Episode Twenty Five (Clip Two)

JL: "I'll do it for Katie!"

----('100' starts playing)----

(Later....)

The two cars started revving their engines in the starting line at the bottom of the hill. A dark blue Evo in front and a bright yellow Subaru as chaser, ready to settle their rivalry once in for all.

"This is gonna be a fierce battle." A bystander concluded.

"Both rival sport sedans competing in their home terrain for the placing of the rally King."

"It going to be epic."

Airi then got to the front with her left hand high in the air.

"I'm starting the countdown!!"

JL kept his eyes focussed on the road as Dino cracked his knuckles before relaxing his hands on the steering.

"Five!!"

"Four!!"

"Three!!"

"Two!!"

"One!! GO!!!"

(Beat drops)

The squeals of both car's tyres were amplified as the two sedans launched off into the night of the muddy canyon roads.

Dino and JL clutched and shifted up gears. The Subaru boxer and Mitsubishi 4G63 competing for their loudness in revs.

"There they go!!" Joel exclaimed as both cars launched off, kicking dirt by their back wheels.

"The ultimate rivalry between the two sedans will be settled tonight!!

The first corner was coming in, JL did a basic handbrake drift around the corner but he was going much slower than expected which threw him off his confidence as he floored the gas pedal harder and counter steering.

"Bingo." Dino observed behind. "And that's where your absent knowledge of rally would show itself."

"Damn," JL cursed. "I was stupid to think the terrain is similar to the Touge-gate in Japan."

"More mud and gravel on the asphalt would mean a rougher surface which means I'll need to punch the throttle more on each corner to keep up pace. Calling these roads asphalt is also real dumb."

"This isn't asphalt but pure dirt!"

Dino then downshifted his STI Impreza around the tight bend, cornering faster than JL and closing the gap.

"If I were to lead, the match would have been over by now." He said as he followed the Evo in front of him into another tight hairpin.

"But where's the fun in that? I came here to battle my father's rival's son that is using the car that rivals mine in the automotive world of rally."

"I won't lose to that Lan-Evo." He demanded, clutching and downshifting into another hairpin. The gravel and stones rattling underneath their undercarriages as they zoomed uphill through the jungle of the Brazillian canyon.

JL downshifted and ripped the handbrake into another L-bend curve and executed it at three quarter he's normal cornering speed. He was far behind his usual pace at first but he was slowly able to adapt to the mountainous terrain to increase his speed.

The Evos 4G63 twin turbo engine was also effective in the terrain, able to keep it's speed on the dirt and still accelerate on the brutal muddy roads.

(Back at the summit....)

The team was discussing on the race when suddenly someone familiar showed up behind them. The man in his 40s wearing a white coat tapped Louis shoulder repeatedly. The hoodie turned to see his sensei who taught him in drifting since the beginning.

"David-Sensei!" Louis greeted the man in shock. "What brings you here?"

"If my student is here racing in an Evo against a Subi. You'll be sure I'll watch it." David said.

"So what do you think our chances are in beating this Impreza?" Louis asked

David thought of the question for a solid minute. "I can't say for certain but the Impreza does perform the same as the Evo the fact that their both rally cars."

"However, the Evo has an unique feature to is drivetrain I must say. It's definitely not a point you can miss when driving a Lan-Evo on uneven dirt roads." The doctor explained.

Coming out from the next corner, the two cars drifted out and floored it on the straightaway. There was no change in position.

The Brazilian crowd yelled in delight as they saw both the Evo VIII and STI Impreza jumping up and down due to the hilly roads of the canyon.

JL's carbon fibre GT wing proved it's worth in aerodynamics as well as keeping the chassis of the Evo on the ground and not flying as high as the Impreza on each bump.

The next corner came ahead. The brakes pads of the Lan-Evo glowed red of over a 1000 degrees Celsius as the back tyres stalled to shift the cars weight into a power drift.

But instead of squealing, the tyres rustled on the wet, muddy road. JL controlled the counter steer with effort, trying to hold into a second run.

"Active Yaw Control." David began as the group stared at him thinking he was taking some mumbo jumbo.

"It's a system in the drivetrain of every Evo which distributes torque individually to each four tyres preventing the car from spinning out if one of the wheels has a lost of traction." The doctor explained.

"Which makes it perfect for driving on two different surfaces with ease."

The blue hair downshifted and did a heel and toe moment to counter a next hairpin. The front tyres slipped sideways on the mud, turning the Evo into a tight hairpin. JL purposely understeered to the outside of the corner into the grass doing his dirt drop drift to increase his exit speed.

"Impressive." Dino observed, the Evo was quickening it's pace and adapting. "He used his Active Yaw Control to his advantage, if he were to use his GT-R to pull out that stunt at that speed he would have spun out due to his tyres on two different mediums of the road."

JL pushes the brakes and power drifted into another bend. He could hear the menacing twin turbos and the four Boxer engine behind him.

Dino's boost gauges went up, the hissing of the turbos were heaven in his car.

"No 4G63 can outrun a tuned turbo Boxer." Dino thought as he accelerated at JL's bumper. "The hiss of the turbo at redline is ecstacy!!"

"And now, I can see your technique from behind right up close and personal."

"I'm sorry it had to be like this JL, but hey you choose to battle me fair and square."

The two cars exited another corner with dirt and gravel shooting behind the their tyres.

"Not only the Active Yaw Control is what's saving JL from being passed now." David continued. "But also the Active Center Differential."

"Active Center Differential?" Louis asked. "What's that?"

David chuckled at the question. "It'll allow JL to perform better four wheel skids."

"Making the Evo an ideal car for a drift junkie."

The two rally cars continued down the night making deafening engine sounds as they went. JL downshifted and turned the steering left and right into a hairpin.

"The second run is coming up soon. The downhill." He thought, "I'll won't be so lucky then, he's about to keep up with my rear due to his turbo."

"But at least I've got a plan of attack now. And I'm going to use it!!"

They were reaching the goal after a few hairpins. The staff at the bottom could hear the sounds of their engines in the distance. Soon the Lan-Evo and Impreza STI both crossed the finish with no change in position.

JL let out a sigh of relief and relaxed on his bucket seat. "Looks like to me second run will start soon."

"And there'll be no holding back!!"

(Music ends)
