First day jitters
Mays POV
If this boy thinks a rose will make up for the humiliation I just went through I fumed at my thoughts.
I knew it wasn't completely the boys fault for the incident but he didn't seem too fazed on it. Before I can tell him as much the bell rang. First period was about to start.
The groups had been talking to each other, making small talk. The boy who seemed most focused on me was Drew, the youngest of the targets.
"Let me walk you to class." He spoke, the smirk on his face holding the confidence he felt in himself for all to see.
I just brush past him and walk.
"May!" Leaf calls out. The girls are hot on my tail.
"Why did they have to be our targets." I glowered, ignoring their calls after us. Dawn just winks at me. With a flick of her wrist, the boy shouts a confused; "what the?"
I turn to find the boys blazer thrown over his head, the gush of window softening as it move to rattle some of the papers taped to the locker doors.
"Ugh, our lockers," I groaned, only now remembering our task.
"It's okay, we'll find them after class." Leaf smiled at me, reassuring as always.
"Okay." I take a breath. The classroom door seemed more daunting than it had moments ago, the idea now being a reality. An arm wraps around my shoulders.
"Come on," Misty smiles, Togepi calling from her other arm. "We'll be great."
Eevee jumps up and clings to my shoulder, nuzzling into my cheek. I knew she was telling me she agreed. We can do this.
The classrooms chatter quietens as we open the door. The class turns, eyes flickering over the four of us. Timidly I push through, any confidence I gained back slowly dwindling now.
Misty squeezed me, before one by one the girls made their way through the room. There were a few empty seats spread out between classmates, and my eyes zoned in on the one at the back.
"You must be May, am I right?" A girl asked as I walked past. Her voice was sickerly-sweet in its fake tone. I tried to ignored her, but she wasn't having it.
She snatched the rose from my hair and twirled it between her fingers. "You got yourself a new rose?"
"Yeah. Why do you want to know?" My voice was clipped as I asked. Her Skitty was mocking in its call. Eevee shifted in my arms, upset.
"Hey, don't go all stiff on me now." She smirked. Her friends beside her laughed as their Pokémon joined in. Eevee jumped from my arms, heckles raised, only to be frightened off by one of the girls Geodudes.
"What did you call me?" I asked anger rising in my voice. I took a step forwards, my teeth grinding in anger. Eevee grumbled from behind my legs.
"Oh did I offend the precious princess stiff of the janitor closet?" She giggled. "Upset someone took your bucket crown?"
The classroom began to laugh altogether. I grabbed Eevee and made my way to the back of the classroom. Eevee jumped down on my empty desk as sat, waiting for me to give her a pat.
Mistys POV
I turned around hearing a group of girls laughing and pointing at May as she made her way to the back. No doubt it was about the mop bucket incident this morning. I looked at the other girls and they gave me worried glances. I go to sit with her, but Leaf shakes her head.
We have to stay on mission. With a sigh I sit down at my seat and hope May is okay. Togepi chirps from where it sits on my desk. I smile down at her.
"Mist?" I heard a familiar voice call my name. Snapping me out of thought, I turned to the raven haired boy making his way over to me. Ash.
He looked a little less put together than the rest of his friends. His uniform wasn't done up correctly; the tie was missing, his hat wasn't up to the dress code standard the four girls memorised this morning.
His Pikachu jumped up onto my desk and greeted Togepi. Ash helped himself into the seat beside me.
His gaze followed where I was looking at May.
"Is she okay?" He asked, his brows furrowed in worry.
"Yeah, I'm sure she's good." I answer quickly, pulling out my books and pens from my bag.
"Woah! Thats a cute charm!" Ash bends forwards to get a look at the charm dangling from my pen. It was a Psyduck. Dawn got it for me as a gift after our first mission succeeded. All the girls had matching charms. She smiled at it fondly.
"Yeah, it is." She turned to Ash, who was already riffling through his own bag.
"Man, I forgot to do my homework." Ash sighed before turning to me. "Can I copy yours?"
He's an idiot.
Mays POV
The lunch bell rang. The class errupted into noise as they all got out of their seats, making their way out and towards the cafeteria.
The girls were quick to flock to me.
"What happened in there?" Misty asked, gaze soft as she watched me. I just shook her off.
"Nothing. Hey, I'm not really feeling hungry," I was quick to change the subject. The others knew I was deflecting, but they also knew to leave me be. "I'm gonna go try and find my locker."
"Okay." Leaf's hand rested on my shoulder, giving it a squeeze before the three left to go grab lunch.
"You should go with them." I turned to look at Eevee. She shook her head. "No point us both going hungry." I shooed her off. She looked back at me for a moment before joining Leafeon, who looked back at me before giving the little Pokémon a nuzzle.
With a sigh I let my feet carry me in the opposite direction. I'm not sure where I'm going, each step an echo through my mind as I walk endlessly. I come to a stop outside an empty classroom.
"Hello?" i peer through. No one answers back. I walk in. There are a few instruments lying around. My eyes gaze over each one, before landing on a red guitar resting against a chair.
I pick it up and sit down. I strum. With each little flicker of a note I hum to match its tune. The wires dig into my skin with each note I produce, the sounds bouncing off the walls and playing back to me.
A crash sounded behind me.
The music died out as a mop of green hair crashed through the door and ducked beneath the teachers desk. The squealing of girls grew.
"Mister Popular, I presume?" I smiled as I turned from the desk, strumming on the guitar once more.
"Shush!" He hissed back from his spot at the desk. The sounds of his fans calling for him grew. I made a move for the door, but he just snatches my hand. "Don't! They'll see you!"
"Don't tell me what to do." I glared at the boy. It's partly his fault that my day has been as bad as it's been. "They're not after me, lover boy."
"Drew!" An assortment of girl voices were heard screaming his name. We turned to find the group having spotted up from just down the hall. "There he is!"
I cursed at the unfortunate luck at recognising the girls voice as the one who plucked the rose from my hair.
He grabs my hand and runs. The girls call out, shocked. I turn back to see them still following us. He turns a few corners, brushing past people as he dragged me. I apologise to them, hoping no one ends up in a similar situation as I did not moments ago.
Drew came to a stop. I almost bash into him from behind. I stumble back.
"What now?" I groan as I face him. He's turning around, looking any-which way he can for an escape. We've reached a dead end.
I groan to myself. "Come here!" I grab his hand and make a run. A few passes back there was a door.
"What are you doing?!" He panicked beside me. The girls voices were getting louder down the hallway, and it wouldn't be much longer before they turned down this way.
"Gotcha." I open the door into the stair well and we start to climb upwards. To the roof.
"Let's hope they're not smart enough to come up here." I huff before taking in a deep breath. I wasn't in a mindset for a brisk jog through school.
"Well if they do we're trapped!" Drew shouted at me, panicked. I scoffed before putting on an innocent smile.
"No, you're trapped." I said bopping his nose and walking off. I made it for the door.
"Hey that's not-" he was interrupted by my hand covering his mouth. Quietly I guided him past the door and to the side of the entry way, shoving him against the wall as I watch the door.
Footsteps.
My mind reels with whats going on. For a moment I had forgotten the mission. I was so worked up I let my emotions get the better of me. My Pokémon partner wasn't even at my side.
I take a deep breath. I have my fire.
Drew struggles against my grip. "Sh." I shush him like he had done to me earlier. I bit my lip and waited. The door opened.
"Not here." A voice called, followed by a group of sighs. The girls moved back down the stairs. Once the footsteps died down, I let out a sigh.
"That was close." I look at Drew. His eyes are watching me. A blush spreads over our faces as our noses blush. I quickly let him go with an apology.
Footsteps again.
I quickly turn to the door, hand outstretched and ready as my heart beats against my chest.
"May, you up here?" I sigh, hand falling limply to my side. Eevee bursts from the door, her head swiveling about before her eyes lock on me. She calls out in glee before running and jumping into my arms.
"Did we interrupt?" Ash asked stepping out from behind. He looked between the two of us. My face burns.
"No. Nope. I was just head out," I laugh awkwardly, grabbing Misty's arm on my way and running down the stairs.
"What was that about?" She asked as I pulled her.
"Let's just say this is gonna be the hardest mission we were assigned." I pouted. Misty just giggled at my antics before the bell rang.
