Chapter 5

Base- Somewhere out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean

8:45 pm UTC -10:00

He sighed when his phone rang again, and he pursed his lips in annoyance before he answered the phone, silently praying that it meant the twins were picked up and ready to go. "Hello?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "What is it? What can I do for you?"

He breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that the twins were safe and collected without much of a fight from either of them.

"Are you sure?" he asked, earning a small sharp noise from the person on the end of the other line. He rolled his eyes and scowled but didn't say a word before he cleared his throat and shifted in his seat.

"My apologies," he said before he moved a hand through his hair and shook his head. "I was nervous that someone would try to do something even if you don't think they would."

He rolled his eyes and scowled while he pressed his lips into a thin line when he heard what they said but didn't say a word.

Again, they said something else to the male, and he sighed and shook his head. "My apologies," he said coldly. "I am nervous about them." He paused and rolled his eyes while he scowled and bit back an annoyed sigh. "I am," he said coldly.

He paused and listened to what the person on the other end of the line said before he sighed and nodded. "Make sure that they stay safe. I have to go and see if the others are going to be collected soon. Remember to keep everything th-"

The male sighed before he shook his head and pursed his lips in annoyance. "Of course, I know that you know," he said and nodded before he cleared his throat and shifted in his seat. "Then I will see them when they get here."

And with that, he hung up the phone and placed the phone back into its holder. He moved a hand through his hair before he shook his head and leaned back in his seat. "Damn," he muttered under his breath. "Just damn."

He cleared his throat before he looked at his book and marked the names off, feeling slightly grateful that they had not put up a fight and were on their way to safety. "Two down; six to go. Hopefully they will be able to get Ms. Mary Kate soon."

The man sighed and moved a hand across his face before he shook his head, pursing his lips in annoyance. "Now, let's worry about someone else and hopefully get them to come with someone else without any issues."

And with that, he leaned back into his seat and waited for someone else to contact him about the rest of the members of the group as well as the twins arriving to base.

And hopefully nothing will happen to them when they arrive here soon...

Gabrielle White- Seattle, Washington

6:45 pm PST

Gabrielle walked out of her apartment and looked around outside of her house with pursed lips. Annoyance flashed through her eyes while she started to walk to the bus stop to go to her third job of the day.

Can't my life just change again, already? she silently wondered while she pursed her lips further in annoyance. I don't want to keep having to go to three different jobs as well as school and not get enough sleep.

She moved a hand through her hair and across her face before she shook her head, grateful that the late bus would be able to take her to work, even though she knew that she was going to have to find a ride back to her apartment after it.

However, it was a price that she was willing to pay to be emancipated from her parents and to live far away from them, making sure that they wouldn't be able to contact her in any way, shape, or form.

Gabrielle sighed and shook her head before she stopped at the bus stop sign where the bus would pick her up. She looked toward the left and right before she looked toward the left again, silently praying that the bus would come soon so that she could make it to work by one in the morning.

Gabrielle bit back a small groan of annoyance while she rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Why did he want me to work until 11:30 in the freaking evening?" she asked, and her voice was barely above a whisper. She pursed her lips in annoyance and dipped her head closer to her chest. "It's only a three hour shift, which isn't that long, and I don't like this at all."

I could call out of work, she thought while she pursed her lips further and tucked her head closer to her chest, but then it meant that I could lose hours to the next schedule.

She scoffed and rolled her eyes while she pressed her lips into a thin line. Annoyance filled her eyes because she knew that she wouldn't lose the little hours that she had for that job because her boss cared about her for some reason.

"And after that, I could go to bed and get just a bit of sleep before I have to go to school." She rolled her eyes and pursed her lips in annoyance while she folded her arms across her chest and tapped the side of her body.

Gabrielle shifted her bag from one shoulder to her other shoulder and moved a hand through her hair. She sighed and shook her head while she pushed her glasses up her nose and sat down on the ground near the bus stop and waited for the bus, praying that the bus wouldn't be late again.

"If it is, then I don't know how I am going to get to work on time," she muttered under her breath, knowing full well how unreliable the bus could be, which was why she left a little earlier than she needed to make sure she got there in time. "Or to call out because I am out of minutes and need more."

Gabrielle watched as a black SUV pulled in front of the bus stop, and she pressed her lips into a thin line while she watched it stop in front of her. Her whole body grew tense while she looked at it, and she couldn't help but shift to the side while she started to grow nervous and uncomfortable.

However, for some reason, she felt compelled to go to the van as if there was this pull connecting her to it, silently beckoning her to come toward the vehicle.

What the fuck was wrong with her..?

Finally, Gabrielle shook her head and bit back a small laugh. "Oh, no," she said and shook her head while she stood and slowly started to back away from the van. "I do not have time to be kidnapped."

But what if this wasn't a kidnapping? She silently wondered while she took another step back, and her heart skipped a beat before it started to pound harder and faster in her chest. What if this was something different, something exciting?

Both the front and back passenger doors to the van opened, but no one stepped, even though she could see a man sitting there, staring at her with a small smile on his face and his head bowed, almost in submission.

Her heart skipped a beat before it started to pound harder and faster in her chest. She grabbed her bag tighter, and she slowly took another step back, even though a part of her wanted to go toward the van and see where this new path would lead.

Could this be something that would help her find out who and what she was..?

She took a deep, shuddering breath before she released it with a smooth whoosh, trying but failing to relax because a part of her knew that they weren't going to hurt her no matter what, even though she had no idea why they wouldn't.

That didn't mean she did not know what to do...

A phone rang from inside the van, and she blinked before she blinked a second time, silently wondering who was calling and why no one was answering it, not even the man that was staring, unbothered by the ringing phone.

Why is no one answering the phone? she silently wondered while she narrowed her eyes and scowled. Shouldn't someone answer it before it goes to voicemail, or is it a spam caller?

Gabrielle grabbed her bag tighter in her hands while she looked at the van and the person closer, narrowing her eyes. She took a hesitant step toward the van while the phone continued to ring, and she bit the inside of her lip, anxiously waiting for the man to turn away from her and answer it.

Her heart skipped a beat before it continued to pound harder and faster in her chest while she looked at the van, praying that the man would answer the phone and see what the person wanted.

Come on, come on, she said, silently urging him to answer. Please, pick up the phone. Why aren't you answering it?

Finally, the man looked at someone she couldn't see before he nodded and grabbed the phone before he turned around and stepped out of the van, earning a small gasp from the young female while she took a step back, moving further away from the man and the mysterious SUV parked in front of her.

The man smiled and bowed, submitting a second time before he stood and held out the phone, silently indicating that the phone call was for her and not for the people that were in the van.

Shocked and surprised, Gabrielle hesitated before she pointed at herself while she furrowed her brows. "Me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, and the man nodded in confirmation. "Why is it for me?"

The male didn't say a word and shrugged. He held out the phone further while he looked at her, silently indicating that she should take the phone and answer it, even without telling her who it was for and why.

Gabrielle hesitated and took a step toward the man against her better judgment but was still far enough that she had a feeling that she would be able to get away from him without getting hurt. "Is it someone that will kill me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper while she looked at the phone and then at the male in front of her.

The man shook his head no, and his eyes seemed to grow softer as if he understood her worry. He held the phone out closer to her, silently indicating that she needed to take the phone call and to see why she was getting one from someone she didn't know and wasn't sure if she would like them or not.

Gabrielle bit her lip and hesitated before she walked over to him. Her heart pounded hard and fast in her chest, and she prayed that nothing bad would happen to her because she had no idea if she would actually be missed.

She stopped in front of the male that had the phone in his hands and looked at it before she looked at him. Her heart skipped a beat before it continued to sound like a runaway train while she looked at the man and held out her hand to take the still ringing phone.

The man smiled and handed the phone to her without much of a word between the pair. He bowed his head and waited for Gabrielle to answer it, silently urging her to go ahead and do it without much of a fight.

Gabrielle bit her lip and slowly nodded before she sent a silent prayer to whoever was out there and answered the phone call before she placed it to her ear.

And in a soft and barely audible voice, the young female whispered, "hello?" to the waiting person on the other end of the line.
