Chapter 1
Mary Kate- Springfield, Illinois
12:00 am CST
Mary Kate glanced around her, looking at the dead bodies of six men that had cornered her a couple of minutes beforehand, and they looked like they had been mangled by some ravenous animal and not some person that had a will to survive.
"I have warned you all not to mess with me," she muttered as she started to check the bodies of the dead people.
Her black hair fell into her face and covered her face like a veil while she started to pickpocket the fallen six men.
"Awww thanks, Chap," she said, with a smirk while she took off a leather jacket from one of the guys. "This is a great jacket and should hide my treasures, since you all decided to destroy my other one."
Mary Kate placed the black leather jacket on, not caring about the blood stains that were on it. "It can be washed," she muttered to herself as she picked the rest of their pockets.
When she reached over for the last person, a phone in her new leather jacket started to vibrate, and she flinched in shock and surprise.
"What the hell?" she asked while she glanced at the guy, who she had stolen the jacket from. "You got someone to call you at midnight to check on you?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Awww, that is so sweet of them. I should give them my condolences."
The female grabbed the phone and flicked it open while she held it to her ear. "Yelo?" she asked and cocked her head to the side while she raised an eyebrow in question.
"If this is Mary Kate, please press one," a robotic voice said on the other end of the line.
Mary Kate frowned, and the hair on the back of her neck stood at attention. Her whole body grew tense, and she stared at the guy in front of her with narrowed eyes. "Umm, this ain't she. Maybe you should try callin' back later?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
"If this is Mary Kate, please press one," the same robotic voice said.
"Dude, you're freaking me out right now," Mary Kate said, and she backed away from the bodies while she shook her head. "And I don't like that. I don't get freaked out."
"Please, press one," the voice said again.
Mary Kate's hand twitched, and her gray eyes glanced around the bodies of the men around her before she started to weigh the pros and cons.
The nervousness turned to curiosity, and she shrugged and grimaced before she pressed her lips into a thin line. "Eh, what can hurt?" she asked before she pressed the number one.
"Please, hold," the robotic female voice said.
Mary Kate scoffed and rolled her eyes. She pursed her lips in annoyance and tapped a finger on her leg, feeling impatient. "And now you tell me to hold?" she asked as Justin Bieber's Baby song started to play. "You're making me want to turn the damn phone off, for this ain't shit that I want to listen to," she muttered under her breath while she rolled her eyes and pursed her lips in annoyance.
As soon as she said that, someone turned off their music before the person cleared their throat. "Mary Kate...?" a male voice asked before he paused so that she could fill in the blank with her last name.
"Yea, what about it?" Mary Kate asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "And there ain't a last name, Buster," she added under her breath, pursing her lips in annoyance. "You should know that."
"So, I see that you killed my men," the male voice stated. He didn't sound upset, more amused than anything else, which made Mary Kate feel a little weirded and creeped out because she had no idea how he knew that.
"And now you call to check up on them? Hmmm? Also, who the hell are you?" she asked and gritted her teeth in warning.
"You'll know soon enough, and your questions will be answered then. Please, get into the black limo when it comes."
The hair on the back of Mary Kate's neck stood at attention, and her whole body grew tense. Her heart skipped a beat before it started to pound harder and faster in her chest, and her mouth went dry. "And why the hell will I do that?" she asked with a small hiss in her voice. "Why the hell would I get into the back of a stupid limo because a man on the other end of the phone told me to?"
Base- Somewhere out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean
6:15 pm UTC -10:00
The man frowned and was not impressed with her attitude.
They, the people he worked for, knew that she would be the hardest one to convince, and he still couldn't understand why his group wanted to get her first.
The girl wasn't the oldest child amongst the eight, and she wasn't the closest to base because a set of twins were far closer to them than she was.
"As I said before," the man replied, smoothly making sure that he didn't sound annoyed, "your answers will be answered when the limo comes. Please, get into the limo. The fate of the world depends on you entering that limo and coming here to start training."
He ran a hand through his hair and sighed when he heard the girl snort and mutter some stuff under her breath that he did not wish he had heard. "Please, Miss Mary Kate, there will be meals provided for you at this place, and you will not have to go without anything, I promise."
"There will be food?" the girl asked in mock interest, and the man's heart became filled with dread and sank into the pit of his stomach. "Well, why didn't you say that sooner, good Sir, who I do not know the name of? Did you say limo should be where I'm at soon, yes? Ok, well, bye."
There was a click when she hung up the phone and the male sighed, annoyed. He took the phone from his ear and placed it back into its container. He knew that she wouldn't go into the limo, no matter how much he and the others needed her.
"And that is why I didn't want to get her first," the male muttered under his breath, his British accent becoming more prominent. He sighed as he took off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I'll have to contact the Head to see if they can get to her before she can escape from their grasp."
The man grabbed a different phone and pressed a button on it while he waited for someone to answer it. He leaned back in his seat and tapped on his arm while he did so, waiting as patiently as he could for whoever to answer the phone to answer it.
Finally, there was a click on the other end, and he knew that someone had picked up without anyone saying anything
He cleared his throat and shifted on his seat. "Uh... please send out Group B to collect Miss Mary Kate. She will not come here unless she has been... bribed. I'll see if I can't get another person in the group while you work on that."
There was another click as the person hung up the phone, and he knew that whoever was on the other side of the line would do that.
The male sighed and ran a hand through his black hair. He felt exhausted, but he knew that he couldn't sleep. There were still more people to collect before the next day when he hoped to start training them. "I hope they have a better time getting her than I did."
Mary Kate- Springfield, Illinois
2:00 am CST
They didn't stop following her while she ran away from them, and they wouldn't leave her alone, even though that was all she wanted them to do so that she could go back "home" and go to bed.
Mary Kate gritted her teeth and picked up her pace while she started to go through alleyways and retracing her steps so that she could confuse them.
However, for some reason, they seemed to know what she wanted to do before she even knew what she wanted to do.
"Leave me alone!" she muttered under her breath while she picked up her pace and tried to get away from the people that wanted her for whatever reason. "I didn't do anything to you. Why are you following me?"
Someone grabbed a hold of her and pulled her into an alleyway that she went down yet, and she yelped in surprise. The person placed something on her face and squeezed her roughly, and the "young" girl gasped and took in whatever strange scents that were on the cloth.
Mary Kate slowly started to fall unconscious and stopped fighting the person that had grabbed her and placed it over her face. Damn it, she thought with a small groan of annoyance in her voice while she was on the brinks of becoming unconscious. This night couldn't have gone any better than this.
And after that thought, everything went black and was replaced with nothingness and fear.
