The next morning
Zena's POV
I awoke when I felt someone shaking me,
"We're leaving, get up." I opened my eyes to see a pair of blue eyes staring back at me. I couldn't seem to form words and I felt the pulling in my gut again, I had felt it last night as well.
"O-Okay..." I said and sat up, I felt his gaze on me still. I didn't feel uncomfortable, but I felt aroused.... I let out a breath that I was holding when he walked away.
Thorin's POV
I woke up before everyone as usual and looked over at the girl that was asleep on the halfling's couch. Her ears twitched as she slept, it was actually quite adorab- No no no, I cannot think like that. There is a quest at hand and I will not tolerate any distractions.
If she proves to be a distraction, then she will have to leave the Company. No matter who she is related to.
I started to wake my Company up and went over to Zena as they got ready to leave. I shook her until I heard the change in her breathing, signaling she was awake.
"We're leaving, get up." I said, I had to fight against my heart tightening some when her eyes fluttered open and she looked at me with big violet eyes. She stayed quiet for a while, I could see she had trouble forming words right now. Maybe she couldn't form words when she woke up in the mornings?
"O-Okay..." She finally said and sat up. I still looked at her, the way her sandy blonde hair flowed down her back made her even more beauti- Stop thinking that way, Thorin! You have to reclaim the Mountain from the dragon.
I stood and walked outside for some air, I ran a hand through my hair and sighed.
"Everything alright?" Dwalin asked behind me, I nodded.
"Yea, just can't wait to kill the dragon." It was the truth, but I partly lied. Dwalin obviously noticed because he sighed and walked to be beside me.
"Is it the girl?" I stayed quiet, Dwalin looked at me, "Could it be possible that-"
"We need to get moving." I interrupted him and went back inside to see if everyone was ready.
An hour later
Bilbo's POV
There was something nagging at me in the back of my mind telling me to go. I've been sitting in the sitting room ever since Thorin and his Company with that Zena girl and Gandalf left.
I sighed heavily, got dressed fully, and pack a pack before running out of my comfy Hobbit Hole with the signed contract in hand.
Zena's POV
I was a little sad that Bilbo didn't come with us, I was looking forward to having him to talk to.
I rode next to Fili and Kili on a Pony and looked at the trees as we passed them,
"What do you shift into?" Kili suddenly asked and pulled me from my thoughts.
"A Saber Tooth Cat." I said and looked at him, he stared at me wide-eyed.
"Seriously?" Fili asked doubtfully. I nodded,
"Do not doubt, Master Dwarf, she does indeed shift into that creature." Gandalf said from up ahead. My ears turned back when I heard someone shouting, Thorin obviously heard it because he stopped the Company.
General POV
A few moments later a breathless Hobbit ran up and almost collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.
"I....I signed it..." He panted out and handed the contract to Balin. Balin looked the contract over and nodded,
"Everything seems to be in order. Welcome to the Company of Thorin Oakenshield." Balin said and rolled the contract up before putting it in his saddle bag.
"Get him a Pony." Thorin said as he waited impatiently.
"No no no, I-I'm fine walking." He said stuttering. Zena had gotten off her Pony and whispered something to Fili and Kili, they nodded and rode towards the Hobbit. They both grabbed hold of his shoulders and placed him on Zena's Pony,
"Are you fine walking, Lass?" Kili asked as he held the reins to the Pony Bilbo was clutching onto.
"Who said anything about walking?" She said with a smirk and shifted into her traveling Saber Cat Form, it was the size of a medium Warg.
"Mahal that's her Saber Form?!" Kili and Fili exclaimed, Gandalf chuckled as he followed Thorin as the Company began to move.
"Yes, but that's her traveling form. Her fighting form is much larger, but she can't stay in it long because she can't control it. She can't tell the difference between Friend or Foe in her fighting form." Gandalf said and looked at Zena who walked by him, he reached down and rubbed her head, resulting in a long purr.
Thorin glanced over at Zena and Gandalf before glancing over at Dwalin.
"You're still doubting it, aren't you." The bald Dwarf said. Thorin looked ahead and picked up his pace,
"I have no idea what your talking about." He replied, although he was lying to himself. He knew what Dwalin was talking about, he just didn't want to admit it.
Hours later
Thorin's POV
We had been walking nonstop since we left the Halfling's home. I looked back at everyone, they seemed fine. Then I looked down at Zena who had been walking by Gandalf's side this entire time, she looked tired and like she would collapse at any moment. Gandalf noticed me looking at her and I thought I saw a smile on his face, but he had looked down at her before I could see.
"Zena my dear, are you alright?" He asked concerned. Zena only grunted and moved her head in a nod, she was also panting some.
"You don't look alright." The Halfling said worried from behind Gandalf. She only huffed and nodded again. I looked back ahead, it was night and we couldn't see that well anyway.
We reached a small cliff and I held up my hand for us to stop. Zena collapsed onto the dirt as soon as we did. Everyone got off the Ponies and they were tied up to a few trees.
Zena had shifted back to her normal form and I watched as she walked over to Ori and helped him with the fire.
Zena's POV
A little while after I helped Ori with the fire and we ate some stew that was made, I sat next to Bilbo and looked into the fire. I jumped when screeching a few miles away was heard, I shifted into my Cub Form and cowered in a pack I had ran into.
"What was that?!" Bilbo asked as he got me out of the pack and held me.
"Orcs." Kili said. Bilbo held me closer when I started to shake, I buried my face in the crook of his arm.
"Aye, throat cutters. Must be dozens of them out there." Fili said as he sharpened his dagger. I let out a kitten whimper and shook violently. Bilbo sat back down and started to pet my back.
"They strike in the wee hours of the night when everyone's asleep. No cries or screams, just lots of blood." Kili said, for some reason there was slight amusement in the brothers voices. Bilbo glared at them when I let out a small cry, I had shifted back human and was curled into a ball on his lap. I gripped his tunic and had my eyes squeezed shut.
General POV
(WARNING! RAPE TRIGGER AHEAD! RAPE IS A SERIOUS THIS THAT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY! IF YOU HAVE BEEN RAPED, I AM SORRY FOR PUTTING THIS SITUATION IN HERE. IF YOU HAVE BEEN RAPED BY A PERSON YOU KNOW AND HAVEN'T GONE TO THE POLICE, YOU SHOULD.)
"You think that's funny?! You think a night raid by the Orcs is a joke?!" Zena hissed and looked at them as hot tears streamed down her face. Fili and Kili looked at Zena with guilt,
"We didn't mean anything by it..."
"No, you didn't." Thorin growled and stormed past them, "You know nothing of the world."
Fili and Kili now looked extremely guilty.
"Don't mind him, Lads. Thorin has more reason than most to hate the Orcs." Balin said. Zena looked at the older dwarf,
"Was he ever raped multiple times by the vile creatures and kept in a cage?" She said harshly, more tears spilling down her face. Thorin froze and looked back at her, she gripped Bilbo's tunic more. A deadly silence followed her words as every Dwarf stared at her with wide eyes. Gandalf looked at his daughter sadly,
"The thing about female Skin-Changers, is that until they find their Mate.... They can't lose their virginity, no matter how many times they had sexual intercourse. The Orcs are the one race that seems to know this." She said after a few more seconds of silence.
"I had left the house to run in the woods, I asked Da before I did. I was ambushed deep in the woods and taken back to their camp. Azog the Defiler was of course there, he was the one that raped me more than the others.... I-I had lost so much blood that I was sure I was going to die..." She said in a choked sob before squeezing her eyes shut and crying into Bilbo's chest. Bilbo rubbed her back as he glanced at all the Dwarves. Their faces showed anger, pity, and disgust, they were disgusted at what the Orcs did.
"H-How did you escape?" Thorin asked as he walked back to the Company.
"I was the one that got her with her biological mother's brother." Gandalf said, fighting to keep his voice from cracking. Zena visibly shook and Bilbo felt his heart ache for her, yes they just met, but he felt the urge to be there for her and protect her. Which was why he chased after the Company.
"Just you two alone?" Kili asked the Wizard. Gandalf shook his head,
"No, but you wouldn't believe me if I told you." The Wizard said with a slight chuckle.
"Try us." Thorin said.
"Lord Elrond of Rivendell is her uncle. Zena is part Elf." Thorin looked at Zena and now saw the way her feline ears are pointed at the tips. She looked at him with puffy red eyes.
(WARNING IS OVER.)
"I knew my mother was Elf, I didn't say anything yesterday when we met because I know the hatred the Dwarves have towards the Elves." She said quietly and looked at the other Dwarves. Thorin only walked to the edge of the cliff away from everyone and looked out among the trees.
"What happened that made Thorin hate the Orcs as much as me?". Zena asked Balin as she wiped her face, not moving from the Hobbit's lap because she wanted to be close to someone at the moment. Bilbo didn't mind, but looked at Gandalf to make sure it was fine. Gandalf gave him a small smile and nodded a little. Bilbo wrapped his arms around Zena's waist and listened to Balin as he told the story of Azog beheading Thorin's grandfather and swore to wipe out the line of Durin.
(Can't remember if it was grandfather or father)
It didn't surprise Zena at all, she listened intently as she leaned back against Bilbo, said Hobbit was resting his head on her shoulder.
"We were Leaderless." Balin continued. "That is when I saw him. A young Dwarf Prince facing down the pale Orc. He stood alone, his armor went and using an oak branch as a shield. He cut off the Orc's hand and Azog the Defiler learned that day that the line of Durin would not be broken so easily."
"What happened next?" Fili and Kili asked.
"Well we fought back and our enemy was Defeated.... But there was no feast.... no song that night. For we were in grief, we few that had survived. I thought to myself, there was only one who I could follow. There's only one.... who I could call King." Zena, Bilbo, and Fili and Kili looked at Thorin who had his back to them.
"What happened to him, Azog, what happened?" Bilbo asked as he looked back at Balin.
"The filth crawled back into the hole he came from. He died from his wounds long ago." Thorin said walking back over to the fire.
"Lass how old are you?" Dwalin asked looking at Zena.
"126, sir." She replied with a small yawn. Dwalin and Thorin exchanged looks before the bald Dwarf looked back at the girl.
"And...When did that happen to you?"
"20 years ago." She said and moved to sit next to Bilbo, she leaned on him again. Thorin stood straighter,
"Everyone get some rest. We leave early tomorrow." The Dwarves nodded and started to go lay down on their bedrolls.
"I'll keep watch." Zena said and stood, she started to walk to a tree to get a better vantage point before stumbling some, only to have strong arms grab her waist before she fell fully.
"No. Lay down, the Halfling will keep watch." Zena turned to see Thorin,
"I'm not even-" She was interrupted by a yawn "-tired. I'm fine."
"Are you arguing with me?" Thorin asked with a raised brow.
"Yes I am." Zena said with a nod. Thorin huffed,
"You are clearly tired. Go lay down. Now." He said slowly.
"But-"
"Zena, its fine. I'll keep watch." Bilbo said as he walked up. She shook her head,
"Bilbo, I want to keep watch. I'm not tired." She said and kept back another yawn. She was really tired.
"Yes you are, I can see it. Now go lay down." Bilbo said sternly.
"But-" It was Gandalf's turn to interrupt her.
"Zena. Now." He said in a fatherly tone. Her ears flattened and she hung her head,
"Yes sir." She mumbled quickly before going and laying down on a bedroll in between Fili and Kili. Bilbo and Thorin just looked at each other in amusement before the Hobbit went to the tree she had been going to and kept watch.
