Welcome to Good Friday. 1,990 years ago, Jesus died on the cross for our sins. So today we'll cover his final moments and death.

The first passage is Matthew 27:27-31.

Jesus is being mocked by the soldiers. Bad enough that he's about to die, they are making fun of him. His death was supposed to be humiliating. And surely, it was. It was prophesied in the Old Testament though, so it had to happen. I don't really know what else to say about this, so let's move on.

Next, look up Luke 23:44-49.

This is Jesus's crucifixion. And while Jesus is dying, a lot of things happen. Darkness comes over the land, in the middle of the day, until three in the afternoon. It had started at noon, so that was three hours of darkness in the middle of the day. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. That was really symbolic of how we don't need to do all of the things the Jews did anymore. Jesus dies, and one of the centurions (Roman officers) watching him realizes that he had just killed the Son of God. It seems like the devil has won. Jesus is dead. But that's not the end of the story. I'll cover more tomorrow.
