Where's Zuma?

Ryder was fixing his and the pups dinners when Rocky came in and yanked on his pantleg.

"Ryder, have you seen Zuma? We agreed to play Pup Pup Boogie together once he got back from the beach, but I can't find him anywhere."

Ryder looked down at the pup and then looked around the room. "Hm, I don't know where Zuma is. But we'll find him, I'll just call his pup tag and..."

"Ryder! Ryder! Come quick!" Came Marshall's shouts from outside. "A monster has landed in the yard and is looking at Skye! I think it's hungry!"

Rocky and Ryder exchanged glances then darted to the front lawn. What Marshall said was true, the large dragon was sitting on the grass and holding Skye in it's claws.

"Help me! I don't want to be eaten!" She screamed as the dragon slowly brought her closer to his mouth.

Chase saw Ryder and ran up to him. "Ryder, sir, what are we to do? What's your plan to save Skye?"

Ryder sadly looked at his pup. "I don't have one, Chase."

"But, Ryder..."

"I'm sorry, buddy. But I have no idea what can stop a dragon, they're not supposed to exist."

"Then I have a plan!" Chase said, and ran to the dragon's foot.

He lept in the air and came down, biting his hardest into the scalely paw. The Dragon dropped Skye, whom Chase caught, and held its bitten foot. They it fell to the ground... crying?

"Chase, you saved me from that horrid, ugly, disgusting, mean, vicious..." She stopped as the dragon's cries intensified.

Rocky slowly walked to the dragon's face, and heard what it said.

"It's not fair! Why do I get bit? I wasn't huwrting Skye, I was going to tell her what happened. Waaaaa- ha ha! Waaaa!"

"Zuma?"

Zuma opened his eyes and saw Rocky looking at him.
"Is that you?"

"Wocky? Y-yeah, it's me. Sowry I scawred evewryone, I somehow got tuwrned into a dwragon. But I guess you don't like me anymowre, any of you. (Whimper)"

"Zuma," Ryder said, making the dragon lift his head from its resting place on top of his paws. "Do you know what might have caused this, transfomation? Anything out of the ordinary happen to you?"

"Well, I did find this awsome necklace under the sea. It's got a gnarly tooth on it. See? It's awround my neck." Zuma pointed to the necklace with a claw.

Everest, who had been standing next to her buddy Skye, ran up as soon as she saw the trinket.

"Zuma!" She shouted, and he looked down at her. "The necklace did this. I know it because of the book I've been reading with Mrs. Marjorie. It's called the Dragon-Fang Necklace."

Zuma looked at her with glimmering eyes. "Evewrest, I could kiss you. If you've been wreading about it, then how do I change back?"

Her smile melted into a frown, and she shuffled her paws. Then she slowly answered Zuma.

"Um, well, the book says that the necklace is actually, kinda, cursed... so, ah, you can't really ever take it off."

Now Zuma's smile melted away, but it was replaced with anger. He looked at the tooth and began to bite at it. When that did nothing, he clawed it, then spit fire on it, but every time it was unchanged. Everest regained his attention by nipping his foot, gently.

"Zuma, while the book said that you can't take it off, it did say that you can change back and forth; you know, from dragon to pup?"

He stopped fidgeting the necklace and tilted his head. The others all looked at Everest, then Ryder broke the silence.

"Do you know how he does this, Everest?"

"I sure do! All you do, Zuma, is hold the tooth in your paw and picture yourself as a pup. Then say, um... oh, yeah, then you say 'wings and scales to puppy dog tail, my true form returns without fail'. Got it?"

"Totally, Dudette. Wings and scales to puppy dog tail, my twrue fowrm wretuwrns without fail." In a puff of smoke, Zuma stood as a pup once more.

He was so happy that he jumped for joy, as his friends all ran up and gave him the biggest group hug he'd ever received.

"Well, that certainly was exciting, wasn't it pups? But I say we all go in and eat our dinner, before it gets cold." Ryder said, and they all laughed as he led the way into the Lookout.

Epilogue:

The pups were sitting in the play area watching Apollo the Super Pup, Zuma walked quietly to Everest and tapped her on the side. She looked in his direction and mouthed "what?", so as not to disturb the others. Zuma motioned for her to follow him into the kitchen to talk. Once there, Zuma spoke first.

"Evewrest, I weally appwreciate what you did for me. You wewre pwretty much the only one who believed me; even Wocky didn't believe me..."

Everest wrapped her paws around Zuma's neck and embraced him with a kind hug.

"Zuma, of course I'd believe you; plus, how often do you meet a Dragon!? Still, I'd do it again. My friends mean the most to me."

Zuma now had tears in his eyes from Everest's story, but wiped them away.

"Evewrest, wow, I-I-I don't even know what to say." He stammered.

"How about something like 'Everest, I'll fly you around on my back whenever you want.', doesn't that sound good to you?" She giggled as Zuma rolled his eyes.

And so it was that the pup who could be a Dragon found that no matter what may happen, you're true friends will always help you through.

The End...

Not. Zuma shall have many more adventures in Adventure Bay, as a dragon-pup!
