Chapter 13
Gracie Weiss- Los Angeles, California
11:30 pm PST
Gracie bit back an annoyed sigh and pushed open the dumpster's lid, where all of the other trash was held before the dumpster was taken away from here.
She bit back a small groan, feeling dirty and annoyed at her boss, especially since the ladie's restroom had been bad but not the worse it could have been, with working at a bar where there have been worse messes at the bar than that.
"So much for an early night," she grumbled under her breath while she tossed the trash bags into the stupid dumpster that was near the dock, silently praying that this load would be easy so that she would finally be done with today. "It's still early early, but it isn't as early as I thought it would be."
Gracie groaned in annoyance and tossed more of the trash into the dumpster, struggling with one of the bags. "Why do they have to make these so freaking heavy?" she groaned with a small whine in her voice, pouting ever so slightly. "Don't they know that I am weak?"
She bit back another small groan of annoyance before she looked around to make sure that she was alone and no one was watching her.
Oh, thank Gods... she was alone.
Gracie breathed a small sigh of relief before she pulled the trash bag out of the rolling trash can she used to move all of the trash bags to the dumpster and then it on the ground.
Again, the young female looked around to make sure that she was still alone before she looked at the bag that had been giving her problems for the past couple of minutes because she couldn't pick it up to throw it into the trash can.
Gracie took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh before she maneuvered her body in a way she could use the ground to help her with throwing the bag into the trash can so that she could finally be done with today.
The young female stomped on the ground and shoved her hands forward as if she was shoving something into the dumpster.
And, in a way, she was but not in a normal fashion type of way.
The piece of earth broke off from the rest of the concrete path and flew toward the center of the dumpster with her in control of it.
It hovered over the dumpster and waited for Gracie to either release the piece of the concrete or to flip it over so that the bag would land into the dumpster and then put the piece back as if it had never been moved or tampered with.
And the option was what Gracie decided to do. She flipped the concrete piece to the side and watched as the trash bag slid down it, much to the young female's relief.
"Hmph." Gracie smirked before she set the piece back into the same spot and made sure that it looked like nothing had changed or moved.
Again, the young female looked around to make sure that she was alone before she started to toss the rest of the bags into the dumpster, moving quickly but safely because for some reason, she was feeling unsettled like some had seen her using the "gifts" that had been bestowed on her since birth.
But to her, it was more of a curse than a gift...
Her heart ached and became filled with pain while her mind started to wander to what had happened to her in the past, but she didn't let that affect her work because she knew that at any moment, someone could come and "see" what she had done even after fixing the concrete piece.
The young female sighed with relief when she tossed the last bag into the dumpster and looked around to make sure that she was still alone before she started to close the dumpster's lid so that nothing could go in and make a mess of the bags of food and other things that were inside.
"I do not need to be told to get back on clock to clean up everything that had been messed up," she mumbled to herself and rolled her eyes while she pursed her lips in annoyance. She bit back a tired sigh and shook her head, moving the back of her hand across her forehead. "I'd cry if that happened again."
Nothing stirred in the quiet evening, but for some reason, Gracie could have sworn that she had heard someone chuckle, and the hair on the back of her neck stood at attention.
Oh, no....
Gracie slammed the lid of the dumpster into its normal spot with a loud thunk and turned in the direction that she had heard the chuckle. Her whole body was tense, and her heart skipped a beat before it pounded hard and fast in her chest, leaving every so often into her throat while she gulped.
Fear sent a shiver down her spine, and the hairs on the back of her neck stood at attention. "Hello?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper before she gulped.
Silence...
Gracie turned this way and that to see if there was someone there, but it looked like she was alone. Her whole body was tense, and she had the urge to run away and hide, but for some reason, she stayed put, waiting and watching for something else to happen.
"Hello?" she asked, her voice growing steadier and louder when she saw that no one was there. "Is anyone there?"
Againn, there was nothing but silence waiting for her.
Gracie turned to look in the direction of the darkest corner of the building where the light didn't hit, silently wondering if someone was there, watching her and waiting for... something else to happen.
The young female sighed and shook her head, laughing a little to herself. "Oh, I am going crazy," she said, with another laugh in her voice.
Gracie shook her head and pursed her lips in annoyance while she rubbed the bridge of her nose. "I have no idea who is out there or if there is anyone else, and I am hoping that no one is there and has seen that."
And she could always check...
Gracie pressed her lips into a thinner line when that thought crossed her mind. Her heart pounded steadily in her chest, and she couldn't help but take a hesitant step toward the steps that lead to the ground below.
She stopped at the edge of the steps that lead to the ground below and placed her hand on the railing, peering into the darkness. Her heart pounded hard and fast in her chest, and it sometimes felt as if it exploded with each passing second that she took standing there.
"Hello?" she asked again, her voice barely above a whisper and breaking the tense silence that seemed to have fallen on her and then whatever was there. "Is anyone out there? Please, I promise that I am not going to hurt you. I just want to know."
Again, there was nothing, no sound, nothing stirring, just nothing, and for a moment, Gracie couldn't help but wonder if she was going mad.
Graice sighed tiredly and rubbed the bridge of her nose when a wave of exhaustion washed over her, even though she had done nothing to provoke it. She shook her head and pursed her lips in annoyance, deciding to dismiss the feeling for a while and hoping that she wasn't making a grave mistake.
"I think I am going mad," she said, her voice barely above a whisper before she cleared her throat and licked her lips. "I do not know why I am going mad, but I know that I am going mad."
And I have no way to stop it, she thought while she pursed her lips further in annoyance and narrowed her eyes. I have a feeling that I will continue to go mad until something else happens that I have no control of, like discovering these powers at the wrong place and the wrong time...
Her heart ached and became filled with pain and sadness, and Gracie couldn't help but sniffle and blink back tears that wanted to fall.
Maybe whoever is out there would be able to bring me back to my family, she thought and pressed her lips into a thin line while she shook her head and wiped her eyes with the inside of her collar. Until then, I guess it is best that I get the trashcan back to where it needs to be before I am missed. I don't want Jim to think that I had abandoned my post while I am still on clock.
Again, the young female shook her head and bit back a tired sigh before she moved a hand through her hair and stopped before she moved her hand across her face while she pursed her lips in disgust about what she was about to do and hating that she had already done it a few times.
And I could damn well need a good scrubbing from all of that junk I had to face because only Gods knows what was in those bags, and I am sure that it was nothing good.
And with that, and another shake of her head, the young female turned her back to the darkness and walked away from it, leaving the thing in the darkness to breathe a small sigh of relief while it waited for the right time to collect her.
Thank, Gods...
