Interrogation
I walked around, getting used to the heels. Hunter walked next to me on my right, and I grabbed a couple more crackers when I walked past the snack table.
I spotted James Smith about three hours in and nudged Hunter.
"I found him," I said, pointing. He looked in the direction I was pointing.
"Good job," he congratulated me. I nodded, walking in the general direction of James, but not making a direct path to him. Halfway to him, I encountered Jonah again.
"Hello again, my fine flower," he said. I sighed.
"Hello," I muttered. I heard Hunter growl deeply. I nudged him.
"Be nice" I murmured to him. He sighed, ceasing growling.
"Thanks," I told him in German. He nodded.
"Of course," he responded in German.
"Pardon me, but are you two German?" Jonah asked. We shook our heads.
"No. We studied it in college," I said.
"Oh. I took French in college," Jonah said. I looked behind him, at James. He wasn't there anymore. I cursed under my breath.
"Excuse us, Jonah," I said. He stepped aside.
"Thanks," I said. He nodded, and I pulled a glaring Hunter along behind me as I looked for James again.
"I lost him. It's all Jonah's fault. If he hadn't appeared before us, I wouldn't have lost him," I muttered to Hunter. He nodded.
"I understand," he murmured. I stuck my tongue out at him. He shook his head in amusement.
"What?" I asked. He pulled a straight face.
"Nothin'," he said. I shook my head, walking again, looking for James. I found him and started walking towards him. I crossed my fingers, hoping Jonah wouldn't pop out of nowhere again. I just needed to get this mission over with. I sighed, walking closer to James. When we reached him, I dropped into a curtsey.
"Mr. Smith. What a wonderful ball this is," I said, straightening up. He smiled, ice blue eyes peeking out from the deep brown mask.
"Why, thank you, Ms..." He prompted.
"Valdez. Daisy Valdez," I supplied.
"Ah. Yes. Ms. Valdez and Mr. Davis. What a pleasure to meet you," he said, kissing my knuckles and shaking Hunter's hand. I looked at Hunter before glancing around at everyone else. The population had thinned, and there were very few people left. Hunter exchanged glances with me. I looked around.
"There. By the column. An office that is unlocked. We'll get the information we need there," I said, looking toward my location. Hunter nodded, placing a hand over James' mouth and pulling him over to the office. I opened it, and Hunter put James down. I locked the door, moving over to James, placing my hand over his mouth.
"Keep quiet. If you make one sound without permission, I will have Hunter leave a mark on your face," I threatened. "Got it?" James nodded and I looked at Hunter. He nodded, and I pulled off my mask. With the contacts and makeup, James couldn't have known who I was, especially after all these years.
"Bind him" I told Hunter, in German. He took off his tie, tying it around one of Smith's wrists. He weaved the tie in between the bars of the chair before tying it around the other wrist. He secured it and I leaned down so I was eye level with Smith.
"Where are the headquarters of Edge Logistics Agency?" I asked. He rolled his neck.
"And why should I tell you?" I looked at Hunter.
"Put a gun to his head. He will answer me then," I said. He nodded, pulling his .22 Magnum from his hip holster and placing it against James' temple. I looked at James again.
"Where. Are. The. ELA. Headquarters?" I asked.
"If I told you, I could be executed," he said. I looked at Hunter, who cocked the gun.
"Again. Headquarters location. Plain and simple. A city and country name. Or else Hunter will blow your head off," I promised. James bared his teeth at me.
"I won't tell you, Peak scum." I slapped him.
"I am not scum. If anyone here is scum, it is you, you little-" I cut myself off before I lost control of my temper, although I already had, yelling at him in Greek. Hunter looked at me in amazement, knowing what was happening. I straightened up, turning around and raking my fingers through my hair as I struggled to calm down. I grit my teeth, taking deep breaths to calm down, which wasn't easy when I was this worked up. I growled, turning around and walking over to James.
"Where are the headquarters? I will not ask you again before I have Hunter shoot you," I growled.
He smiled. "If I'm dead, you won't get the information you need." He had a point.
"Just tell me the frickin' location before I take the gun and shoot you myself. And I won't shoot to maim, I'll shoot to kill," I promised. Hunter knocked the barrel of the gun against James' temple. James just smirked.
"Shoot me. I'd rather be dead than give up that information," he said. I growled, snatching the gun from Hunter and shooting Smith. Blood spattered my dress and Hunter's tuxedo. The door burst open. Jonah stood there, looking at us. I growled, baring my teeth and aiming the gun at him. He held up his hands.
"Woah. Point that thing somewhere else, madam," he said. I growled again, my thumb reaching for the hammer. Hunter moved over to me, placing a hand on the gun, putting it in his holster. I looked at him, my jaw clenched. He looked at me, placing a hand on one of mine.
"Rai, calm down before you hurt yourself. And you know how that worked out last time," he whispered. I growled again, storming out of the office and behind the pillar so I could call the limo.
Hunter moved over to me. I walked out to the patio of the building, where the limo would pick us up. I had tears trailing down my cheeks, and he wiped them away.
"Hey, it'll be alright," he murmured, pulling me to his chest. I buried my face in his shoulder, sobbing.
