TEASERS
"Satan's Ghost" was written as a short story challenge. It explores Ellette's past, mainly her teen-aged years. It is something of a dark fairy tale and doesn't really cover much about DreamWalking.
TEASER: Haunted by a past she can't seem to escape, Ellette has resorted to silence. Sucked into the depths of her own mind, the only way in which she expresses herself is through her journal.
This story is interwoven with a twisted tale of little red riding hood, the evil huntsman and the moon.
"Breathing Underwater" further explores Rand's past and the point at which it takes a turn for the worse.
TEASER: It is time to drown my sorrows, to fight against the waves of memories that threaten to pull me down. They start in small swells, lapping at my toes, wetting the cuffs of my pants. There is no undertow, not at this point. There is no real strength to the pull.
Drink after drink, I sink. I’m at the bottom now, the light flicking through the depths. Memories rise, bright jewel-like bubbles. I remember.
I remember her and all we had.
"I Met You in a Dream" is the second story in which Ellette appears and covers more of her life and introduces her friend, Rand.
TEASER: "My dreams have always been vivid, and I could always control them, mostly. I always knew I was dreaming. You were a dream, but I'm not dreaming now." The words tumbled out one after another. "If all my dreams have been real, and I just thought I was dreaming..." It only made her head ache worse to think of the possibilities.
"Finding Respite" is the third story that covers her 'dreamwalking' abilities in more detail. It is a slightly darker story, and can be paranormal/urban fantasy.
TEASER: Ellette's dreams are unnaturally real. For the most part, it is a gift, until the dreams overlap into her reality in a way she cannot control.
"Eclipsing Depths" It is a fairly dark story, and can be categorized Thriller/Paranormal and possibly horror. It is the longest of the DreamWalker stories. It explores more about Ellette and Rand's relationship and reveals a bit more about Rand and his past.
TEASER: Ellette is blessed with a strange talent that calls her into the night to play vigilante. Tonight is one of those nights. Alone in the eerie cold and haze, she is drawn by the moon to walk along the river's edge. A river which may prove to be little more than a casket of churning ice.
"Streaming" This was kind of a strange piece for me, written very quickly from Rand's point of view. It's non-linear and deals with a bit of Ellette and Dani's relationship. It's melodramatic and a bit sappy, but was fun to write. For those hoping for a bit of romance in the storyline, this is the closest hint so far. It takes place in early spring after "Eclipsing Depths."
TEASER: In each life, there are secrets, pasts and unknowns. Loving someone doesn't always mean you know them or their darkest secrets. Loving them is the easy part. Allowing yourself to be loved, to forgive yourself, is another matter entirely.
"Try," "As Crippled as they Were," and "First Kiss" are a series of shorts exploring Ellette and Rand's deepening relationship. Ellette is coming to terms with her past and accepting what Rand means to her and the potential of a relationship.
