"What do you know about the two murders last night?" I repeated.

"I don't know what you're talking about." She replied stubbornly.

Deep breaths, Carter. Deep breaths.

"A portal has been recorded to have been used at the time of the murders and it's identified as your magic." I threw the evidence files on the coffee table, in front.

"The facts are all there, sweetheart."

"I never liked you Elementals." She muttered under her breath.

Rude.

I stood up. This interrogation was pointless and getting me no where. I'm done being nice.

"Now fucking listen, Evangeline." I said, raising my hand slowly. "I will not take this shit from you or from anybody else today. So just tell me what you were doing there."

She glanced at me and crossed one leg over the other.

"You seem to forget that I can kill you with the flick of my wrist without even flinching." She hissed, hatred lacing each vowel.

"You seem to forget what'll happen if you do kill me." I responded, holding my hand up.

"Casper Hartledge. I'm not saying anymore and if you know what's good for you, Carter, you won't involve me into this."

I put my hand down.

"Thank you for you're cooperation." I said, in a monotone voice walking out of the room and towards the door. "Oh, and the tea."

But she slammed the door in my face before I could glance back at her.

I was so glad I put dirt in her tea!

Two Vampires were found dead earlier this morning and me being the lucky person I am, was chosen to sort this investigation out.

The Vampire division were hot on our tails threatening all other divisions and warning us all, that once they find out who did it, would be in big trouble.

I had already figured out that the murderer was desperate to kill the two Vampires off, otherwise they would've waited until morning when Vampires' powers are reduced to Proletarian.

This also tells me that it was most likely to be spontaneous and not planned. I checked all magic boundaries and the only one that caught my eye was the portal, which lead me to Evangeline Prontes.

And now Casper Hartledge is on my list.

I took my phone out of my pocket and tried to turn it on. But the screen stayed blank. I pressed it again, but it continued to stay blank.

I groaned, restraining from pulling out my own hair. Today is not my day.

I found myself walking towards the nearest Pelagus, a meeting place for Elementals. They're dotted around the city and easy enough to find, if you know where to look.

I threw my coat onto one of the hooks, by the door of the Pelagus.

"Hey, Kai!" He looked up at me and waved his hand in acknowledgement.

"Can you do a full research and background check on Casper Hartledge. I want to know all the dirt on him, from his division to his first words."

"I'll get right on it." Kai said, getting ready to turn back to his original route.

"Oh, and somethings wrong with my phone. I can't seem to get it to work."

"I thought you passed Proletarian studies with flying colours?" I shrugged.

"Well go ask Mikayla, she's probably better than I am." He said, before walking off.

I nodded and proceeded to walk to the air wing of the building. The section was made completely obvious as the floor went from laminated wooden to tiles covered in white swirls.

Before entering the air wing I looked to the left at the fire wing. I had been in all wings apart from that one and I didn't exactly want to go into that wing.

The fire wing is decorated in black and red from what I can see but who knows what's deep inside their wing.

All wings are accessible to all Elementals, however, there are unspoken rules, how no one except the fire Elementals set foot in the fire wing and how you can't wonder into a random lab or office unless it is your own Elemental wing.

I didn't have to look at the name plaques on each door, for I had been to Mikayla so many times that I had memorised the route like it was my own.

I knocked on the door twice, paused and then twice again.

"Come in." I hear a feminine voice say.

I open the door, to reveal a messy looking study and behind the desk, stacked with paper, books and flasks was the one and only, Mikayla Santra.

Every permanent resident at the Pelagus gets their own study and connected doors leading to their own bedroom and bathroom. Travelling Elementals, who just need a place to stay for a night or two are located near the entrance of each wing.

Mikayla looks up and smiles at me.

"What is it this time, Car?"

"My phone."

"Again?! This is the third time this week."

"It won't start."

"Pass it here then."

I did as instructed and handed her my phone. As soon as it was in her hands, Mikayla started taking it a part and examining it.

"The wires are all blocked with mud and dirt!"

"Must've been the fight I was in a couple of days ago." I said.

Mikayla glared at me.

"Learn to look after your things, Car, I'm not doing this again for you."

She lifted her hands and a gust of wind immediately filled the room.

She blew away all of the dirt and earth and then wired my phone up again.

Finally she connected all the parts she previously took apart.

Mikayla then handed me my phone. I examined it. Looked as good as new.

I pressed the home button and it came on, showing me a missed call and text message from Reece.

"Thanks, Mikayla." I said, walking out her room and shutting the door.

I read the message.

"Call me back, I need a favour."

I sighed and pressed the call button.

"What is it?"

"Hey, you know how your the best friend in the entire world..."

"What do you want or what have you done?"

"Well, I got you another date with Nadia."

"Why? It was so awkward the first time."

Why was I even friends with him?

"Letti wanted to go out, but didn't want to leave Nadia alone, so I said that you would take her out." Reece said, quickly, possibly in hope that I didn't hear him.

"So I'm basically doing this so you can go on your little date with Letti." I said.

"Thank you so much, Car, I knew I could count on you."

"Wait, I didn't agree t-"

"I'll send you the address and details." He quickly said before hanging up on me.

I opened the door to my bedroom and threw my phone on my bed.

I guess I have a second date with Nadia and I have Reece to thank for that.
