Celeste
When we finished the ice cream, I got up and moved to lay down. It was only 1442, but I was tired. Getting yelled at by Ultimate can do that. Hunter stroked my hair, since he knew that would get me to sleep.
"I hate you," I murmured, falling into the land of unconsciousness.
The last thing I heard from him was: "No you don't."
An abyss. An abyss stood in front of me, and I had no way to cross it. I debated whether I wanted to cross it or not. There was a fire raging on the other side, and that helped me decide. But then someone came running out of the fire. Hunter. I flicked my eyes between him and the abyss, and I stepped back. He'd stopped at the edge, looking back at the fire. I ran to the ledge and jumped, falling short of the other side. I fell, flinging my arms in front of me as I tried to grab a handhold. I heard Hunter scream my name, but I was too far away from the other side to grab hold. I screamed, closing my eyes as Hunter flew past, hitting the ground with a sickening thump-crunch.
I jolted upright, panting and soaked with a cold sweat. Hunter sat on the edge of the bed, one hand on my shoulder as if he had been shaking me. I flung my arms around him, burying my face in the crook of his neck.
He stroked my back, muttering into my ear, "It's going to be alright." I pulled back, watching him through blurred vision. I felt his hands on my cheeks, thumbs wiping tears off my cheeks. "Are you okay?" He asked, and I wiped my eyes, nodding before burying my face again. He rubbed symbols into my back soothingly. "What was it?" He asked. i shook my head, one of my hands fisting into his blue t-shirt as I sobbed. I curled into his chest as he rocked, stroking my back soothingly.
My sobs quieted into hiccups before Hunter asked what the dream was about again. I sighed, looking at him. "A chasm spread between us, and I tried to jump it, failed, and fell. You jumped, falling past me and..." I trailed off, resting my forehead against his chin. "What does it mean? Hunter, you hit the ground first," I sobbed.
He tilted my head up so we were face to face. "Raiyne Leigh Night, I will do anything within my power to make sure you are safe, to get back to you," he murmured. I looked away before bringing my gaze back to his eyes.
"Hunter James Line, I'm going to hold you to that," I muttered. He smiled, kissing my forehead. I smiled, blushing slightly.
"C'mon. Let's go walk around for a bit, eh?" He asked. I nodded.
"I'd like that," I muttered. He smirked, letting me move before he stood up. He grabbed my hand, entwining my fingers with his.
As we walked through the halls of the headquarters, I figured who would probably be the replacement on the mission. I tapped on Hunter's shoulder. "Celeste. I wanna go see Stark," I muttered. He nodded, walking in the direction of Stark's quarters.
Celeste opened the door when I knocked. "Oh! Raiyne. Hunter. How nice to see you. C'mon in," she said., stepping back to let us in. hunter gestured me in and I walked in. I sat down in a chair, Hunter standing behind me. Celeste sat on the couch, right across from me. "So, what brings you to my neck of the woods?" She asked.
I sighed. "We were kicked off the mission." Her eyes widened.
"Natasha kicked you two off the mission? The two best agents she has?" I was already nodding. As a thirteen year old agent, Celeste was easily impressed. She was also the youngest agent of PUA.
"Yes. Ultimate kicked us out," Hunter muttered.
"Why?" She was also full of questions, a good trait to have in an agent.
"Because I have a bad habit of killing the ELA agents," I whispered.
"Oh," was all I heard from Celeste. I met her hazel eyes with mine, giving her a watery smile.
"Agents Night and Line report to my office." Ultimate's voice came over my earpiece. I got up, heading towards the door.
"Where are you guys going?" Celeste asked.
"Natasha wants us," I said simply. She nodded and we walked out.
Hunter held the door open for me and I walked into Sheppard's office.
"Night. Line," she said as we stepped inside.
"Sheppard," we returned.
"I know you two have harsh feelings for me after 0900 yesterday." Hunter and I nodded, knowing she wasn't apologizing. "As your superior, it's my duty to inform you that neither of the teams I sent out yesterday came back successful." I read between the lines.
"You're letting us back in the mission?" I asked. She nodded.
"PUA's intelligence is mostly dependent on you two anyway."
"You need us back on the mission," I stated. She nodded again. A grin broke out on my face. While the past day had been eventful, it wasn't a mission.
"Here are your mission folders. You depart at 1900," she said, sliding the folders across the desk.I grabbed mine, watching Natasha. "Dismissed."
I bowed my head, turning around and walking to the elevator. I stepped in, Hunter right behind me. I pressed the button for the floor with the housing apartments, giggling like crazy. I may not like killing the people, but sitting in my apartment all the time drove me stir-crazy. I needed to be out, having missions to keep me occupied.
