6. Enemies to friends

Well that had not been the goodbye I thought was going to happen.

I thought it was going to be filled with hugs, kisses, smiles and a lot of crying. The only thing that was featured out of those things was a singular smile. And I thought Mom loved me.

Just kidding I know she loves me but I'm not going to see her for a long time and, and I just wanted a nice goodbye.

I give a disheartening sigh.

Well I better get started on reading this book thing. I grab it flip to the front page.

I start to try and read it but by the third word the words blur together and all I can think about is how lonely I am already. I can't read this. I'm too distracted.

I put the book down with a deflated sigh. I fall back down on my bed.

Then a nock sounds at my door. It's a slow, nervous nock. I sit up.

Who could possibly want to see me?

"Come in" Inch by inch the doorknob turns.

Then the door creaks open and a head pops through.

 Its Mom.

"What are you doing here?!" I exclaim, surprised.

She gave a wistful smile and stepped fully into the room. The door closed softly behind her. "I couldn't leave my babygirl behind now could I?" She said faintly.

She spread her arms wide in a motion for a hug.

My face broke out into a grin as I rushed towards her.

Mom envelopes me in a big bear hug.

"I don't want you to go" I whisper into her shoulder. She grimaces.

"I know, I know but I'm not even supposed to be here now to you should be grateful for what you got"

 I just smile.

Mom tentatively untangled herself from my arms. I look up at her. "I guess this is goodbye for real now"

She nods.

 "Goodbye sweetie."

My lip trembles as Mom moves away from me and towards the door. As Mom slowly closes the door behind her she turns and blows me one last kiss.

The door shuts.

My hand shakes as I slowly raise my hand to catch the kiss she sent me out of the air. I raise my hand to my mouth and accept the kiss she gave. My hand trembles as I let it go limp.

"Goodbye, Mom" I whisper faintly into the emptiness. I stumble backwards and sit at the edge of my bed.

That's where I stay for the next twenty minutes.

No one comes into the room and I don't go out.

Homesickness is going to be a big problem here.

My body is still frozen when the handle of my door spins. "Mom?" I ask hopefully to the space.

The door opens and in comes a girl.

Not Mom.

The girl is alone.

Her black, curly hair and dark skin contrasted greatly with the bright, almost neon, ice blue of her eyes. She saw me looking at her. The girl straightened her shoulders, jutted her chin and stared at me straight in the eyes.

"What do you want?" Mysterious girl asked simply.

I looked down, a bit flustered.

"Nothing, I, I just thought you were someone else"

She stared at me some more before finally accepting my answer.

She sighed, though it was more of a grunt.

"I'm assuming you're going to ask my name" I hesitated before answering.

"Uh yeah actually. I'm Alina"

"I'm Medora" She said forcefully. I nod.

Okay, that's a interesting person. For sure.

"So um who were you claimed by?" No answer. That was rude and totally not necessary.

"I'm sorry but that was a bit rude if you don't want to talk just say so"

Medora sighed then looked in a little book that sat in her lap. She looked up at me.

"No, I'm sorry I shouldn't have ignored you. I was claimed by Skyra"

My mouth dropped open. How could I have not seen this before. People claimed by Skyra were said to be very strong willed. And those words described Medora perfectly.

"That's so cool! I was claimed by Veers"

The moment I said those words her opinion of me seemed to drop a mile a second.

Her mouth clenched. Her eyes flashed, menacingly.

"So I guess you're one of those goody two shoes whose rich parents own one of the temples. Wait, no, I think they own two"

 I was shocked.

"How could you think so little of me? For your information I don't even want to be here."

Medora stared at me with a bit of grudging admiration. "I guess that's something we agree on" She said.

"Yeah" I agreed.

Medora took the book out of her lap and dropped it on the bed she sitting.

Then she stood up and walked over to me. I stood up too. Medora looked at me for a few seconds before coming to a decision. Her hand raised in an act of a handshake. "Friends?" Medora asked.

I looked at her before raising my hand to shake hers.

"Friends" I said in confirmation. Medora gave me a small smile.

"We should be probably going to the assembly thing now" I whisper, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, you're probably right"

And with that we stand up and I follow my new friend out the door.

And this is my shorty chapter! By the way I literally wrote this entire thing at like eleven last night so yeah. But I am actually exited because i'm going to see the nutcracker. Well anyway hope you liked the chapter.
