When I finally pull away from Dick, I start thinking clearly again.
"Dick, where do we go? We can't leave the Team here."
"My island."
"You're WHAT?" I yell.
"My island."
"Ok...how do we get everyone there? Where is it?" I ask. Dick has an island?
"We can use Bruce's Jet. It's in the middle of the Pacific. It's pretty secure, it doesn't show up on most maps, and not even the Justice League knew."
"So...what do we exactly do...?" I ask slowly.
"We need to get the Birds and the Team. If they aren't attacked yet, it's only a couple of hours until they are. We need to get to the Mountain first. The Crime Syndicate will find out about the team first."
"Well what're we waiting for?"
"We can't use the tubes. The Grid can track them."
"Shiz. So we have to drive? The Batmobile is-"
"I have my own car."
"Right. Just doesn't have the ability to turn into a helicopter or submarine." I get a good look at his suit. "Wait, so, do I still call you NightWing?"
"Yeah."
"But your suit..."
"I literally just changed the logo from blue to red."
"Let's go, go, go! We have friends to save and planes to steal!" I declare, trying to forget that the man who saved my life on several occasions is dead.

Third Person
The two protege's worked in silence. Without other team members, the bats had been trained to communicate with no sound. Simple looks were enough to convey messages.
Dick parked his car in the harbour a few kilometres from the mountain.
"No explosions. That's a good sign." He said.
"Shut up and move."

When they arrived at the secret entrance, Barbara took a few minutes to disable the speaker system. If the Crime Syndicate were inside, they didn't want their presence announced.
Once they had the all clear that there were no villains, they began the search.
"Everyone! Training room, now!" Barbara yelled over the PA. Wally arrived first.
"Would anyone care to explain why my dead beta friend is standing in front of me, and all my phone says is 'the Justice League is dead'?"
"Later. Now, follow us if you don't want to die." Dick said. Kon looked at everyone.
"Trust him." He yelled. "Go!" Although the clone of wasn't dating M'gann anymore, he grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the door.

The Birds had been unaffected by the Syndicate. But they still came with Barbara. When Dick saw Strix - Mary - he almost attacked her.
"Talon! There's a-"
"Relax, Boy Blunder. Strix is a friend."

Zinda Blake, an ex-member of the Blackhawks was flying the plane.
"Bit bigger than my old friend, but it sure feels good to be up in the air again!" Dick and Barbara sat next to each other.
"So...you worked with The Birds of Prey when I was with the Titans?"
"As Oracle." Barbara informed him.
"At least I know you were in good hands with Dinah."
"Like you cared." Barbara hissed, harsher than she meant to. "Sorry." She added.
"No, I'm sorry." He said, taking her hand. They sat in silence. Well, they were silent, but Tim and Damian were trying to kill each other, as were Artemis and Wally, Jason was talking to Hank about gun designs, and Dawn was trying to convince them that guns sucked.
"NightWing, do you think they're really dead?" Barbara muttered after a while.
"No. They're probably in some prison dimension...or something." Dick said this more for his own sake.

"Comin' in for landing!" Zinda yelled.
After everyone had fallen asleep last night, Barbara and Dick had...well...kissed. But both acted as if nothing had happened.

When they finally landed, Dinah silenced everyone with a cry. "Thank you! Now, we need to select a leader. I nominate Batgirl and NightWing." Everyone nodded. "Then it's decided. The floor is yours." I gulped.

"Well...I-we have brought you all here because Earth has been invaded by a group from an alternate universe called The Crime Syndicate." Barbara started. "Our mentors...our mentors are...inactive. We have to step up and fight for Earth." Dick interrupted.
"So, until they inevitably attack, we have to survive here. It may be for days, weeks or months."
"And just where do you propose we stay?" Zatanna yelled out. As much as Barbara and Dick hated it, they agreed they needed as many heroes on their side. Including the witch.
Dick pressed a button on his belt. The turf lifted up the palm trees and revealed a huge house built into a mountain, strangely resembling the base in a show Damian had once forced her to watch called 'Thunderbirds are Go'.

Dick's POV
Babs has been awake for twenty-four hours straight. She didn't want to risk even checking the news, or the Grid could find us. She's spent nearly every waking moment creating a remote Intranet that still had access to the outside world.

The house is huge, but we still needed to share rooms. I ended up with Babs, Tim, Jason, Damian, Stephanie and Cassandra in the master bedroom. And while Steph and Cass are lying back to back on the pull out couch, and Jason's hand lies on a gun, and Damian's on his sword, and Tim is moving restlessly, I still can't sleep. I feel too responsible for my little brothers. I have an arm around Damian, and the other around Tim and Jason. But Babs is still at her laptop, typing madly, the glow from the screen making her look almost ghost-like.
"Babs...go to sleep." I groan.
"No. I almost have it." She yawned.
"Finish it in the morning. Come rest." I say sleepily, patting to the space next to Damian.
"I am a little tired." She admitted, grabbing one of my old t-shirts and going into the bathroom to change. "Wake me up in half an hour." She whispered, lying next to Damian, her arm protectively around the ten-year-old, and her hand on my bare chest.
After a few minutes, I can hear her steady breath in time with mine.

At two in the morning, I woke up to Damian shaking me.
"Grayson!" He hissed.
"Are we under attack?" I whispered.
"No. I must know, what is a soulmate?"
"Someone you love more than anyone in the world." I said.
"The it is clear you and Gordon are soul mates, and so I shall make it my mission to 'set you up'."
"Dami, go to sleep." I moaned.
"Fine, Grayson." He said, but I could still see his eyes open. "Is he really gone? Is father really gone?" I grin a sleepy smile.
"Of course not." I whisper. "Because he's Batman."
