Chapter 31: Battle for Luxia: Part 6

Henry grabbed on to Alianor's hand just as her fingers slipped. He looked at her frightened face and watched as relief washed over it when she realized she was no longer falling.

He pulled her up and once she was out, she collapsed on the ground on her behind, breathing heavily.

"Why is it that I always have to come save you?" Henry asked with a smirk kneeling in front of her

"Shut up," she said playfully slapping his arm

Their moment of fun was short-lived when they heard Caine's voice.

"Thank you for getting this back to me. I've been looking all over for it"

Alianor turned and saw the open book in his hand. Dread and guilt instantly washed over her. Henry got up from his knees and made his way to Caine. Warriors got in his way, slowing him down. But that was all they did. A few balls of flame went their way and they were gone. With the last one down he made his way to Caine, but it was too late. The Moon guardian's hand was already in the air.

Caine had easily found the spell he was looking for. He remembered coming across it many years ago and wishing he would have the chance to use it. That chance finally came.

With the last of his warriors defeated, the guardians looked to Caine and knew that something more was coming. Their eyes instantly went to the ground, expecting another Crack to appear.

"Crescere umbra viventis!" Caine said

There was no earthquake, there was no cracking sound coming from the earth. Still sitting on the ground, Alianor looked up at Caine. She was the first to know what was going on.

The lone warrior that had been standing by his side the whole battle began to change.

She quickly picked herself up.

"Look" she pointed at the two

Soon, every eye was on them, and they quickly widened in shock, some in fear.

"What's going on down there?" Jacquelyn asked looking over the scene

Her answer came when she noticed what everyone was looking at.

Like the warriors before, this one began to grow, but this time more rapidly. Its limbs grew bigger as its body grew taller. There was no doubt that it was now stronger. The teeth in its mouth grew shaper and the red glow in its eyes seemed to brighten.

The new and improved Abdul stood thirty feet tall before them. The guardians stared, unsure of what to do next. But they had to think fast as Abdul charged towards them. He made his way to the closest guardian, Henry, who already had a fireball in hand, ready to throw it after him. He threw it, but it made no impact. Abdul's shoulder moved back at the impact, but he kept charging. Once he was close enough, he grabbed on to the guardian's outstretched hand and threw him to the side.

Henry went flying before he landing hard on the ground. Gasps came from the soldiers and other luxians around. He yelled out in pain, quickly gripping the arm he had fallen on.

The eyes that were on the wounded guardian quickly went back to the warrior as he spoke.

"Your little magic tricks won't work on me," he said, his voice large and deep with an eery tone

Doubt began to peek its head. What were they supposed to do? There was no way each of their magic was strong enough to defeat it.

"We have to work together" Alianor heard Morgaine say "Our little magic tricks won't work on their own. But if we work together, we will defeat you"

"Do your best" the warrior smiled showing his deadly teeth

Henry pushed himself off the ground, still wincing in pain.

"Oh we will" he responded

Moraine looked at the others and they all nodded. Ryia was the first to move. She went down on her knees, her fingers touching the ground. It didn't take long for roots to sprout from the ground and wrap themselves around Abdul's feet. Its appearance had taken him by surprise, but he wasted no time ripping them off.

Philip saw what was happening and proceed to shoot frost at him. Patches of his skin began to freeze, stiffening his movements.

"This might actually work" Philip whispered to himself

Henry was next, sending fireballs straight at the warrior. He wasn't missing a shot because of Abdul's stiffened movements, but that all changed when the warrior's movements became fluid again. He tore his feet away from the roots and dodged the balls of fire hurled his way. Some landed on the building behind Abdul, while others exploded in the sky.

Jacquelyn was above, wanting to get in on the action. She decided to try another of her grandfather's tricks. She concentrated before swinging her arm, causing a large gust of wind to blow against Abdul. It wasn't enough to knock him down, just for him to lose his balance. It was certainly strong enough to extinguish Henry's flames and knock her fellow guardians and Morgaine off their feet.

"Oops," she said covering her mouth

Alianor looked at the chaos as she got up from the ground. She wasn't sure there was anything she could do.

Morgaine, on the other hand, didn't feel that way and sent balls of sunlight at Abdul. The warrior groaned in pain. She was doing some damage, but not enough. Abdul made his way to the Sun Queen, and she suffered the same faith as Henry and was tossed aside.

"Pathetic" Abdul chuckled while looking at the bunch "And you call yourselves guardians?"

The fighting continued, balls of fire, water and light were hurled, frost and vines joined the mix. But nothing seemed to work.

Jacquelyn felt like there was more she could do.

"I need you all to shoot at that thing!" she said to those on the boat with her

She knew it wouldn't kill him, but she hoped it give her and her friends a better shot at defeating the overgrown warrior.

Without hesitation, bows were pulled and arrows were sent flying down. Those on the other boat saw and quickly joined in. On the ground, seeing what was going on, the luxians with their crossbows decided to join in on the action.

The guardians quickly moved to the side, trying to avoid getting hit by the stray arrows. Abdul was caught off guard by the arrows. They pierced his skin felt like insect bites and it was just as annoying as one. His attention was no longer on the guardians, but on the source of the arrows, buying the guardians some time.

"We need to figure something out, this isn't working," Ryia said

"It's like our powers are going against each other" Philip began "I freeze part of him, Henry thaws it. Alianor gets a fireball out before it could even get to him"

"We're going need to find a way to defeat him without our magic getting in each other's way," Morgaine said

"But how?" Philip asked

Before anyone had a chance to answer, the sound of breaking wood could be heard above them. Their heads instantly shot up and their eyes widened at the sight. A portion of one of the boats was gone, and there were three knights still holding on to the floating boat for dear life. They were unsure of what happened, but they got their answer when they heard a laugh. Their heads shot to the shadow guardian, who had one hand raised and the other holding on to the book of Shadow Magic. In his raised palm was what looked like a floating dark cloud, swirling around, growing larger and larger.

"We need to come up with something, and quick" Ryia urged

"Well, Morgaine and I's magic seems to do the most damage so.." Henry began but was cut short by Philip

"So what? You and Morgaine will fight him and the rest of us just sit back and watch?" the ice guardian said annoyed "I thought this was supposed to be a group effort?"

"Well, what else are we supposed to do?" Henry was now annoyed "You're the one that said we're getting in each other's way"

"He's right" Alianor spoke up

"He is?"

"I am?"

"Yes. Henry and Morgaine are the ones doing the most damage" she clarified "Fire and light don't go well with darkness"

"So what are we supposed to do? Let them do all the work?" Philip asked

"No" she answered "I have an idea"

She then proceeded to tell it to them.

"That might actually work" Morgaine nodded

"But how would Jacquelyn know what she's supposed to do when she's all the way up there" Ryia pointed out

Unbeknownst to them, Caine had a solution to their problem.

The wind guardian had begun to lower the boat, predicting another attack from Caine. It came when he sent another cloud at the boats. She lost her concentration for a moment, and that was enough for the boats to start falling to the ground.
