Chapter Five: I Speak For Olivia
(Your POV)
After my emotional breakdown I went to get ready as best I could. I bathed and all that. I would've washed my clothes but I figured if I did they would fall apart. Ikki showered me with something that smelt sweet and cold called peppermint to fight off the smell my clothes had. I smiled and thanked her. She just gave me a quick hug and ran off. I walked out into the main area of the temple to see Asami and Mako waiting for me. Oddly Korra is with them. I walked up and asked something.
You: "Are you coming to?" I asked looking at Korra. She sighed before replying.
Korra: "No. I have to stay and continue my training. I wanted to but I can't." She said sounding defeated.
I chuckled. I'm guessing Tenzin railed on her for even asking. I looked towards Asami and Mako whom seem slightly frustrated. I would have asked until Pema came out. She walked up to us and spoke to me.
Pema. "Tenzin railed on her for asking." I just chuckled as she continued. "He also suggests that you do not train her just yet so she can focus on air bending." I stared at her for a moment slightly surprised. Is he absolutely sure? I'd hate to just lay about and do nothing. Then I speak.
You: "Are you sure? I mean I'd hate to stay here and not be doing anything." I asked genuinely surprised he suggested this. I'd hate not to be doing anything while I'm staying here for free. That just feels like I'm exploiting them. She just smiled and nodded speaking.
Pema: "He had a feeling you'd say that. Tell you what if you're that concerned I could always use help around here. You could also sit in on their lessons so you may be better informed when you train Korra." I smiled and agreed to both. I don't mind cleaning things. It'd be a nice change of pace. Though I may need to... Learn a few things... Its been awhile since I've had a home where that kind of stuff is needed. She smiled at me and told me to meet her in the Kitchen when I get back. I nodded once again.
Pema walked off with Korra towards Tenzin. I waved them off before turning to Mako and Asami. Something tells me that they argued over something so I, like the helpful fool I tend to be asked a foolish question like the fool I am.
You: "You guys alright? I mean you guys look slightly angry." They looked at me when I said this. The both sighed slightly and looked at me. Then Asami spoke.
Asami: "No it's fine. Just a small couple spat and we are still slightly peeved." I raised an eyebrow and asked another question. What does that even mean? 'Couples Spat'. Sounds dumb.
You: "'Couples spat?' What does that mean?" Mako stifled a laugh at Asami giggled slightly. I raised my eyebrow again until Mako spoke holding in his laughter. What's so damned funny? I want to know.
Mako: "It just means we argued over something dumb. We-we'll be fine." He said as a laugh nearly escaped him. So it is dumb. Why not just say 'we argued over something dumb'. It's easier that way. Asamii just sighed and spoke again.
Asami: "We may need to explain some normal social things huh?" I blushed and looked away as she said this. It's true but did she really need to call it out. Geez. I spoke stuttering slightly.
You: "W-well t-to be fair I-I was on the road for a long time. Next to that why not just say 'small argument.' Less confusion that way." I said in my defense. Mako lost it. He was heaving in laughter, Asami laughed as well and I began to laugh. It's been awhile since I've done this. It's true I'll need some lessons when it comes to social things.
After we calmed down we headed into town. We looked through some shops until we arrived at this what I assume is a shoe store. The store's interior is a simple red and white affair. The carpet is well kept and a off white color. There are hundreds of pairs of shoes, boots, and high heels They were advertising half off on everything. I may be socially inept but I know a deal when I see one. They went and looked on their own as I looked in the boots section. I was looking and stopped in front of a pair of black boots. They seemed to have steel covering the toes and the boots went up to my calves. Asami happened to walk by as I tried them on. When I stood up I was about an inch taller but they felt amazing. I looked at her smiling. She looked at the price and they were very cheap thanks to the deal that was going on. She bought them and I hugged her tightly saying thank you over and over again. She seemed to blush when I hugged her but hugged back saying it was nothing.
As soon as we left the store I threw my old broken shoes away and boot my new boots on. Then we went to a clothes store. It was only 25% off but hey. Unlike the otehr store this one is black and shade darker blue than say Korra's outfit. It has a tile floor instead of carpet and is white. I walked in. Mako came with me to help me pick something that looks decent on me since he has a decent sense of fashion. He looks good in what he wears so it made sense to me... I looked through multiple things till I saw it. It was a long (F/C) coat. It had a darker shade of said color for the under shirt and black colored pants and black gloves. It also came with a hood for some reason. I went over to it and Mako agreed it was slick. I went and tried everything on. Asami at some point came over to where Mako was and I exited. They looked at me wide eyed. I blushed a bit. I hope it looks decent on me. I mean I know jack when it comes to style considering but still. I hope it looks nice. I then speak.
You: "How do I look?" I asked nervously. They both just stared a moment, taking in what I was wearing. The hood was not up so they could see my face. Then Mako spoke up first.
Mako: "You look awesome. I say it works on you. What do you think Asami?" He asked looking at her. She smiled, looked at him, then back at me and replied.
Asami: "You look very handsome in that. Matches your personality. Stoic and slightly cold yet caring beyond what one would imagine." She said smiling. Handsome? I've never been called that... It actually feels... Nice. I blush slightly and look away trying to hide it. They laugh a small bit at my expression.
I blushed a bit and said thanks. We looked at the price and they agreed to buy it. It was more expensive than the boots but they didn't mind. I hugged them both tightly saying thanks they again waved it off. By the time we were done it was about One in the afternoon. We agreed to get lunch. The one thing I could afford. At least if it was noodles. As we were walking I saw the same girl from when I arrived yesterday. She was crying. I told them and they followed me to her. I kneel down and gently touched her shoulder. She flinched but looked up and saw me. She smiled through the tears and hugged me tightly. I then asked.
You: "What's wrong? Did something happen? Why aren't you at the temple?" She seemed to jump at that mention. I rubbed her back to calm her. I then asked. "What's your name? You never told me." She looked at me and replied.
(???): "It-It's Olivia and I'm seven. What's yours?" She asked. She's still shaking in my arms as she spoke. Poor girl. Who. Hurt. Her? They will be punished. I replied.
You: "(First Name) (Last Name). But most call me (M/N) and I'm eighteen." I replied still holding her. She again clung to me shaking more before speaking.
Olivia: "Th-The man at the temple. H-he tried t-t-t" She began sobbing before she could finish. I hugged her a little tighter hoping to calm her. I took into account of her bruises and then spoke.
You: "What did the priest do?" She jumped at the mention. I hot the nail on the head. If he hurt her... His god won't save him from my wraith.
Olivia: "He said th-that I h-had to p-pay him back for letting me s-stay. He t-tried to t-touch me but I bit him and he hit me." I pulled her back a bit to make sure she was telling the truth. She was. I look calm... But I am fuming on the inside.
I was furious. I would've walked off to hurt if not kill that son of a bitch then, but the quivering child was my priority. I don't quite know why but I feel... Responsible for her well-being. I pick her up gently and she clings to me like her life depends on it I look towards Mako and Asami and ask.
You: "Do you guys think Tenzin and Pema would mind if she stayed at The Air Temple with me?" They shook their heads in a no fashion. Their facial expressions tell different stories to me.
Mako's facial expression was one of rage. The same one I would have if it weren't for the kid in my arms. He'd probably help hide the body if I asked. Him being an orphan he could probably relate. Asami seemed to be shocked. She's more concerned for the child. I am as well. It's why I haven't marched off yet. I gestured them towards the noodle stand. We fed her and we ate before we headed back. Once we arrive Pema came up to us and looked at the quivering child in my arms. She asked.
Pema: "Who is she and what happened?" She asked in a soft tone looking at Olivia. I replied trying to keep calm. I'm going to lose it if I'm not careful.
You: "Remember when Asami told you I fed a kid who looked like an Orphan?" She nodded. "This is her and her name is Olivia. I took her to a temple in the city where I assumed she'd be safe. She told me after I found bruised in an ally crying that the Priest tried to touch her. She fought back and he beat her. She ran after that I assume." Pema looked shocked. Then I asked. "Can you fetch Tenzin and Korra and tell them what happened? If I repeat it I may go kill the priest." She nodded rushing off. I breathed in deeply trying to calm myself.
I asked if Olivia wanted to be put down and she said no. I told her that was Pema. She only nodded. So I sat down and waited for them as I rubbed her backing humming softly. Tenzin and Korra rushed and... Well it seems I'm not the only one considering murder. Korra's face says it all. I then asked Tenzin.
You: "I know you already let me stay here and everything but can she stay to? I'll take care of her and everything." He just nodded. I thanked him, got up and went to my room. Once we arrived I set her down on my bed. She looked at me with some tears in her eyes. I don't quite know why but I wiped them away and leaned down kissing her on her head. "I'll be back in a few hours. If you need anything ask Pema okay?" She just nodded hugging me. I hugged back gently before walking off. She watched me close the door. If she was with me at that point she'd be terrified. That bastard...
I walked back into the main area. The moment I stepped in everyone knew. I'm guessing the air became hotter or energized. I went towards Asami and pulled her to the side. I told her where the Temple was and asked her to get the chief to go there with her. She agreed and I left. I went straight for the temple. It was a red oriental building but I couldn't give less of A crap. Once I arrived I went straight inside. Some woman whom I can assume to be a priestess or something tried to greet me but I went straight past her. It was currently in session I guess. The room is lined with pews and they are packed full of people listening to this 'man's' non sense. It is a white room and the pews themselves are red. I couldn't care. Though his flock is in for a shock. He was speaking.
Preist: "These benders say they were blessed by the gods and spirits of the world. I say no!! They were cursed. So someone has to save them from themselves. Someone has to speak for the gods." He finished proudly as he got applause and cheers from his flock. Damned show-boater My eye twitched in anger before I spoke loudly.
You: "And who are you to speak for the gods?" They all looked at me with shock and malice. I bet no one has ever questioned this bastard in his life. I then continued. "I'm sure the gods don't need such a person as yourself to speak for them. Look at your hobbies." I continued to speak walking up the aisle towards him. I kept looking him dead in the eye as I walked so I could scare him. It seemed to be working as I see him flinch slightly. "I'm also sure the gods don't appreciate liars, hypocrites... Or those whom harm children in any fashion what so ever." At this point I'm right up next to him mere inches from him. He is the same height as me and has grey hair. I'd wager he's in his fifties. It shows in his old face. He has extremely pale blue eyes. They are one shade away from being white. His robes are simply red with gold highlights. I then whisper right at him so the others don't hear. "Why not tell your flock what you do in your free time hm? I'm sure they'd love to know." He gets an angry expression. And replies.
Priest: "If you say I can't speak for the gods why are you?" I chuckled darkly at his statement. I can see the sweat forming on his head. Coward. I then replied.
You: "Never claimed I did. I'm speaking for Olivia." He jumps at this slightly. I smirked. He goes to hit me, because of course. I catch his fist and charge a small amount of (F/C) colored electricity in the same hand. He winces and I speak again. "How many?" He looks confused. "HOW MANY CHILDREN!!!!????" I shouted at the top of my lungs as electricity sparks from my body. He starts shaking and replies.
Preist: "I-i-i-i........ tw-tw-twenty." I heard whispers and gasps from his flock. I am unsure if this is because he tried to punch me or the fact the number is so damned high. I squeeze a bit tighter and then ask. I'm going to kill him if I'm not careful... Not that I care to damned much though.
You: "And what did you do to them?" I asked as some electricity licked his face. He shaking more violently. I'd bet he's crapped himself at this point. Coward. No wonder he picks on children.
Priest: "I-i-. Beat them and and...." I then heard gasps of shock and horror come from his now ex flock. I have to let go. I stop holding his fist. If he says the next part I'll kill him. I look at the end of the Aisle and see the chief with some officers looking furiously at the priest. He walks up to him and takes him away not bothering to check for injuries. I sit on one of the steps to calm down. Some of the flock thanked me for finding this out. I just waved them off saying it was nothing. Asami walks up to me and sits by me. She rubs my back slightly before she decides to speak.
Asami: "I honestly thought you were going to kill him. You okay? You look... drained." She asked with genuine concern in her voice. She's not wrong. I considered it. Gods did I consider it. But I chose the high road. I look at her and sigh slightly before running my fingers through my hair. I reply.
You: "Yeah. I'll be fine. It's just... I can't stand thinking that children are getting hurt, my past is responsible for that. I stopped him from speaking cause if he said what he was going to say I would have killed him on the spot. *sigh* We should head back. They'll be worried." I finished.
We stood up. After leaving the temple the Chief thanked me for finding him. Apparently they've been looking for whomever has been doing this for some time. I say it wasn't a big deal. After he walks off I sighed deeply. Asami walks in front of me and turns around. She hugs me. I was taken aback and asked.
You: "W-What?" I stuttered slightly from the sudden contact. I haven't really gotten hugs that much over the years I've been on the road so its strange. She lets go before speaking.
Asami: "That's the fourth time I've seen you do something amazingly good and you still asked for nothing. I just wanted to let you know you're a good person is all." She replied smiling. I stare at her wide eyed... No one has ever really thanked me for doing something... Its strange...
I was taken aback and pull her into another hug and say thank you. She just smiles. We let go and head back for the temple. Once we arrive I can hear Korra and Tenzin training somewhere. I'll go watch in a moment. I want to check on Olivia. I walk back to my room to see her sleeping. I walked up and crouch slightly. I pet her head. She seems to smile in her sleep. I smile slightly at this. I kiss her head before going to watch Korra train. Only my second day here and allot has happened. This is going to be fun.
