Chapter 6
"Uh, hi." I wave shyly as the two come back from their walk. Chelsy looked better than ever, if I was being honest. Her hair looked silky smooth, as did her skin. She was glowing, maybe she was in water?
Thanatos looked slightly damp, although Chelsy reluctantly fixed that. When moonlight shone on him, he looked better as well. Me? I guess all these conflicting elements made me look great and terrible at the same time.
"I'm cool for now. For. Now." Chelsy gives a small nod
"All I could ever ask for?" I give a weak smile.
"Well, today's been eventful. We should go to sleep." We both go to our tents.
"So... I guess I'm sleeping outside?" Thanatos grumbles. "I'm teleporting to the nearest store, see you in a minute."
~~~
I wake up before everyone else, right as the sun starts to poke into the sky.
"Might as well look through some maps."
I pull some out, most showed very specific kingdoms, with detailed landmarks. Now to decide where to next. Couldn't be too hard, right? It has always been a dream of mine to visit every kingdom, now was the chance to do so.
Antheia? (Nature) Aurora? (Wind) Sirei could be nice. Umbra (Darkness) too. (Actually, maybe not. Umbra was going through some... problems.) Or maybe Gliheth (Fire) would be best. We're near the capital, where all the kingdoms meet. It was a place of total freedom. Or at least that's what I've heard.
Every element lived there in harmony. Sounded too good to be true. But, it was basically its own mini kingdom. Might as well look around for a few days.
I hear some movement behind me and start readying a light beam. I had studied the attacks back when some mages were attacking Thanatos. (Including Chelsy) It didn't seem too hard.
"Well, look what we have here. The princess ran away from home, even changed her hair."
I was half expecting it to be Chelsy or Thanatos. I got into a battle stance, even if my magic was terrible, I had been trained in hand to hand combat by my parents since I was 5. Bad parenting on their part, but great for me.
"W-who are you?" One of them laughs, probably the leader. He was wearing a cloak, but judging by his very pale skin, he was most likely a darkness mage.
"You don't need to know, Princess. So how about you stand down and let us capture you, and any supplies you may have." I steady my breath. I just needed Chelsy and Thanatos to wake up, and everything would be fine.
"Oh, and don't worry about your little friends, they'll join us back at the hideout." They bring out Thanatos and Chelsy. They were both incased in darkness and floating midair.
A sleeping spell? That's almost impossible to wake up from. Who was the darkness mage? If I could just hit them, the spell would be broken
I scan the newcomers. A lot of them were darkness mages, just my luck. I start charging up a small light beam
Okay, now you just have to beat the one mage who did this, whoever that might be.
"I challenge you for my frien-" The whole area becomes incased in darkness. Almost like it was night again. I wobble a little, it felt like a piece of me had died. Was this how darkness mages felt during the day? How Thanatos felt?
You still have every other element, calm down.
But could I afford to let them see the other elements? Hybrids were rare. Having all the elements was, well unheard of.
No, don't risk it. Just one mage is in my way.
My light beam got bigger. Much larger than the ones I saw yesterday. "Woah Princess, calm down."
I could hear the panic in their voice. A small smile tugs on my lips. Now I could actually use this on them.
I ready myself then unleash it. The night was gone, only a few mages were left standing.
My energy felt depleted, maybe this was the strength of a new mage. I didn't think I could handle another spell, but luckily the darkness faded from Chelsy and Thanatos. They slowly open their eyes and drop to the ground.
"Ow! Where am I?" She sees me, looking absolutely terrible, and all the strangers. "Okay, I'm going to destroy them." Of course, they do just that.
~~~
"I hate this, I hate this so much." I was squirming around while Chelsy healed me, that being her second magic. Red lines appeared all over my, showing my veins and blood cells. The trademark of a blood mark healer.
I wasn't very surprised, while your second magic is almost completely random, your element and your family can also determine your second magic. Most mages had a certain second magic attached to them. Mages with the water mark or nature mark are more likely to be a healer than, let's say, a mage with the fire mark. Prophetic powers are usually given to sun or moon mages. Enchantment are usually given to mages who's mark is a branch of a element. Summoning magic is usually found in air mages. Light mages usually have shape-shifting. (My mother included) Darkness mages have teleportation most of the time. Thanatos was no exception, as I would soon learn. Fire is actually the one element that is completely random, other than familial intervening.
But either way, I felt really crappy.
"I thought you were a healer, this stings." I hissed.
"I'm also a blood mage that is sick of your bullcrap. Stay still and it'll hurt less." I try to stop moving, but it still hurt.
"Gods, we need a nature healer for this. I'm better for actual injuries, nature healers can get the herbs or whatnot." She rubs her temples. Every so often, so would take... something from the red lines and write runes all across me. It burned into my skin and hurt like hell.
"Can't you make elixirs for me?"
"I'm not that good at healing. That crap involves purification and I am not the purifying type." After a while, she just gives up.
"I gave you some energy, but there's not much I can do. I did get rid of that cut though."
"Whoop de do."
~~~
My eyes slowly open. I didn't remember falling asleep, especially not for this long. I guess I needed rest for my energy to come back.
I stand up, slightly banging my head on the top of the tent. It didn't hurt, but slightly flung my head down. I blinked and I was outside.
"Oooookay. Really keeping my blinks long there." I look up, the moon was clear in the sky. I hated this wobbly feeling, so I try to make a shield or something. I couldn't really find anything, but that matter. Another blink and I was somewhere else completely.
I look back at the sky. The eclipse. It was supposed to happen tomorrow, or I guess today. What time was it?
"I banish you to the realm of eternal night!"
"You wouldn't dare, sweetheart. Just stop the spell."
"You'd have to kill me first."
"You're dying either way, I suppose."
"I, Hope Eclipse, banish Lucifer Eclipse to the realm of eternal night. To be the sacrifice, I choose myself of my own free will."
"Hope, you know what you're asking of this. Don't you understand? I'm doing this for us, for our little Sunrise."
"I'm doing this for Sunrise. I'm doing this for Etheria."
"HOPE! STOP THIS! YOU'LL DIE!"
I didn't see anyone, almost like I was reminiscing an old memory. But, there were unspoken words, I could tell.
"I love you."
And I woke up.
