Prologue
My first Dishonored Fanfiction! I mean, first non-crossover Dishonored Fanfiction. But there will also be another which doesn't follow the games, and is based before them called Heretic, I hope that you will all check it out when it comes out!
A boy who was about four ran for his dear life. Men with metal masks chased him, they wanted him. They wanted to "mark" him, whatever that meant. He didn't know, but he didn't care either. He just knew he didn't like the look of these men, and didn't want anything they offered. Not even if it was a family.
"Grab him!" One of the men yelled at the spectators around them. At their words, people then immediately started grabbing for the boy. Probably hoping to get some sort of reward for his capture, caring more about themselves over some random street urchin. He evaded every attempt the people made to grab him. Twisting and turning and biting and clawing at everything and everyone who came close to him. Anything that could keep him away from the masked men he did.
He was able to eventually loose them as he turned into an abandoned area of the Rudshore Financial District and into an area that seemed abandoned, with collapsed apartments and an old Pub. He crawled into a small opening of one of the apartments and curled into himself, his black hair ragged, his pale skin cut and bruised from all the times he hit into things or people.
The masked men arrived and stopped as they saw the area. "Spread out, he couldn't have gone far!" The one in the lead yelled as they fanned out. The boy's breathing hitched, he clutched his knees closer to his chest as he watched the men with wide, brown eyes. He ordered himself to remain perfectly still, and waited. The men searched everywhere, searching and searching until the sunset.
"Alright, we'll be back tomorrow, he can't go far." The leader said as he gazed at the structures around them. The others regrouped, glared at the area one last time before leaving the premises. The boy was able to finally breath again after a few minutes, uncurling and crawling out from the small hole he was just in.
His body shook, not from the cold of night, that he got used to and even enjoyed, but the lingering fear that stuck with him. I need to find a place to sleep, a place hidden where I can sleep in peace! He thought as he silently crept towards an abandoned place called The Hound Pits Pub, this one looking mostly intact.
He crawled inside and took a room at the very top of the place, the attic room. He crawled into the bed, not caring about the stains, rat poop, and holes, and closed his eyes.

It felt like only seconds until he woke again, but the world felt... wrong somehow. The boy didn't know why, but he assumed that it was because he was finally alone after so long in an orphanage or a factory. Or perhaps it was because he had The Overseers on his tail for some strange reason. Whatever the case may be, he didn't like the feeling that overcame him. He had the sudden urge to leave.
He jumped up and ran towards the door, throwing it open only to reveal the that world around him wasn't exactly what he remembered. The landscape was dark, gray, and everything looked as though the world had been blown to pieces. Like someone placed a ton of whale oil all over the world and shot at it. Or like a hurricane blew the world to pieces, but time had stopped, keeping everything suspended in place.
The boy took a few timid steps forward, his body shaking badly as he glanced around the world.
"Hell-hello?" He called out.
"Young Axton, I've waited a long time to meet you." A voice called out from the void. A man, or perhaps he could even be considered a boy, appeared before him. He wore a gray jacket, blue jeans and black leather boots. He had dark brown hair and eyes that resembled two bottomless, black abysses that bore deep into the boy's soul. "A poor lost soul searching for familiar faces among the endless sea of humanity. Imagining a life with each couple you see swimming before your eyes. A perfect family, filled with love and happiness. But by the end of the day, you return to your home, remembering you where just an orphan with no one to love you, trying to survive in the cold harsh world that is your reality. Depending on you, today can be the last day you would be a lonely orphan. Today will be marked as the day your life changed forever."
Axton stared at the being before him, gulping nervously at his words. "What do you... what do you mean?" He just gave the boy a cold smile as he continued.
"I have drawn you into the Void, for what you do from this point could change the course of history forever. You might think that you are a nobody, but I assure you that, that is very far from the truth. You have already avoided those who have devoted their entire life to loathing me, and that in itself was enough to intrigue me. I am The Outsider, and this is my mark."
An itching, burning sensation appeared on the back of his hand. Axton gritted his teeth as the mark seemed to burn from the inside to out. When it was over, the mark remained black, like it was permanently charred into his skin.
"There are forces in and out of the world that your kind call magic, and now these forces will bend to your very will. Much like those who've been marked before you. This power is my gift to you. May it serve you in all your future endeavors. Now, come find me."
The Outsider disappeared, and the boy just stood, rooted in place for a few minutes. Then he shook himself and stared down at his hand. It felt like his marked arm was slightly colder than his right, the pinpricks of magic coursing through his veins. His timidness lessened slightly, bravery taking root within his heart which caused him to be able to take his first few steps. He started walking further and further until he came across his first obstacle, a ledge, way higher than he could ever jump on his own. The boy frowned, glanced down at his marked hand again and lifted it to his face. He let instinct take over, griping his hand into a fist. He poured his magic into his fist and the mark started to glow a pale blue, like the clear skies in the mornings. He then released, and in the blink of an eye he was standing on the ledge. He smiled slightly and started to run through the Void. Blinking his way through obstacles until he made it to an area that looked like a shrine. The boy reached over and grasped the object upon it. It was slightly oval shaped, with the very same mark on his hand.
The Outsider appeared again, arms crossed and an expression devoided of all emotion and tone in it's monotone as he spoke to the boy. "I've seen the futures that will unfold before you. A life that can branch out in a million different possibilities, each more interesting than the last. You can seek out ancient runes baring my Mark in the lonely paces of your world. At the shines raised in my name. They shall help you attune your new powers, and perhaps even help you discover new ones. Listen closely at its whispers, its song it sings to the mark upon your hand. Listen, hear what it's trying to tell you."
The boy does, the strange sound emanating from the carved object seemed to be trying to tell him something. He places his marked hand over the rune until his mark and the mark on the rune aligned. The rune glowed brightly, visions of him activating a new power as the void whispered softly in his ear as his vision tinted in a blueish-grey, revealing people through walls as well as objects, runes and bonecharms. He felt a rush of power and the rune crumbled to dust in his hand.
"What you do with the gift I have given you falls upon you, like the other who came before, and yet to come. It's near the time that I am to return you to your world. But I wanted to give you one final gift. A piece of your long sought for family. A date, but not just any old date, this is the date of your birth. The 19th day of the Month of Darkness, 1818. Now I bid you farewell, Axton. Know I'll be watching what you do from this point forward with great interest."
And with that said, the world surrounding them faded until the last thing Axton could see was the black eyes of the Outsider before waking up in cold sweat.
~☆~
He clutched his heart and tried to steady his breathing, he moved his left hand to wipe his forehead when something caught his eyes. The same black mark from his dream was etched upon the back of his hand. A chill ran throughout his body as he glanced around the room. It looked to still be night time outside, which was odd, Axton thought that he was in the Void for much longer than that.
He felt someone grab his shoulder, jolting him out of his thoughts and causing his mind to go into a panic. He screamed and thrashed, not thinking about his powers anymore.
"Whoa there boy, don't worry, your alright." the man's gruff voice soothed. Axton stopped struggling, realizing that this man didn't have the same muffled voice as the Overseers. He turned to see a man who looked old enough to be the boy's father. He wore a long, red coat with black leather gloves. His pants where also black and his boots where as brown as the belts he wore, one from his left shoulder to under his right rib cage, and another at his waist. He also had on a gray, buttoned up undershirt. He had short brown hair, gray/blue eyes, and a few scars on the left side of his face.
"Who are you?" The boy asked, his body relaxing as he eyed the new man.
"My name is Daud." He replied before eyeing the boy's marked hand. "It seems a mutual friend of ours had gained an interest. Intriguing..."
Daud eyed Axton, as if trying to find what it was the Outsider had seen within him. He then smiled softly, as if attempting to be warm, but it was so forced that it looked more like a cold, slightly psychotic look instead. "What do you think of joining me? My Whalers and I will treat you like family. What do you say?" He extended his hand to the young boy, the failed attempt at a smile abandoned as he looked more like a hero; as the lights of the rising sun seeped into the room, darkening his features and giving the illusion of a glowing silhouette.
Axton hesitated, he wondered if this is what the Outsider had meant. Is this what he meant by today being the last day he'd be a lonely orphan? Is this the path that will lead him to a family, and possibly his family? He wasn't sure, but he trusted his gut. So, he accepted the hand of the assassin.
In this story, Axton will have powers mixed between Mostly Corvo and Daud cause his is similar to both, and one of Emily's because they are related.
Axton's Powers:
Blink- Corvo/Daud: Move forward rapidly.
Bend Time- Corvo/Daud: Stop time for a short duration.
Void Gaze- Daud: see the location of Runes and Bone Charms within a certain radius, the Outsider's Mark on Axton's hand will glow if aiming to a Rune or Bone Charm
Pull- Daud: Pull can be used to lift inanimate objects and bodies, collect and pilfer items, living enemies are bound.
Possession- Corvo: Assume control of a host for a short time
Domino- Emily: Link human targets (up to 4) so they die or fall unconscious together.
(Each of Axton's powers that are similar to Corvo's are fully upgraded from Dishonored 2).
Then there are the typical Bonecharm Crafting, Reflexes, Shadow Kill, Blood Thirst, Strength, Agility and Vitality. Axton can also craft runes (the upgraded version of Bonecharm crafting) and in doing so, discovered a secret ability. You all gonna have to find out about that one later 😉.
