Chapter 3-Coney Island

We rode for a while, stopping at gas stations for snacks to eat. And, of course to empty out the growing pile of trash accumulating at our feet. It always went like this: we would stop at a station, an assistant would come to help us, and we would give them our trash. It was funny to see them and their faces when they realized that they had to throw all that away;Every single bit their faces look like fish. Very shocked fish. If a fish can look shocked...

And then their faces return to looks of sympathy when they saw all the snacks we bought afterwards. Sympathy for the next workers at the next station who had to deal with us. Julius laughed heartily at them he thought it was funny to see their faces like that. He told me that he didn't know faces could do that.

Finally we reach New York and then we boarded the ship to Coney Island. We decided that after today we would see if we wanted to stay longer than one day.

The first thing we did was go to the boardwalk which was really the only attraction. But there were many things on it. I could tell that it was going to be closed down soon. Many of the buildings were burned out or closed. Julius still liked it though so I liked it too. He wanted to go on the parachute jump but the workers wouldn't let him because of his medical condition. He looked so sad that I almost punched the workers. Oops.

It was made up for him when the B&B workers let him ride the carousel regardless. We rode two horses side-by-side, grinning at each other whenever the horses lifted us to grinning at each other whenever the horses lifted us to the same height. After that we ate at Carolina's Italian restaurant. He ordered something called the tour of Italy, I just got ravioli. We ended up eating his meal together because it was so big. He seemed very happy, though. I was glad. This whole trip was for him.

It was getting late so we booked a motel. It only came with one bed but we had slept in the same bed before, so we didn't mind. As we sat together on the bed, reading a batman comic, he told me he was disappointed. He thought there would be more to do, and more to see, but he told me that, regardless he liked it and that he couldn't believe we were actually doing this. I reassured him that Las Vegas would be much more fun. We fell asleep side by side just like how we had rode on the carrousel.  Our leather jackets hung on the door as we snored softly. Or at least while Julius snored softly. I lay watching him for a very long time hoping he was happy and hoping he wouldn't die at all...

I guess I'm just selfish that way.
