Chapter Ten

Once Jace had woken up from another nightmare, he was panting and sweating once again. Jace had another dream about the New Eden psychiatric hospital where Jace had also heard children screaming and crying and begging for help. The nurses and doctors were electrocuting the children, including starving them to death, and taking the wrong medications.

The medications were making them sick and giving them symptoms. Jace was experiencing symptoms just like these children were experiencing while being sick and tortured. Jace had gone to the library to find a book. He thinks maybe he will have a better chance to find out the about the New Eden psychiatric hospital and he asked the librarian where he could find the book about the New Eden hospital.

After Jace had followed the librarian to help him find the book, the librarian went up to one of the shelves and she took out the book and handed it over to Jace. Jace thanked the librarian as he grabbed the book from her. Once the librarian walked past Jace, Jace sighed and he looked at the front of the book and the title of the book was called New Eden: The Secret Behind Its Closed Doors.

After Jace opened the book, he sat on the floor and he started reading the book. Jace found out that this hospital had been open since the late 1800s. He also discovered that so many patients and young children had died from being tortured by their doctors. Jace (while he was sitting on the floor) had to think for a second. Until he decided to take the book home with him.

At home Jace continues to read the book and he finds out that the author wrote the book is another victim of the abuse and found their way to escape from the hospital as well. When Jace continued to read the book, he couldn't believe what he had read.

Until the next evening, Jace and Alex were treating a young adult man in his late twenties, named Victor Smithson who has a severe case of cystic fibrosis, the patient was having trouble breathing. Jace had put an oxygen mask on him and Jace told the patient that it would help him breathe better.

"Okay Victor, have you had any contact with another person who also has CF?" wondered Jace.

Victor shook his head yes. Jace was in a bit of shock when Victor told Jace that he had kissed his girlfriend who also has cystic fibrosis. His mother was in the ambulance with him.

"Victor. What? You know not to do that!" says Mrs. Smithson.

Victor kept on trying to catch his breath and Jace sighed. Victor removed his mask and was trying to talk.

"I'm sorry mom, but you know how much I just love Montana. She's my everything! I know I am not supposed to, but I may not reach my thirtieth birthday, and I may never get a chance to kiss a girl like ever in my lifetime. I'd just wanted to try just this once, mom," says Victor.

Jace nods his head and Mrs. Smithson sighs. Victor puts his mask back on and he continues to catch his breath. Mrs. Smithson told Jace that he should tell her son that what he did was a mistake and he shouldn't do it again. Mrs. Smithson was concerned for her son. Jace takes a deep breath and he says to Victor telling him that his mother was right. Jace explained to Victor that him kissing his girlfriend could lead to her getting sicker. Victor looked at Jace, while he was still breathing into his mask and Jace softly smiled at Victor.

Jace wasn't on call this time. Instead he's at the station filling out paperwork. Like all medical personnel, Jace leads a normal life when they are not on call and off duty.

During their time on duty, paramedics may be in charge of procuring supplies, replenishing the ambulance, and completing out documentation related to the incidents they handled. Alex was helping Jace with the paperwork along with Jace.

"I heard you and Jane broke up," says Alex.

"What?" says Jace.

"Is it true? You and Jane broke up," says Alex, wondering.

Jace takes a deep breath and says, "yeah. She cheated on me," says Jace.

"Oh. Well. How about you and I would like to go to a party or something? Kate is having her twenty fourth birthday celebration at Logan's, you should go, and come with me," says Alex.

"I don't know about that," says Jace.

"Come on. It will be fun. Besides, you might meet someone new and get yourself a new girlfriend," says Alex.

Jace takes another deep breath and he says, "Alex, I'd appreciate the enthusiasm, but I have so much to do in my life and I don't have time to go to a party," explained Jace. Alex nods his head and he says, "okay." Jace continues to look over the paperwork.

Alex just looked concerned for his partner and he went back to looking over paperwork as well.

Jace after another night of having a nightmare, he continued to read the book of the hospital. Jace also discovered that nurses and doctors would never let these children leave the sight of the hospital and be trapped in the hospital for a year before they can be back to their families.

But none of them patients made it out alive except Jace thinks Aleix did somehow escape the horror, including the author who wrote the book. Jace then decided to go to the police station and talk to one of the detectives named Ava Knox, who investigates homicides.

"Hi excuse me, are you detective Knox?" wondered Jace, as he walked into the police station.

"Yes. I'm Detective Knox. Can I help you with something?" says Detective Knox.

"Um. My name is Jace Parker. I'm a paramedic in training working at The John Hopkins Hospital, and I was meaning to talk to you about something. I think that I'm being haunted by this girl who was a victim of an abuse that could lead to a murder investigation," says Jace.

"What?" says Detective Knox in confusion.

"I'm sorry. Um, I had found one of the books from the library that talks about this psych ward where young children are being killed in the psych ward. I had a patient named Aleix Boysfti who died from cardiac arrest and I think it's due to the complications that she suffered from after escaping from the psychiatric hospital," says Jace.

"And you think that this patient of yours is haunting you and giving you signs that this hospital still exists?" wondering Detective Knox.

Jace takes a deep breath and sighs. "Yes. Look I know this sounds really weird and really stupid, but I think my patient is telling me that she wants me to stop this kind of thing before things just get out of hand for other patients," says Jace.

Detective Knox nods her head and says, "Okay. I see that the book you are carrying is what you're talking about," says Detective Knox.

Yes," answered Jace, handing the book over to Detective Knox. Detective Knox grabs the book and she opens it.

"Let's go to my office," says Detective Knox, before turning around and walking straight to her office.

After Jace and Detective Knox walked into her office, Jace sat down in front of Detective Knox's desk as Detective Knox sat behind their desk. "Detective Knox, I'm sorry for coming on such short notice, but I'd like to think that this hospital is still open.

Maybe nobody (except the parents of the children) know where this hospital is and the parents may not know that their children are being tortured and killed in that hospital. If the hospital doesn't get shut down, then more children are gonna get sent there, and more children will be killed," says Jace.

"So this hospital has been open since the late 1800's?" wondered Detective Knox.

"That's what it said in the book," says Jace. "The hospital was first opened in the late 1800's. I could not find the exact year. But, the kids there are electrocuted, given the wrong medications and other horrible medical treatments. But children die there from complications like dehydration and other illnesses," says Jace, once more.

Detective Knox sighed. "Mr. Parker, this must be some sort of joke. I mean asylum seekers think these things actually exist and it's just a made up fairytale," says Detective Knox.

"Detective Knox, I'm telling you this hospital does exist. That hospital is full of torture and bad behavior, and I'm telling you, the girl who is haunting me is giving me signs that they're more children being abused and killed," says Jace.

Detective Knox takes a deep breath and she looks at the book once again. She thinks for a second. "Okay. What else do you know about this place? I'll try my best to investigate this place, if it actually exists," says Detective Knox.

"Thank you," answered Jace, sighing. Detective Knox sighs and she nods her head.
