Chapter 9
Luis Gomez- Atlanta, Georgia
1:00 am EST
Luis was stirred awake by something in the wind that he couldn't explain. He turned in a different direction and squeezed his eyes shut while he pursed his lips in annoyance, and he tried but failed to ignore the feeling that was washing over him.
He bit back a small groan and turned in the other direction, facing his sister, and he sighed and opened his eyes to see that she was still asleep, oblivious about the feeling that was in the air, much to his annoyance and jealousy.
Oh Gods let me sleep, he silently prayed and closed his eyes while he turned to face the other way, away from his sister. Please, because I can not leave my siblings by themselves.
Again, the feeling appeared out of nowhere, and unfortunately, Luis could not ignore it any longer and opened his eyes with an annoyed sigh. He slowly blinked and furrowed his brows while he waited for something, anything to happen.
What the hell? he silently asked and pursed his lips in annoyance. What the hell is going on? What is this strange feeling that I am feeling, and why won't it go away and leave me the hell alone?
He closed his eyes and groaned before he turned in the other direction.
Please, make it stop, he silently begged and bit back another groan of annoyance when he tossed and turned around without waking his sister. Please. I don't know what this feeling is, but I do not like it at all. I do not want to leave or answer it.
Unfortunately, that feeling didn't go away, and it only grew harder and harder for him to ignore with each passing second.
Fine, he grumbled before he opened his eyes and pursed his lips in disgust. He sat up in bed and moved a hand through his hair and across his face, making sure that he didn't wake up his sister while he sighed and shook his head. I guess I will answer this stupid feeling.
He groaned before he stood and made his way to the door, not caring that he didn't have a shirt on and knowing that his shoes were by the front door where they belonged.
Maybe I can go back to bed after I finish this... he thought with pursed lips. And before Mama comes home.
Even though I don't think she is coming home tonight...
He opened his bedroom door and paused before he cocked his head toward his bed, making sure that his sister was still asleep before he walked through the door and entered the hallway, closing his bedroom door behind him.
Hopefully, this doesn't hurt my family, he thought and pursed his lips in annoyance while he tucked his head closer to his chest. He hesitated and looked down the small hallway where his other siblings slept before he made his way to the living room, his heart pounding hard and fast in his chest.
But maybe I could meet my real blood family...
His heart ached when that thought crossed his mind, and he shook his head and pursed his lips further in annoyance.
Luis knew that he was adopted by this woman he called his mother and had found out when he was younger after his parents had an argument about him and what he meant for the family.
His father had wanted to be his father until Luis was about the age of ten, but for some reason, that all changed when the young boy reached ten-years-old, and he didn't want to deal with Luis ever again, even though Luis had done nothing wrong.
When his mother chose Luis over his father, his father had left, leaving a gaping place in the whole family dynamic that Luis filled at such a young age, becoming the main stable thing that his family ever knew.
He was more stable than even his mother...
"That is why I don't want to leave," he muttered and shook his head with a small sigh, his voice barely above a whisper and talking to thin air, "even though I know that I can't ignore this feeling for as much as I have in the past."
He stopped by the front door and placed his shoes on his feet. He looked toward his bedroom before he took a deep breath and released it with a small, whoosh, and unlocked the front door and opened it, hating the small creaking noise that emitted from it, breaking the sound of silence.
Oh, Gods, he silently cringed and paused, listening to the sound of everything, making sure that his siblings were still asleep and unaware of what was happening.
He sighed and shook his head before he opened the front door and stepped outside, locking it behind him.
Luis looked around and noticed a van parked in front of his house, and he bit his lip. He didn't say a word while he looked at the van, and someone opened the door and stepped out
And for some reason, Luis was not afraid of the person that was staring at him, and it felt as if Luis "knew" them, even though he knew that he had never had crossed paths with them at all.
The figure, a male, bowed and held out a phone that started to ring, and Luis looked at the phone before he looked at the figure, not moving from his spot on his front porch, staying silent.
The phone continued to ring, and the male lifted the phone a little more toward him.
Finally, Luis sighed and moved a hand through his hair before he shook his head and cleared his throat. "Are you the reason why I am feeling like this?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The male smiled a little and shrugged, not saying a word. He let the phone ring until the person on the other side of the line stopped the call before they called again.
Luis sighed and shook his head before he hesitated but walked over to the male. "Can you not talk?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Or are you having to wait until I answer the phone?"
Again, the male shrugged and didn't say a word.
"Hmph." Luis pressed his lips into a thin line, ignoring the phone. "¿Habla español? (Do you speak Spanish?)" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "¿Puedes responderme así? (Can you answer me like this?)"
The male frowned and looked confused, and Luis bit back a small sigh and shook his head while he moved a hand through his hair.
"So I just answer the phone?" he asked, switching back to English and raised an eyebrow in question higher, and the male nodded in confirmation.
Luis sighed some more and moved a hand through his hair before he shook his head and pursed his lips in annoyance. "Fine," he said, with a small grunt in his voice. "Hand me the phone," he said and held out his hand. "Please."
The male nodded and handed him the phone, offering him a tight smile. He still didn't say a word while he watched Luis look over the phone before he answered it.
"Hello?" Luis asked, hesitantly. "Who is this?"
"If this is Luis Gomez, press three," a robotic voice on the other side of the line said, not answering his question.
Luis frowned and narrowed his eyes while he cocked his head to the side, growing confused. "Why?" he asked.
"If this is Luis Gomez, press three," the voice said without saying anything else.
"Ay dios mío, (Oh my God,)" Luis muttered and rolled his eyes and scowled but did what he was told to do and pressed three. "¿Por qué? (Why?)"
"Please, hold."
Music started to play on the other end of the phone, and he looked at the person and scowled, raising his eyebrows in unison.
Really?
The male smiled apologetically and shrugged. He didn't say a word and patiently waited for the call to begin.
Luis bit back an annoyed sigh before he moved a hand across his face. He didn't say a word and shook his head, pursing his lips in annoyance.
Come on, he thought while he pursed his lips further in annoyance. Hurry up and let's get this over with. I don't have time for this.
Finally, after what felt like hours but was only a few minutes, the person on the other end of the line took him off of hold, clearing their throat.
"Luis Gomez?" the person, a male asked, his British accent evident over the phone, and Luis raised an eyebrow in question.
"This is him," Luis replied and furrowed his brows while he cocked his head to the side. "Who are you? What can I do for you? Why are there men outside of my h-"
The male bit back a small chuckle, interrupting Luis from talking, and Luis instantly closed his eyes and frowned. "All of your questions will be answered later, Mr. Gomez," he said. "However, the first thing that you have to do is get into the van with two of the men that are with you."
"Why?" Luis asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he bit back a frown. "Why do I need to get into the van? Are you trying to kidnap me?"
The male bit back another small chuckle, and Luis had a feeling that he shook his head. "No," he said. "I am not trying to kidnap you." He paused and cleared his throat while there was a squeaking sound while the man shifted in his seat. "It is advisable for you to go with them, especially if you want to learn how to control your powers."
Dios mío... (My God...)
Luis set his jaw and grabbed the phone tighter before he turned away from the man, earning a small snort from him. "How do you know that I have powers, Sir?" he asked, his voice barley above a whisper with a threatening tone in his voice. "Who told you?"
The British man chuckled, amused and leaned back in his seat. "No one, Mr. Gomez," he said softly before he cleared his throat and grew serious. "No one told me that you have powers. I knew before I contacted you."
Luis scowled and narrowed his eyes, grabbing the phone tighter. "How?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "How do you know?"
"I just do," the male said, vaguely, and Luis had a feeling that he shook his head before he cleared his throat while he shifted in his seat. "Unfortunately, I can not tell you how over the phone, but I can assure you that I know."
Luis pressed his lips into a thin line and narrowed his eyes. He didn't say a word and grabbed the phone tighter in his hands.
The man on the other side of the phone sighed, and he had a feeling that he moved his hand through his hair. "This will help you in more ways than one," he said softly. "You want to know about your parents, too, correct?"
His whole body grew still, and he shivered, pain flashing through his eyes. "How do you know about that?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "How do you know about my parents?"
The male chuckled sadly. "I know a lot of things, Mr. Gomez," he said softly, and Luis could pick up a twinge of guilt in his voice. "And that is why I want you to get into the car with these gentlemen. You will be safe and will be fine. You have my word."
Luis bit back a small sigh and moved a hand through his hair. Somehow, he could tell that this man was telling the truth, but that wasn't what he was worried about.
No, he was worried about something else, someone else, those sleeping in the apartment behind him.
"¿Mi familia? (My family?)" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "My family? What about them? What will happen to them?"
The man on the other side of the line sighed, and Luis had a feeling that he moved a hand across his face and through his hair. "If we helped out with them, will you come with us?" he asked. "No questions asked?"
Luis pressed his lips into a thin line, and he slowly weighed his options before he sighed and slowly nodded, relenting. "If you help out with my family, then I will come with the men that you sent with him," he said softly. He paused and cleared his throat, shifting on his feet. "Can you have someone stay here and watch over them and wait for my mom?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Please?"
The male on the other side of the line chuckled, and Luis had a feeling that he nodded in confirmation. "Yes," he said. "We will make sure that someone stays nearby and make sure that your family stays safe." He paused, and Luis had a feeling that he bowed his head. "You have my word."
Luis sighed and moved a hand through his hair and across his face before he slowly nodded. "Ok," he said before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Then I will go with you as long as my family stays safe."
