Chapter fifty

The journey had started quite early because the traffic might increase if they would leave later. They had to cover a distance of more than five kilometres and reach Bijasni Mata Temple after all. They were travelling with the driver, Ayush, his son and Viraj's best friend Vijay, Ayush's wife Sameera, Aabha, Yuvraj, Tara and of course, Viraj and Mahamaya.

They had chosen a ten seater minibus for this trip. Tara and Yuvraj were in the back, playing with one another. Yuvraj finally felt like he had someone after Tara entered the household and that was why, everyone thought, Tara was adopted, to give company to the to be boss' brother so it was easier to adopt her. In the entire journey, the vehicle had stopped once as they had eaten breakfast in a nearby local restaurant.

The entire journey, Viraj and Mahamaya kept talking and Aabha, feeling lonely, was talking to Vijay instead. It was like everybody was in pairs. For the most part, Aabha, Ayush and Sameera slept because they were old and a little tired so Vijay was left alone as he pouted. He thought that he was the only lonely one in the entire bus and he should just get married soon. Mahamaya had dozed off because she was tired while Viraj supported her head on his shoulder and made sure she was comfortable. Ayush felt like Viraj was being a bit over caring and shouldn't spoil his wife so much but he was nobody to interfere or advice on the matters of a husband and a wife.

After six long hours, they had finally reached. Everyone had gotten down after the bus had stopped and washed their faces in local small restaurants, drinking water and tea to wake themselves up for the journey ahead. Then, they proceeded to enter the temple complex.

They had first given money to the poor and then bought two pooja ki thali (a plate with things to be given to the deity), one for Viraj and Mahamaya and the other for Aayush and Sameera. Of course, their immediate relatives got automatically included in them too. Then, they bought some more sweet for Yuvraj and Tara because they both loved the sweets. They were going to offer it to Goddess and get it back again.

Viraj and Mahamaya went forward with their plate, their heads bowed. Behind them, Aabha had carried a plate with wet vermillion letters on it as it read Vishnuyashas and Vijay carried another with wet vermillion that read Sumati. It was so that the new names could get blessings from the Goddess and the married couple could start their new life with new names.

The Pandit Ji (priest) took the plate from Mahamaya's hands, kept the flowers and garland from the plate for the Goddess and gave back all the sweet offerings to them. He saw the plates with the vermillion and his eyes widened. He looked at the couple again, before looking back at the plates. He kept the plates at her feet to get blessings from her but a flower from her garland fell, signalling that she approved of the names and the names were good. Everyone felt happy but the Pandit Ji (priest) almost tumbled down as Ayush helped him and Vijay went to call someone for help.

The Pandit Ji (priest) was carried away as nobody understood what was happening. Maybe something had shocked the man but he was young and looked healthy. Mahamaya went behind them to see how he was being taken care of or if he needed any medical help but he was okay. As soon as Mahamaya came before him, he joined his hands and started mumbling something.

She was surprised but being near him only seemed to make his situation worse. So, she moved away, worrying that her presence will cause more problems. What had happened? Confused, they prayed to mother Bijasni to make things better and hoping that this was not an ill omen of an upcoming storm in their lives.

Bijasan Mata is also known by the names of Yogamaya and Vindhyavasini Mata. When Sri Krishna was born, his life was under threat because of his uncle Kamsa. Kamsa wanted to kill his sister Devki's and her husband Vasudev's every kid because there was a prophecy that their eighth child would kill Kamsa. He wanted to prove the prophecy wrong.

When Sri Krishna was born, to save him, Vasudev took him to Vasudev's (Sri Krishna's father) friend Nanadakumar and Nandakumar gave his daughter who was also born on the same night to Vasudev. Vasudev had thus brought a daughter home and when Kamsa had returned, he had killed the daughter. The daughter was none other than Goddess Yogamaya whose life was sacrificed so that Sri Krishna could live. She then took rebirth as Devki and Vasudev's daughter Subhadra, who later went on to become Arjuna's wife and Abhimanyu's mother. She was the ancestral Goddess of both Mahamaya and Viraj and thus, they had come to seek her blessings before the other deities.

After the whole worshipping incident, everyone was stressed. So, they sat outside on the open garden while Yuvraj and Tara played amongst themselves. They had spread newspapers below them and unpacked the food they had brought, which were chapatis (flat bread) with peanut chutney and pickles so they hoped to eat them as lunch in the temple premises because it was peaceful there.

Mahamaya called Tara and Yuvraj as Aabha helped feed Yuvraj while Mahamaya sat Tara in her lap and spoke to her in baby voice, feeding her. Viraj felt like he was falling more and more for this woman in front of him. When she felt his gaze on her, she looked at him and noticed how he was looking at her. She blushed and that blush was enough to give every male human who saw her a heart attack. Everybody kept gazing at her but the beautiful woman's eyes were only on her husband.

Tara whined, "Maayi, food."

Mahamaya nodded, embarrassed and fed her as Vijay coughed to ward off the awkwardness. Viraj laughed when he noticed all this. Finally, after they were done, they left for the bus and booked a hotel for the day because they had even a longer journey tomorrow, of around seven hours excluding the breaks...
