Chapter 4: Okay, so that's the Gas Pedel. . .

Xandra and Tally had left early in the morning to get their hair dyed and their makeup done. Cat had packed her bag. Cat wasn't sentimental and she only owned a couple clothing items and a toothbrush, so this process was short. She stood on the pavement, her stare locked on the shimmering metal handle of Xandra's prized three-year Golden Auto Award winner, Big Sally. Big Sally's coat was pop pink and a herd of tiny silver horse decorated the hood.

It wasn't like Cat wanted to drive Big Sally. Big Sally's muffler was terrible and the seats were decorated with expensive and embarrassing cheeta-print covers. But Big Sally was the only car there. Xandra and Tally had taken Tally's Toyota and Xandra was renting out the Chevy to Mr. Angles.

This was her only option. Cat opened the driver's side door and sat down in the seat. She put her hands on the zebra-print steering wheel. Cat had never actually driven a car. Xandra had refused to take her to driver's training. Cat looked downward and saw an array of pedels. She pressed one and nothing happened. She tried another and still, nothing happened.

Oh, God, I'm so stupid. . . luckily, Xandra had left the car keys in the key slot, all Cat had to do was turn the key. The engine growled and the radio blared "California Girls". Cat felt her ears drums burn at the volume of the teen pop song. She reached forward and clicked off the radio.

Xandra pressed her foot down on a thin, arched pedal. The car lurched forward and Cat slammed her foot down on a square pedel. The car stopped abruptly, the force knocking Cat forward. Okay, so that's the gas pedal. . .Cat thought to herself as she switched into reverse. She ever so gently backed out onto the drive. She remembered driving a snowmobile when she was younger, she pulled Tally across the snow. That night she had to back the snowmobile into the garage. Practicing this skill, Cat adjusted her car into a straighter form. She took one last look at the maroon house before thinking.

I'm not going to miss you. . .
