Chapter 9- On Edge

The face staring back at Madison was that of a woman with dirty blonde hair. It also had mousy brown eyes, a small nose, visible cheekbones, and a smooth chin. Above the thin lips laid a tiny beauty mark.

"Me?"

Her mind went blank. Eventually, she came to and remembered that Aidan gave her his phone number in another email. Madison quickly dialed it.

"Come on, come on!"

After six rings, Aidan picked up.

"Hello?"

"Aidan? It's Madison."

"How are you doing?"

"Something's come up."

"Oh? What happened?" Aidan asked, concerned.

"Do you remember the face that appeared in my living room picture? I managed to make it clearer, and it's..." Madison said before trailing off.

"Yes? What is it?"

Madison mustered up the courage to answer, "Me."

A few seconds passed. "You? What are you talking about?" Aidan inquired.

"It's me! It has everything, my hair, my eyes, even my beauty mark! EVERYTHING!" Madison exclaimed, beginning to lose her composure.

"Are you certain it's you?"

"Aidan, are you serious? Listen to me! Does it sound like I'm making this up? You think I don't know my own GODDAMN FACE?!"

"Miss Greenwood, you need to relax."

"How the FUCK can I relax?! I have never been so terrified in my life!" Madison started crying.

"Ma'am, I need you to stay with me."

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you," Madison said through tears. She took some deep breaths before resuming. "I don't know what to do. I think all these things may be warnings, like you said last night."

"If, well, your future self is trying to warn you about something, I think it is best to stay put for now. Be careful of your surroundings. That's all I can say."

What Aidan said provided some comfort, but Madison still felt scared. Wiping her tears away, she decided to wrap the conversation up quickly. "Thank you for your help. Goodbye."

"Goodbye."
