Chapter 9

Y/n Pov

After hours of walking we finally reached the bridge that connected the two island halfs. "I can't understand how we walked for 4 hours if this island isn't even that huge to begin with." Cana stated in annoyance and crossed her arms. "Its not my fault that the path went into nowhere and we had to blindly search for it." I replied and looked up to see the temple further behind.

A cold chill went down my spine as I thought of what this temple could have been used to on such a remote island. Human sacrifices or forbidden rituals in the past? I could only shudder from the possible answer.

Cana stopped me and pulled out her cards. "Lets see what my cards are going to say, usually they tell what is going to happen." She stated and I gave her a curious look. "You mean fortune telling." I replied and she huffed. "Not that but close." She replied and sat down laying the cards on the ground.

I sat down right in front while she was looking at the cards for several seconds with Wendy looking over her shoulder curiously. "I wonder how this works." She stated and gazed down to Cana's cards.

Cana turned the cards around showing a monster a shrine and a magic circle. She placed her hand on her chin and thought for a while. "Hmm this could indeed be something to worry about." She whispered and then pointed to the cards. "There is something inside which could be way too dangerous for us to handle but that's only what I can read on the cards, I have no idea what it is." She spoke and stood up slowly.

Bill flew in front of me and Wendy was behind me while Cana was at the end. I went ahead of us to check on the area but stepped on something. "Get down Wendy." Cana yelled and pushed her aside making her crash on me before a tree that was falling down on us could crush her. I looked up to Cana that was right above me with her eyes . "Are you okay?" She asked with worry and we both nodded. "Yes, thank you Cana." Wendy replied and got up quickly.

I looked to the tree seeing that it was bound on two ropes. "Whatever it was that build this trap surely doesn't want us to come here and see what happens." I spoke and Cana stopped me. "We should look where we are going, this trap was activated by you stepping on it, no doubt someone could be here already." She stated and I was still looking at her.

"We should scout the area around the temple and inside of it out before doing something and then head back to the village to think of a plan." I stated and Cana nodded. She placed her hands on her hips. "I agree, the worst we can do is blindly jump into what lies behind there." She replied with a smile at me.

I couldn't wait what we will find out inside of that temple, I was desperately hoping for any sort of clue to my dragons whereabouts, but the chances were slim if not none to begin with.

I clenched my hand and looked up to the temple ahead. "I hope the punishment we will get is worth what we will find here." I stated and Wendy let out a shriek. "I don't want to be punished!" She yelled and Cana immediately placed her hand on Wendy's mouth. "Don't scream around, we might get unwanted attention." She warned and Wendy panicked a little.

A large stone door was open which used to have the temple closed off when it wasn't used. "Should we split up?" I asked and Cana shook her head. "Not for now, maybe later." She replied and we turned to the right as a path seemed to go around the temple.

Wendy walked in front of us while Cana grabbed my hand. "Y/n there is something I'd like to ask you about." She stated and I looked over to her. She looked quite nervously at me. Her cheeks had a pink color on them. "In a few days the Magnolia harvest festival is going to start and I'd like to ask you to accompany me on the market where all the people are always going around, I heard its something special when you go there together." She stated and then looked away.

I pondered on the idea she gave me. The harvest festival is one of the most amazing attractions in Magnolia, through all of Fiore people know it and a lot of couples go there, it is supposed to be quite romantic too when you see the cherry blossom trees. "Ok I will go with you to it." I stated and Cana gave me a beaming smile. "Thank you this means a lot to me." She replied happily.

I felt a sudden skip in my heart when I saw her give me that smile. I couldn't understand how her smile alone was making me feel so warm and giddy inside. "Hey Y/n are you ok you seem spaced out." Bill asked and I shook my head.

"I'm alright just was a little distracted." I replied and placed my hands in the pockets of my pants.

I took a look towards the sun and it showed already after midday maybe even close to late afternoon. "Y/n I found something." Cana exclaimed and waved me towards her.

I took a faster pace and she pointed towards a smaller door. Inside of it we noticed several different objects. "What are those." I asked in wonder and stepped inside. I stopped in my tracks when I got a good look at them. Knifes, scissors and saws, bandages and a strangely shaped knife with a 30 degree bent. Cana walked right up to me with her right hand placed under her chin. "I think those are used to embalm the dead or to cut of limbs too." She stated and Wendy let out a shocked gasp.

I turned to leave the small room before Carla took hold of my leg. I stared down at her. "Y/n, we need to leave, I just got a vision and if we enter the crypt something horrible is going to happen." She stated in terror.

I gave her a worried look. "What exactly did you see?" I asked and she shivered. "The whole temple being destroyed and on fire, Cana and you are injured badly, that's all." She replied and I leaned on the wall.

"We can't turn back, we've already gone too far." Cana exclaimed and I nodded. "We are too far into this and we have to help the people of the island, besides we fought in a war and survived, this can't be worse." Wendy added and gave us a smile.

. . .

A narrow staircase covered in moss was everything we saw right now as we walked down on it. The staircase was lit by small crystals on the ceiling giving us enough light to see. "What do you think we will find down there?" Cana asked in wonder.

"I don't know, but whatever it is its better worth the risk." I replied and Bill nodded. "If we get punished it should be worth it."

I gazed back in front and realized we now reached the end of the stairs as a large cave was right in front of us, filled with large crystals that gave off light.

Cana grabbed my arm and turned me around, she gave me a concerned look. "As soon as we know what's down here we get back to the village and take on a plan, we can't run in without a plan." She stated and squeezed my arm lightly before letting go. "I don't want to see a guild member hurt." She whispered barely audible.

I made her look at me by getting her attention. "Don't worry it wont happen Cana and we get back to the village after we finished to see what is down here." I replied and smiled at her.

Wendy passed right beside us before standing there frozen looking to the left. She swiftly covered behind the rock the passed. "G-guys we should leave right now." She whispered and pointed to what she saw. "There is a dragon encased in ice right there." She spoke and we covered at the corner looking at it.

Cana's and my mouth opened in shock. It was a giant green dragon. "How can this be inside here, I mean we are bellow the sea level and this is in a cave." She stated and we both looked towards the ceiling looking for the possible answer. We found a hole in the ceiling and right above the hole we could see stone blocks. "Looks like someone fought this dragon 400 years ago and gave him this ice prison for eternity." I stated and walked closer to it.

Cana grabbed me quickly by the hand. "Are you crazy, who knows what happens if we get near that thing." She hissed and tried to pull me back. lets get back to the village." She added and pointed to the staircase.

I shook my head. "Not now, I want to check something, I'll be done quickly don't worry." I stated and she let go slowly.

I turned my head back to the encased dragon walking cautiously towards it. I had a feeling like I could know this magic. I placed my hand on the ice but I couldn't feel anything I could feel it was ice but something else was there too, was the person who did this barrier using two elements or were there two mages sealing him, the ice didn't melt on just pure heat or else I could feel my hand become wet on contact, maybe they crystalized the ice. The dragon right behind it had its head right at my level, its sharp eyes stared right at me. I knew something wasn't right with it. "This dragon isn't dead." I whispered and I felt Wendy and Cana walk up to me. "You mean this dragon is alive?" Wendy asked slightly scarex and I nodded slowly.

"Yes I do believe he is alive, even 400 years later." I exclaimed and Wendy shuddered. "You heard that." I stated silently and we turned to a small cave entrance. We noticed footsteps and quickly hid behind a pair of large rocks.

"All this trouble for this oversized lizard, I sure hope we wont take too long anymore." A person with a black cloak spoke and at his side was someone else with a mask. "Don't worry we will be done melting this ice soon, the ceremony will soon be over and our master can finally prove that not just true dragon slayers can kill a dragon but someone who got a lacrima can too." He replied and they stopped right at the dragon to look at it. "I still can't believe this dragon is alive after 400 years but the Dragon Priest did say its heart is still beating."

"Whatever lets get back to the ceremony before they think we went for a walk." The cloaked guy scoffed and they turned to leave again.

We waited a little longer before walking out of our hiding place. "Lets go back to the village and get a plan ready." I said and Cana nodded.

We headed quickly up to the stairs we came from getting out of the temple. "Its soon going to get dark, we need to hurry if we want to get there in time without being blind in the dark." Cana stated.

I turned my gaze to the moon. "Its almost full moon so we might see enough." I replied and Cana nodded. Wendy pulled on my arm making me look at her. I raised an eybrow. "Y/n I'm certain Irene is already on her way, maybe we should wait until she comes so we can get this over easy, she's the one who knows all about our dragon slayer magic and the dragons she had to fight." Wendy stated.

We all heard something come towards us and I pushed Cana and Bill aside before I was hit by something hard and knocked against a tree. I opened my eyes to see the same cloaked person which I saw down there. "Looks like our intruders got caught." He mocked and moved his coat aside. "You'll be done and that brunette card mage of yours will be done soon too, no one wins against Yun." He stated and I looked to my right to see Cana and Bill weren't where I thought she'd be. A large hole was in the trees next to me.

Cana Pov

I got smacked towards the beach by a huge arm and let out a groan, when I stopped skidding on the beach I noticed Bill also drop right next to me. I looked up and saw a woman walk slowly to me. "I'm honored to face a Fairy Tail wizard and you will not hinder the Dragon Priest." She spoke and I got back up.

I smirked at her. "I really wanna know why you are on this island." I stated and pulled out my cards. "Like I'd tell you of our plan to defeat the dragon to show the Dragon slayers someone with a lacrima can beat a dragon too." She replied and I gave her a dumbstruck look.

"You just did." I yelled and she gave me a glare before her hand grew again and attacked me by throwing it at me. I jumped away and cursed, she was a close combat fighter and I need to keep away from her. Only Y/n and Wendy, maybe Carla could face her but I can't do it head on.

I felt something grab me and I looked back to see Bill hold me and pull me up. "I'll help you." She yelled and I nodded. "Yeah lets beat her." I shouted and took three cards of my deck. I threw a bunch of them which cut into her skin like knifes making her yell up in pain and curse at me.

"You damn bitch I'll beat you up." She yelled and I smirked. "Watch your tongue." I replied and grabbed again the next bunch of cards. "Set me up right above her." I exclaimed and Bill nodded. "Lighting cards." I yelled and threw them down at her in a circle. Bill flew away and turned around right to see the enemy be hit by the magic attack. She dropped to the ground and Bill landed.

"We did it." She yelled and we high fived. "Yes we did, great job Bill." I exclaimed and hugged her. "Do you think I'm defeated so easily." A voice said and we turned to the enemy slowly standing up. She glared at me and wanted to attack us before she could a hit from behind caused her to drop unconscious.

Scarlet hair dangled from the sides of silver armor and a staff was held in one hand. I let out a happy gasp. "It's Irene thank you." I yelled before I saw her cold deadly glare. I froze on the spot, right I forgot Wendy warned us and she's mad at us breaking the guilds rules and taking an S class request without at least talking to her about it. "I'm gonna go." Bill yelled and flew away quickly. "You damn traitor." I hissed angrily.

Irene looked towards her and she knelt down before a second later she was up there where Bill flew away and grabbed her by the tail. "You are going to be punished too." She yelled and landed right next to me holding Bill and glaring at me.

"Explain yourself and I might not punish you right here." She stated and pointed her staff at me. I was scared like never before, her staff can change into any weapon she sees fit, a sword an axe a hammer, you name it she can do it. She just enchants it. "We wanted to get to this island as soon as possible and I wanted to talk to you about the S class job but we had no time and just got going." I replied nervously and she let out a sigh. A rope appeared in her hand and she gave us a cold glare.

This is it for this chapter, I hope it got quite interesting and I could build up enough suspense for the next chapter. Irene and Erza probably have a similar character and I will try my best at making the relation between Cana and Y/n as realistic as possible, there is not a lot known about Cana's personality as she doesn't have a lot of scenes but she seems more laid back. I will try having it a slow burn.
