Chapter 29: Battle for Luxia: Part 4

It didn't take long for the warriors guarding the house to spot the group as they left Gawain's house. Philip raised his hands to them, freezing them on the spot before they rushed out of the gate.

They walked the streets cautiously, bodies alert for any sign of a shadow warrior. Soon enough, like Royale warned, they came across a group of shadow warriors. The two new guardians stepped forward, Alianor swinging her satchel to her back, getting it out of her way. Their hands raised and ice, frost and water flew everywhere. Soon, the ground was littered with ash and frozen warriors.

"Let's go," Philip said before they continued their way down the streets

They passed Luxians who were trapped in their homes. The people's face brightened with excitement and hope at the sight of the new and old guardians. They knew now that they had a chance to be saved.

The guardians met more warriors along the way, and they dealt with them the same way. Soon enough, they came to the town square. They hid at the back a building and peeked from behind it. In the middle of the square, they say two warriors guarding what looked like a large cage. The bars were black and burning in black and purple flame. In the cage stood the other former guardians.

"How are we supposed to get them out of that?" Philip asked

"I have an idea," Alianor said holding up the book of Shadow magic

But she didn't open the book, she had already memorised the reverse spell. She knew that at some point in the day she would have to use it. She peeked around the building once more before reciting the words of the spell.

"Tenebris novisia!"

At first, nothing happened, but soon, the flames of the bars died down until they were out. The bars themselves began to fade into nothingness. The former guardians looked around them in surprise as their holding cell disappeared before them. The warriors' backs were facing the cage, making them unaware of the happenings behind them.

Geoffrey immediately began to assess the situation. They would still have to get past the warriors after the cage was completely gone. He began to look around for something to use as a weapon. The only thing he saw was a large rock. He quickly picked it up and held it over his head, slowly walked towards the unexpecting warrior once the cage finally faded. He clenched the rock and was ready to strike when the warriors froze to ice in front of him.

"What the?" Geoffrey said and he dropped the rock on the floor

Ilda smiled to herself, she knew exactly what was happening. After all, she had done it many times before.

"Philip," she said to herself

The older men instantly knew what she meant, and it was confirmed when Alianor and Philip ran up to them.

"Oh Philip" Ilda grinned walking up to her grandson with arms opened wide

Philip slowed down, a bit surprised by the gesture. The last time his grandmother hugged him was when he was ten. He couldn't even remember what the occasion was.

He was finally standing in front of her and she pulled him into an embrace. He hugged her back tightly, not realising that he had missed her hugs. After a few seconds, which felt like hours to Philip, she pulled away. She placed her hands on his cheeks and looked up at him.

"You're a guardian," she said with bright eyes

At that moment he saw something in her he hadn't seen for a long time, pride. And for a while, he understood why Henry tried so hard to please his grandfather. There was something amazing about seeing your parent, or even grandparent, proud of you.

"I am" Philip finally said with a smile

She smiled back, trying hard to hold back her tears,

"Makes you feel proud doesn't it?"

The former guardians looked up towards the voice and couldn't help the large grins that appeared on their faces. Alistair made his way towards them, Zoricus following closely behind.

Hugs were exchanged between the reuniting group and they found themselves standing in a circle like they always did as children.

"The crew is back" Geoffrey grinned

"Except we're old now" Zioricus commented

"Being in your seventies isn't considered being old anymore" Geoffrey said

"Tell that to my back," Alistair said

A chuckle erupted from the group.

"At least Gawain looks like he can still be fifty" Zoricus said

The former earth guardian grinned as he touched his face "Royale makes me moisturize"

"I see you still do anything she tells you to do" Zoricus teased

"Wait, are you saying the rest of us look old?" Geoffrey stepped in

"Well..." Zoricus began, looking at Ilda who had given him a daring look "Ilda still looks beautiful as she always did" She smiled at his answer "Alistair could still pass as sixty. You, on the other hand, look like a wrinkled behi..."

"OK," Philip said stopping Zoricus

"We don't want to break up your little reunion but we have a kingdom to save," Alianor said

"Right" her grandfather responded before turning back to his old friends "Let's save Luxia"

The tides were beginning to turn again, and this time in the favour of Caine. Warriors were emerging from the crack faster than they could destroy. But Caine was not at ease, he only saw three of the five guardians, and knew that the other two would be showing their faces soon. He had warriors guarding the forest's edge and other looking up at the sky at the now visible boats. He wasn't about to get caught off guard this time. But little did he know, he was falling right into their trap, again.

The number of warriors was lessening, and Caine summoned a new wave of them to emerge from the gorge. Once again, dark rotten looking hands come from it as warriors climbed out. They had no time to get out as arrows sank into their backs and sent them falling back in. Caine looked on confused. These arrows didn't come from above him but from the other side of the canyon. He looked up and saw Philip and Alianor standing there. And on their knees in front of them were men with crossbows.

Caine released a throaty growl, cursing himself for not thinking about covering his back.

"Thought we'd join in on the fun," Philip said with a smile

The moon guardian quickly got upset and shot back.

"What are a few measly men with crossbows going to accomplish?"

"Not much" Philip answered, "But..."

At that, people emerged from, the buildings behind them, each with a weapon in hand.

After rescuing the former guardians and breaking up their reunion, they continued around the villages and town, rescuing the rest of the people of the north. Most were able to fight and decided to use their own weapons. Those without were supplied with those from Gawain, Ilda and Geoffrey's weaponry. Soon, an army from the north emerged and now, all of luxia was fighting and doing what they could to save their kingdom.

"...I'm pretty sure all of us can do a lot of damage" Philip ended his sentence, pointing to the mass of people behind him and at his sides

Caine was livid, that much could be seen from the snarl he sent them. He lifted his hand over his head and those on the other side knew what that meant, more warriors were about to come. Morgaine sent Philip and Alianor a reassuring nod, then she, Henry and Ryia began fighting again.

The warriors emerged, this time facing the newcomers.

"Get ready!" Philip shouted

As the first few got out from the pit, the men with crossbows shot their arrows, sending most of them down

"Let's go!" Philip yelled

The crossbows were lowered and the people of the north ran towards the creatures with their weapons held high and a war cry escaping their lips. Some of them were starting to have second thoughts after seeing the creatures. But it was too late now, the fight had already begun.
