans, it seems like the right thing to do since you have always done that. But because something has always been done in a certain way doesn't make it right.

Just because your ancestors fought for freedom doesn't mean you have to do it as well. Think about it, truly think about all the bad things that happened and that could have been prevented. The wars that happened simply because two opposing sides refused to stop and think. They refused to see another person's perspective. It was the darkness that stopped you from doing that, you were its servants and I understand that.

But now, you have your minds to yourselves, use them! Fighting will only make more people suffer and die. More wives will be left to take care of their children alone, having nowhere to turn for help or comfort. Even worse than that more mothers will lose their children in a pointless battle that solves nothing.

Do you want to break the hearts of those mothers? What if it is your mother that ends up with a broken heart? If your children are left fatherless just because you think the right thing to do is murder other living beings. Snuffing out lives can never lead to anything, only more pain and devastation.

Look at you! All righteous and sure of yourselves, what will you do if one of your friends dies today. Will you be the one to inform his family? To tell them that he lost his life in a battle for what? Your TV, your technology? If that is what you truly want, I can give you that. I can give you the choice that everyone has, the choice to live your life the way you see fit, as long as it doesn't involve hurting others.

You didn't want to listen to Peace earlier, but I beg you to listen to me now! Don't let your anger cloud your judgment because once upon a time you were like us. Can't you find that light inside you and make it bigger and brighter than it had ever been? I can't tell you what to do, but I can help you open your eyes and see what beauty you are trying to destroy. This light that I sent out shall help you see things from my perspective. " He says to the humans, and then he turns his attention to us.

"And what about you!?" he yells at us in a voice that doesn't sound like a child's voice at all. "Shouldn't you know better? I know you are trying not to hurt them too much but why are you even fighting them, you who KNOW there is another way. They didn't listen to you, that is true, but you had the power to stop them without hurting them and explain or at least try. I am disappointed with you.

You, all of you, know you are doing the wrong thing and yet that doesn't make you stop, you just keep going. And yes I know what you are thinking. If someone attacks you, shouldn't you defend yourself? But that is the problem, isn't it? You should be the beings of goodness and light, you shouldn't be able to fight. You should be creative and find other ways to deal with conflict.

What makes you any better than them, when you do the very same thing you are disgusted to see them do? You are the same. You both think you are doing the right thing, but that is not the point. What you should do is try to see things from their perspective, try to sympathize because that is who we should be. We should be understanding and loving ones.

They want their technology back, fine, we will think of some way to do that without it being influenced by the darkness. You judge them, but you know nothing about what they went through. My fellow magicals, you know nothing about how hard their lives had been.

All that pain and suffering and the only way for them to avoid being overwhelmed by it all was to dive into another world, the world of movies and TV shows. A world, which you could control. If you didn't like it you could turn it off or rewind the sad parts. They could offer them happy endings that they were afraid to hope for in real life since it seemed that good things always came hand in hand with bad things.

And you human halves of us, mum, dad, aunt May you should know all this very well, you have all been through it. It is so easy for you to forget where you came from now that you have everything you wished for. Don't you remember being dependent on technology, working all the time because you needed money to survive? I know how tired you were of all the strange rules and the heartless world you lived in.

So show some heart now, when people didn't know how to do it then, show us all that you can do it now. And dad I know how much you love video games and games in general, but this is not a game. This is the reality, and in the real world, people get hurt. It is not like they get another life if they lose this one if they die that's it, game over.

I know that you mean well, but this is not the solution, and there are other ways to test your abilities and have fun. All of you are so much better than this so prove me right! Prove me right in believing in you, in believing that when the time comes you would do the right thing! The time has come! Do the right thing!"

After Pete finishes his speech we all feel ashamed of ourselves, especially because even a child could see what should have been obvious to all of us. Fighting with fellow living beings never leads to anything and I feel embarrassed for ever judging the angry humans for their anger. If it weren't for my encounter with Peace I would have probably been like them, angry and lost.

I have experienced only good things after the reunion, but selfishly enough I didn't take into consideration that it wasn't that easy for everyone. It was a difficult transition to be made, and we didn't do as much as we could have to help the angry humans. We just sent them off to Solactia hoping for the best without even taking into consideration them as individuals.

They were just some angry humans, who in our opinion were unjustly angry. We were wrong. They had all the right to be angry and to feel a range of different emotions having in mind that everything that they thought they knew turned out to be false.

We should have tried to offer them counseling, to try to get to know them as the individuals and help them accordingly, but we were to busy making the brave new world. Everyone makes mistakes, but I am hoping that this huge mistake of ours doesn't cost us everything we have.

Flyjoy and I let go of each other's hands and stop our power flow. Sam and Luminous separate and go back to their everyday selves. Ashamed of their actions, even Dan and Gary return to normal and seem to accept the fact that Pete is right.

We are all standing here waiting to see what the humans will do. It is unsure whether Pete's words had a similar effect on them as they did on us. So we just stand there, confused, waiting to see what would happen next.
