The Battle
During the battle, the humans keep going for the kill but luckily for us, their crude weapons are fairly easy to stop. The problem is that there are too many of them so that makes it difficult to stop their attacks without hurting them severely.
It seems to be an unspoken agreement between us not to kill any of the humans we are fighting against. In our hearts still lingers hope that maybe one day they could be saved. It is probably naive of us but still, Peace has shown us how goodness and love should be our guides, and we can't just kill other living beings.
That would make us the same as the humans we are fighting against. Their attacks are so savage and ruthless that they manage to surprise many of the magicals.
They have all heard the stories about human cruelty, but they never had a chance to see it firsthand. At that moment when they could see what darkness did to their fellow creatures, I can see they feel guilty that they ever left humans even though it was the right thing to do.
I can't actually talk with the others, we are in the middle of the battle, but I tell Flyjoy that they did the best they could for us. The only thing we have to do now is to focus on keeping the peace and well-being we have fought for so hard.
Finally, I can feel him accepting the truth behind my words, and we keep fighting in unison. We mostly try to incapacitate our enemies in the painless possible way which is much more difficult than using our full range of powers.
I can see that Sam and Luminous have even more problems than we do to control the strength of their united powers. The fire is much more difficult to control, and they struggle to subdue the full strength of their combined firepower. They are more tired than they were during the training, probably because they can't use their full power and have to be careful not to kill or permanently damage the fragile humans they are fighting.
That is actually our problem and the reason we don't immediately win. We are trying so hard to pull our punches that it makes us look weaker than we are. In contrast, humans don't care if they kill or maim us, they just want victory. They want to kill us off and would probably use parts of our bodies as trophies if they managed to kill us.
While disarming the four humans that surrounded me and Flyjoy, I consider if we are actually right. Are we doing the right thing by not killing them? We are at a disadvantage because of it. I don't want to kill anyone, but I also don't want any of my friends to die. We are fighting in such a compassionate manner that I think it's possible for those stupid humans to actually kill some of us if we aren't careful or if we are too compassionate.
However, our struggles are nothing compared to what Peace is going through. Even though no weapon or hand ever reach him, pain is obvious on his face. It takes me a while to realize that it isn't the physical pain that troubles him but an emotional one. He feels bad for having to fight other living beings.
It is such a challenge for him, the creature of pure light to fight, to go against any living thing, but he still does it, for us, for our future. His fighting style is very unusual since he never hurts anyone, he just stops them in their track. Some of them are overwhelmed with so much love that they just stop and start weeping for all the bad things they did. Others are stopped but not converted. No matter what Peace does there are too many of them for him to either stop or convert, so we have to fight on.
The only ones who seem to barely hold back are Dan and Gary. They are careful not to kill anyone but other than that they use little self-control since they are having so much fun. It is their chance to blow off some steam and to finally use the full extent of their powers.
At first, they only fight using their power to turn themselves into stone, but as the battle progresses they decide to try out Gary's monstrous form. Dan calls it Garynator and is thrilled by the sheer size of his friend's new form, not to mention the level of scariness.
"Dude, you look AWESOME!" is the first thing he says when he sees Gary's monstrous form. We all know he isn't as dangerous as he looks, but the angry humans we are facing don't know that and are terrified. The one closest to the happy pair screams and runs away while the others make some futile attempts to bring the enormous monster down. They fail, of course, but their uncoordinated attempts, give Gary and Dan much more joy than expected. Well, honestly I didn't expect ANY joy in that, but I try to tell myself that we are all different and that it is just their way to deal with the pressure of the battle.
During the battle, I can constantly hear their exhilarated voices encouraging one another and giving pieces of advice on how to defeat a particular enemy, not because it is difficult to defeat them, but because it's more fun in to do it in that particular way.
After a few hours, we are still fighting since even the incapacitated humans recover and everything starts over again. It is a never-ending cycle. Suddenly, we hear a small voice above our heads.
"That is enough! You both proved your points, now it is time to stop!" says a small figure floating in the air. It takes us some time to realize it is Pete. Strangely enough, the moment he says that we all stop and stare at him.
