Chapter 2 - Young Volcanoes
It was their favourite spot in the whole of the Citadel. From one grassy spot on the mountainside you could see the Medusa Cascade, the belt of Kasterbourus and many other different constellations of tiny, glittering stars.
"And how are you going to get up there then?"
"The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I can't let that happen no more".
"So, what?"
"I was thinking stealing a TARDIS and running away?"
"That's deserting! One of the highest crimes of a soldier".
"So", he lilted, suddenly spying a battle TARDIS parked just by the lake below them. "Come with me Koschei".
He did think about it, all the adventures they could have together, all the people they could save. But then the ideals of reality clicked back in. "I-I... can't. I'm sorry".
"We could be free of Gallifrey. Free of the Time War. We could travel the galaxy together. Why look at the stars down here, when we could be up there looking at them?"
"I just have too much here. Too many people counting on me".
"And you think that I don't? You're a brilliant fighter, Koschei", he lulled, starting to head down the mountain. "But someday you need to open your eyes to something more than war".
He ran quickly downhill until he reached his prize - his TARDIS. It looked like all the others, just an average Type 42 TARDIS, with its silvery exterior and interior. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Koschei sitting in the same spot but with his head in his hands. Was he really doing this - stealing a TARDIS and running away? Yes, it seemed so. He had never flew one before, but it seemed today was a day of doing new things. And it turned out that this time he would be doing it alone.
