Chapter 5

"I'm not Lucifer." I move the ice away from me, but she moves it right back

"Blood relative is something I'm still not comfortable about."

"Me either, but what choice do I have?"

"Very. Little." You might say this was an overreaction on Chelsy's part, but I kinda got it. Lucifer was a period of time that no one wants to remember, but forgetting wouldn't honor the millions that lost their lives. Forgetting is letting something like that happen again.

"Woah, woah. She could just be joking. Of course that would be a terrible joke, but otherwise means that Lucifer of all people reproduced."

"By the gods! How sick do you think I am?"

"Considering your relative-"

"Okay! I get it, gods. Just put the spear down. I don't even know magic, how could I hurt you?"

"None of us know what exactly you can do. What's your second magic, huh? All of them?" I look at the ground.

"None. Thanks for that, I guess." Having no second magic was extremely rare. More rare than being a human, which were quickly being replaced with mages. In fact, it was rarer than hybrids! Hybrids only came around every so often, being a perfect mix of two elements was considered hard. Guess not, considering I have TWELVE!

"None? Well, your magic makes up for it. It also makes you powerful beyond belief, and I need to make sure you aren't a madwoman!"

"I'm... probably not? Never felt like stabbing people before so..."

"Not once?"

"You're the one trying to stab me!"

"This is different! I'm trying to stab a maybe stabber!"

"Two wrongs don't make a right!"

"It does in this case!" Chelsy pushes the spear forward, making me fall down

"Okay, okay. But why are you being so serious about this?" Chelsy narrows her eyes. "Okay, bad question. I understand that now."

"My grandparents died because of him. Most of my family died because of him."

"Oh... I... I'm sorry for your loss." Technically he died because of his own hubris, but this seemed like the wrong time.

"Your family's been in Prebia this whole time? I mean, I thought he only managed to get a few guards and the royal family in Sirei before he was defeated." Perhaps that was right, but it felt like the wrong time for Thanatos to say it.

"Ta dah, I guess. I'm the granddaughter of King Lixue and Queen Anahita. My father managed to escape the slaughter." Chelsy drops the spear.

"Oh! I've heard of them. People say they could've been the best royal family in all of Etheria. There was so much corruption back then, but Sirei prospered- I'm not helping." Thanatos shrunk back from Chelsy's glare

"I need a break." She walks away and leaves me and Thanatos alone

"Shouldn't you talk to her?"

"More than I already have? I think I'm the last person she wants to see." I go inside my tent, but hear his footsteps as he runs after her. Today felt like the longest day ever.

~~{Chelsy's POV}~~

"Stupid, stupid, stupid." Of course, the first friend I've made in a while and she's demon spawn. Friend(?), if I could even call her that. We've known each other for an hour at most. She felt nice, not horrifically mental or psychopathic.

I kick a few rocks around and find a small pond. I sit down and look at my reflection. "I never should've left home..." I guess that was my dad's words still jumbling around in my brain.

"I can't believe you're leaving our family like your damned sister!"
"I'm getting a job at the castle! They only choose a handful of girls each year, this is incredibly lucky! Why can't you just be happy for me?"
"You only care about yourself, not about this family!"
"You don't care about this family! You've never cared about this family! You even let your best friend die for you!"

I ran out that day, packing my stuff. My mom was scared and begged me to apologize. I only did it for her and my siblings. I remember when my older sister ran away and how he... lashed out on us. (Of course, I am not running away. I was still paying them. Hopefully, the king is still paying them.)

The friend part... well, how do you think he survived? His friend pretended to be him... he died instead. He hasn't worked a day in his life since, but I'm not salty. Nooo, not at all. Not when his parents felt like fucking gods and he turned out to be a selfish ass that...

Of course the nice princess girl is Lucifer's daughter and the creepy guy is actually kinda nice. Kinda, let's not be too forward here.

"Chelsy, wait!" Speak of the devil.

"What do you want?" I don't bother to turn around.

"Obviously, there were a lot of emotions back there, and I wanted to see if you were okay." He puts a hand on my shoulder, but I shrug it off.

"I don't need your help." I scowl at him

"I know. But sometimes another person can help. And two people are better than one."

"I'm better by myself. You feel more like a negative to me, so no, two people aren't better than one."

"That felt like a personal attack on me, and I've already been attacked today. I was gonna teleport away, but Luna helped. Liiiiiiiiiiiikke the good person she is."

"Spare it, I know that she's a good person, I suppose, I'm just wary." I pause for a second. "And perhaps it was a personal attack."

"Well, that would be magist."

"I am not magist, yeesh. I live in Prebia, if I was magist I would be very hypocritical."

"So, what don't you like about me then?"

"It's not exactly something you can change, and it doesn't matter anyways. You're gonna call me weird." I cross my arms, I just didn't like him. At least, I didn't trust him just yet.

"I think you're weird either way."

"Oh, shut up. I don't trust you yet, just let me be."

"So it's not blind hate, just mistrust? Guess we're gonna have to change that."

"You're gonna have to change that. I trust myself entirely."

"What if I don't trust you?"

"Do you?"

"That's not the point." I slightly laugh

"So, I guess that answers my question."

"I guess it does, but I got you to laugh." I roll my eyes

"If that is such an accomplishment, then I'll never laugh in front of you again." I crack a small smile

"I will see to it that you laugh again. I swear on my grave."

"On your grave? Considering it doesn't exist yet, hopefully, I suppose you can back out at any time." He sits down next to me

"Nah, I don't think I WILL-" I push him into the pond (Although it just felt like a slightly smaller lake with a waterfall in the distance.)

"I can dry you off, so don't worry." I bite back a giggle.

"Ooh, I saw that. Laugh!"

"I feel like you would stab me after I laugh."

"Maybe I would." He gives a sly smile before grabbing my hand and pulling me in. This time, I couldn't hold it in.

"Ha! I did it!"

"Well then, revenge!" I knock him deeper into the water, still parting it so he could breathe.

"This is definitely unfair." He rolls me over, also submerging me.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." I look over at him. His black hair mingled with the water, the moonlight shining on his pale skin and gray eyes. Stormy eyes, which wasn't common for "pure mages". Although, almost no one was an actual pure mage. Pure mages was almost a umbrella term for mages that usually had only one type of mage in their family.

"You're staring." My face flushes from embarrassment and I turn to look at the sky. The stars were bright tonight

"Uh, sorry. I just noticed your eyes."

"Oh, that's okay. My mom is a nature mage, my dad is a darkness. Persephone and Hades Midnight."

(No I am not a mythology nerd... cough.)

"Well, I'm Chelsy Torrent. Technically Cascade Torrent." A lot of mages had human names, although every mage had a mage name. Personally, I like Chelsy more than Cascade.

"Cascade... hm. Cascade isn't bad."

"I like Chelsy better, and I'm the decision maker here."

"Whatever you say, Cassie." He helps me out of the water. His hair looked okay, it really did. Although it didn't fit him, even if he looked cuter like this.

"We are not calling me Cassie."

"Cassie."

"Keep doing that and I'm not drying you." I start running ahead of him

"Wait, Chelsy!"

Maybe I could trust Luna. Maybe.
