Prologue - Centuries
If there was one thing the Time War was it was endless. And that was for a race of creatures that time seemed to not affect. The infinite battle for no more than pride and the chance to tell the universe they had beaten the latter. The driving force behind it was Lord President Rassilon of the High Council of Gallifrey. He was a good man, once, but the ideas of self-glorification had him focussed on the victory of war. It was between the Daleks, a vicious race of mutants sealed inside armoury for their own safety, and the Time Lords, a species that guarded the very essence of the universe. But such responsibilities of course come with ideas of superiority, and God knows, they thought they were superior, to every living thing. Among these Time Lords was a warrior and a monster, you decide which one was which.
Koschei was... different to any other the Gallifreyans had seen, with a vengefulness coursing through his veins as soon as he was birthed. And a great, maybe extreme in some cases, sense to put things right. During the ceremony where young Gallifreyans become Time Lords, he changed, suddenly. Driven mad by the sheer energy of the Time Vortex. But instead of helping him, letting him be as he wanted to, they decided he was too insane to make his own choices. So made him into a weapon, a pawn in their fight against the Daleks. The only thing that kept him fighting was his urge to make things right, and he didn't care how many he slaughtered to get there.
The other, Theta Sigma, a figurehead in the Gallifreyan Council since his youth and wanted to follow his parents' heritage of controlling, not fighting. But he always wanted to see the stars, well what was left of them after the first Dalek invasion. And he was very best friends with Koschei despite their ever-increasingly parting futures.
The two men never understood the greed and envy of the Council, but they were to learn...
