IV: The Preculiar Night

They found Mr. Lowe in Mathematics sleeping. A side of his head smashed into the wooden desk.

Sailor poked him awake.

"What do you want?" Me. Lowe asked swatting at Sailor like she was a fly.

"Where are you going to sleep tonight?" Yasmin asked pushing Sailor away so she would stop poking him.

Mr. Lowe took a breath and removed his face from his desk.

"I am pretty sure that there are blankets and other sleeping supplies in the inferimy. The school is closed so it would be only us here," Yasmin said.

They all got up and followed Yasmin who had a map of the school.

"How did you get a map?" Theodore asked.

"Ooh, ooh pick me. I know!" Sailor said jumping.

"Okay Sailor, where did Yasmin find this map?" Mr. Lowe asked not really caring what she was about to say.

"Okay, So while you guys were looking for Shelby. Mr. Lowe sent me on a mission to..." Sailor looked at Mr. Lowe. His eyes were glaring daggers and his head shook no quietly. Sailor swallowed and causally continued, "As I was saying, Mr. Lowe sent me on a mission and on my way back I found a piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up because I like seeing what people drop on the floor. And that piece of paper is what Yasmin is holding right now."

Yasmin gave her an annoyed expression, "I had to trade her an orange leave from outside for this trampled, dirty map."

"I still have it," Sailor pulled out an orange maple left from her pocket.

"Lukas, right?" Sailor asked.

"Yup, that's me,"

"Do you want to know why this orange left reminds me of you?"

"Why?"

"Because they both are orange," Sailor said messing with his already messy, curly hair.

"Stop!" He said throwing Sailor's hand off him. Lukas ran away and turned the corner.

"Should we go after him?" asked Theodore.

"I will," Sailor volunteers.

Hands grab out at her, "NO!" Sailor runs and barely makes it out of there.

Sailor runs into the nurses office and locks the door. Sailor's eyes dart to Lukas who is in the fetal position and crying. He looks up and eyes the door. The thumping has stopped.

Sailor slid down the door and sat down on the cold, tiled, floor.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

Lukas wiped his eyes with his fists, "It's fine."

"I won't do it again. If you don't want me to."

"It's fine," he repeated, "My mother used to do that. Now she," Lukas took a shaky breath, "she is not here."

"Is that why you are so exclusive, you don't want to lose anyone close to you again so you don't get close to anyone?" Sailor stated.

Lukas was silent.

"I'll take that as a yes. Here," Sailor pushed the maple leaf toward him, "you can keep it. I can get another one outside."

Lukas picked up the leave and put it in his pocket. A small smile spread upon his face.

Sailor opened the door and Lukas got up.

"You okay?" Theodore asked.

Lukas just nodded.

"Let's go to bed," Sailor said stretching out her arms above her, "I bet everyone is tired."

Everyone walked to the beds in the nurse's office. Thankfully, there was exactly five beds so no one had to sleep on the floor.
