Chapter 19: Power High

Caine smirked as chaos erupted in front of him. The people running away from his warriors and moments later getting captured by them was probably his favorite thing to watch.

Earlier that morning, he and his warriors had crossed the barrier using the tunnel. They had spent some time in the clearing along the barrier as a select few scoped the area. Once a path was found and a plan made, they marched through the forest and attacked the unsuspecting people of the North.

Caine slowly walked through the streets, taking in the environment. He had to give it to the banished Luxians, they had found ways to survive and function as normal. Sadly, that was all about to end. But to ensure that, there were some old friends he needed to see.

He stood in what looked like a town square. It certainly wasn't as large as the one in the South, and there was no statue erected at its center. He looked at the chaos and soaked it all in, he really was enjoying this.

"Master" he heard Abdul say from behind him

He turned towards the voice of his trusted warrior and his smirk instantly turned into a grin. Abdul was given the task to find the former guardians, and he had fulfilled his task.

Standing before him, each accompanied by a shadow warrior was Geoffrey, Ilda, and Gawain. They did not look very pleased to see him.

"My old friends" Caine greeted them "It's so good to see you all again"

"Wish we could say the same" Geoffrey mumbled

Caine ignored him, he expected some feistiness. He looked them over, then walked towards them, stopping in front of Gawain first.

"Well, don't you age well" he commented "You almost look the same as you did when you got banished" he added with a grin

He moved down the line and stopped in front of Ilda and Geoffrey.

"Do you two still hate each other? Your parents would be very proud if you did" he said

He stepped back and looked at them all. He wanted to comment on their silence at his words, but he had more important things to get to. He turned to Abdul.

"Bring their families to me" he instructed

"There will be no need for that" Geoffrey said causing Abdul to stop in his tracks

"And why is that?" Caine asked

"We know who you're looking for," Ilda said

"You do?"

"Yes. And sadly, the five of them aren't here" Geoffrey answered, stressing on the number five

Caine began to feel uneasy.

"And where might they be?" he asked, his teeth gritted, his cocky demeanor now gone

"In the forbidden forest" Gawain answered "Actually, they've probably already found the table"

This time the former guardians' faces were plastered with grins. Caine immediately lost it.

"Lock them up!" he instructed and the warriors began to drag them away to cages Caine had created hours before "Warriors! Go to the forbidden forest and find those descendants! Now!"

A group of warriors immediately went out, all going in the direction of the forest.

"They will defeat you!" Gawain yelled as he was being dragged away

"No matter what you do!" Geoffrey added

"Destiny will be fulfilled," Ilda said

Caine didn't respond, he was too afraid that they were right. But he wasn't going to give up. He would defeat the new guardians like he defeated the first, and all of Luxia would be under his control.

Morgaine ran as fast as she could, the brown book held tightly in her hand. She looked over her shoulder for the millionth time, checking to see if she was being followed.

The book had warned her about the attack, and she was headed to the former guardians to do the same. But before she could get to Gawain's house, she heard the roars and screeches of the shadow warriors and knew she needed to get away.

Now she was in the forest, running to the one place she could think of to hide. She eventually made it to the edge of the forest and was greeted by what looked like a base for Caine and his warriors. But to her relief, there weren't many around. There was only one group she could see at the moment and they were facing in the opposite direction of her destination.

She emerged from the trees and went behind the closest made shift tent and then made her way behind a cart filled with weapons. She was tempted to steal a sword, but she didn't need anything weighing her down or catching anyone's attention. Plus, she was the Sun Queen, and the Sun Queen didn't steal weapons, nor did she need one.

She continued to hide behind tents, carts and other objects, and then she finally made it to the door.

The door that led to the other side

Outside the cave, scattered around the waterfall, the new guardians were in their own little world. Like children who had just gotten new toys, the five were eager to test out their new powers. They remembered the stories of their grandparents using their powers, and that feeling and believing were what made it work.

Jacquelyn was next to a tree, standing over a pile of fallen leaves. She was moving them around with the wind. Close by, Ryia was kneeling in front of a plant with a flower bud, trying to make it bloom. Alianor and Philip were next to the water. While the brunette was moving the water around, the blonde man was freezing it.

Henry sat far off from the others. Unlike them, he wasn't having any success. He would try to make a fireball out of thin air, but all he got was a spark in the middle of his palm. He sighed in defeat as he leaned back on a rock. Why was this so hard for him? He was about to give up when he looked up and saw the dragon sitting in front of him, looking on expectantly.

"Here to help me out with this fire thing?" he asked it

A rumble in its chest came as its answers and then it breathed fire from its mouth.

"Here's the thing, I can't breathe fire out of my mouth like you can"

The dragon seemed to ignore him. It looked down at Henry's hand and did it again. Henry noticed.

"Want me to try again?"

The dragon nodded and Henry chuckled. Maybe it was well trained by a human, which was why it knew so much.

He lifted his right hand, looked into his palm and started to concentrate. But nothing happened. He sighed then looked up at the dragon. It closed its eyes. Henry figured it wanted him to do the same. So, following its lead, he closed his eyes and began to concentrate once again. Then, Henry heard a gush. He quickly opened his eyes and it instantly widened at the sight of a ball of flames hovering over his palm. He grinned, he had finally done it.

He then lifted his hand and threw the ball of flames. The dragon quickly got on its feet and chased after it. The ball of fire vanished into thin air and the dragon returned to Henry.

"Want me to do it again?" he asked

The rumble came from it and Henry did it again...and again, and again. It became a game for the two.

Alianor, having had enough practice, for now, decided that it might be time for them to start heading back. She looked around and instantly spotted Henry and the dragon. She smiled. For someone who didn't want to pet it, he sure was having a lot of fun with it.

She walked over to them.

"Sorry to disrupt your game of fetch..." she began "...but we have a kingdom to save

Henry heaved, a little bit tired. "Right" he then turned to the others "Time to leave guys!" he yelled

"Awww" they heard Jacquelyn say in disappointment from her pile of leaves

"You seemed to be having a lot of fun," Alianor told Henry

"No, I wasn't. I was just testing out my magic, like you" he quickly answered

"If you say so," she said with a small smile

The others gathered around the dragon to say goodbye. It seemed disappointed to see them go. After giving it one last pet and promising to return as soon as they can, they headed in the direction they came from.

Before disappearing behind the trees, Henry looked back. The dragon, excited for the attention, shot flames out of its mouth. Henry smiled, he was going to miss the annoying beast. But he wasn't going to say that out loud.

They were walking for a while throughout the trees when Alianor stopped in her tracks.

"Wait, why are we walking?" she asked

"What do you mean?" her best friend asked

"We have magic" she pointed out

"Oh yeah," Jacquelyn said smirking

"But how do we use it? Do we have to say some translocation spell?" Ryia asked

"My grandmother used to tell me about how she used to imagine herself somewhere and she'd just be there" Philip answered "So, we could just imagine ourselves home and end up there"

The others nodded, except for the youngest.

"Let's not go home just yet," Jacquelyn said "We can go to those shadow vultures and wild cats and reverse Caine's spell"

"That won't make much of a difference," Ryia said

"Why not?"

"Well, they're vultures and mountain lions. Even without Caine's magic they're still dangerous"

"Good point," Jacqulyn said, "Well, how about we go back to the bridge and fix it?"

"Why would we do that? We have magic, we don't need it anymore" Henry objected

"Well...maybe one day we won't feel like poofing around, so we'll walk" the blonde reasoned

"For four days?" Philip asked

"Well..."

"You just want to use your magic more don't you?" Alianor asked her

"Yeah" she admitted with a sigh "I just want to test it out some more"

They all had to admit, they felt the same way she did. If they had to defeat Caine with magic, they had to know how to use it right, right?

"Fine, we'll go to the bridge," Alinor said, the others didn't object

"But first, we reverse some shadow spells on animals" Ryia added

"No more shadow bunnies?" Jacquelyn looked at her hopefully

Ryia chuckled "No more shadow bunnies"

So, that was what they did. They thought hard about the places they wanted to go. Soon, colorful smoke appeared around them. In the blink of an eye, they were in the places they thought of. They reversed the spells on the vultures, mountain lions and to Jacquelyn's delight, the bunnies, which turned out to not really be shadow bunnies. The mountain lions were quick to attack, and they weren't able to get them all. They did the same reverse spell to any creature they happened to find that didn't look or act the way they were supposed to.

They finally found themselves appearing next to the bridge. They were on the side where the painted boulder was in full view.

"So how exactly do we fix this?" Henry asked

"The same way we poofed here" Jacqulyn answered

"We think about it and it happens" Alinor clarified

"Alright, let's do it," Philip said raising his hand towards the bridge

"Wait!" Jacquelyn yelled, stopping the other from following in Philip's lead

"What?" Henry asked annoyed

"Don't do it!"

"Why not? You're the one that wanted to do this" the dark-haired guardian said

"Look!"

Jacquelyn pointed to the other side and the others looked. There was something hiding behind the trees and it soon showed itself. Then two more did, then five, then twenty. The number kept multiplying.

"What is that?" Ryia asked staring at the unfamiliar creatures

"The freaking shadow people" Jacquelyn answered
