Chapter 50
3rd person Pov
All the contestants were arguing amongst each other to who they should select for this run but time was running out for them soon. "Its decidet then who's going to play for us." Irene whispered and Cana nodded. "Yeah looking at it that's the only one we can chose." she agreed. "So who's going to do it?" Wendy asked and Y/n was looking at the three who had been talking back and forth under them. Gildarts stepped out of the trio. "Well since we are the ones with the most knowledge about magic we talked about who could do this and it had to be someone who had a vast knowledge of magic, possibly all of it, then the persons senses had to be the best of us and if you think about it Irene could very well fit into it." He stated and then Cana got to his side.
"But." She trailed. "We have to be careful who we choose as that person can't play again, Irene may be a good choice but if we have a fighting competition we'd rather have someone like her or you Y/n be in it which is why neither you or Irene will be playing in this." She stated and then Irene walked up. "Which leaves us with only one obvious choice. Wendy, you have almost the same skill set and knowledge as I have with the bonus of Dragon slayer senses, together with your carefull analitical mind and sensing magic energy you are the best fit for this." She stated and Wendy got a bit scared.
She clutched her hand into a fist. "I think I can do this no problem." She stated and Carla smiled. "Of course you can Wendy, stop doubting yourself, you've been improving greatly under Irene's guidance just like Erza has as well." She stated and Irene beamed of joy.
At the Royal Balcony Hisui was rather tense about something. "Did you arange the battles acordingly?" She asked and Arcadios nodded. "I've done as you asked, the battles are all rigged for the best and most exciting results." He replied and Hisui slouched back on her seat. "Still it doesn't feel right to rig the selection and I hope all of them are chosing right on who to send in." She stated and Makoto tilted her head. "Rigging?" She questioned and Hisui panicked. "Well you see, in order to have it exciting we let the people believe the selection was randomly but its carefully been constructed with the participants strengh in mind so it wont be boring." She replied and Makoto nodded looking a bit confused.
Wendy headed down into the arena together with the other contestants. "Now that everyone is here of the contestans we can finaly lift the secret." Mato exclaimed and moved his hand towards a vision lacrima.
"The whole game is going to be played in a single room. In front of you the murdered victim will be laying on the floor. You will be given a sheet with all the suspects and their abilities, which are dark guild members. Your goal is to collect as many clues as you can to identify the suspect and finish it first. If not enough clues are found you will not be able to identify the culprit at all." Mato stated and Wendy began to think.
The Sky mage wasn't worried but still felt the usual nervousness in her heart beating eraticaly. She had a small glimpse at Romeo who was looking only at her. Heat infiltrated the bluenetts face quickly spreading a hue of pink all over her cheeks.
Averting her eyes she suddenly found herself in a bright light. Did the game already start? Finding herslef in an unfamiliar room she inhaled slightly and noticed the scent of burnt ash in the air. A clue already? She stepped forwards seeing the sheet laying on a dresser.
She went over it quickly. "So my suspects are from Death's Head Caucus Vidaldus Taka, Eisenwald's Erigor and Ghoul spirits Takedama. Their abilities seem to vastly differ from each other so it shouldn't be an issue." She whispered and walked behind the area that was marked with tape.
A simple hotelroom was the scene of the crime and laying on the ground laid a member of Fiores Government. Wendy let out a light shriek on the sight as girl still wasn't used to seeing such henous crimes.
First time she had been to one was in company of Irene on a job that requested a mages investigations regardiging magic traces found in the area.
The teenager could learn quite a lot from an experienced mage such as Irene. She also learned that certain criminals would spread fake traces in order to cover their tracks or the actual cause of death. She took a look around the room and it was clean, none of the walls had any dirt on it or possible signs of a fight.
She looked right towards the window and it was open as she guessed. She wrote down her clues and turned to the body. On the back it had no obvious injuries. She turned it around and sure enough she found the throat slit through, cleanly like it was from a really sharp object. A knife or scalpell perhaps. Looking around she couldn't find the weapon and no criminal would hide it anyway.
She had a few clues but none of them would be enough to harden the evidence to one suspect. All three of them had the ability to use a knife and from what she read Erigor could even use his wind as weapons.
She stopped for a moment and reanalized the body again. This time slowly touching it. She arrived at the chest and sure enough she found something strange, it was way softer then it shold be and caved in lightly. She wrote down her clues and came to one conclusion.
Erigor had to be using his wind magic to sufocate the victim and slit the throat to plant a false trail.
Wendy confidently checked the box near Erigors name. She waited for a moment for something to happen but nothing did. She looked back to the door. "Do I need to leave?" She wondered and slowly walked to it. Touching the handle she had again the same sensation happen to her of a white light surounding her.
The familiar feeling of the fans cheering and sand below her feet touching her was what she felt before her sight came from the blinding whiteness. "Ladies and Gentlemen, we got our first place Wendy, from Fairy Tail." Mato exclaimed and Wendy noticed a strange cube in the midle of the arena. Was that the magic lacrimas doing?
The people on the stages were screaming and clapping at the sky maidens victory. Uknown to her not everyone of the guild had seen her come out on top just seconds before one of the Henchmen from the Muromachi Roku.
Inside of the arena was Y/n walking in one of the many coridors. Why was he down here? An interesting information given to him by Gajeel had caught his attention and needed investigations. "If his words are true then under the arena there's a huge cave with relics of the dragon war." He stated and Bill flew right in front of him facing the slayer.
"Are you sure it was a good idea to slip away." She questioned. "You know the games aren't over and all we know you could be called to face off against an oponent." Bill exclaimed.
The slayer stopped. Indeed he shouldn't have been down here. "I know." He curtly stated and in the distance a pair of heels clicking on the ground was heard by him slowly coming closer.
"Do you think our plan works if we catch him?" An alluring voice stated coming from the hall. "I'm certain of it Miko he's the key to our plan and he will come with us if he wants or not." A second more stern voice exclaimed. "Well we could try to seduce him and come with us don't you think?" The first chuckled only to get a scoff from the other. "That's uncouth."
Y/n walked forwards and to his surprise he was met with two women. One had pink hair, a priestress robe and fox animal like hair ears, the other a kimono. "That's a surprise, but a welcome one." The pink haired girl exclaimed.
The purple haired one walked up to him. "I'm the empress of Japan but you can call me Ei." She stated and Y/n was still puzzled about everything. "I want you to come with us to Japan and if you don't comply we need to use force." She added and Y/n kept his gaze on her face not trying to look down as the situation was getting too dangerous.
. . .
Irene and Cana decided to take a walk in the arena as they curently had paused the games to prepare the next atraction. "What are you going to do Irene if you get chosen for the battle?" Cana asked and the mother of slayers closedd her eyes tapping with a finger on her right cheek. "Depending on who I will face I could challange them to a cookoff or even a poseing challange." She replied and chuckled softly.
Cana stopped and turned around confused and shocked to Irene's reply. "Did you by chance see the grand magic games of 791." She blurted out loud. Irene knew all too well what Cana wanted to know. A smug feeling came in the redheads mind. "Of course I did, I've seen it all and I'm so proud of everyone, especialy my children and Erza the most." The Queen replied nodding proudly.
Cana nudged Irene's shoulder. "Aw so you did care about Erza." She laughed and Irene smiled softly. "But still." Cana stopped for a moment. "You seriously would do the same thing as Mirajane did?" She raised an eyebrow doubting the mage who's rather conservative in her choice of clothing. She knew Erza would be totaly into doing this, but her own mother?
Irene's cheeks tainted a faint pink shade. She turned away from embarrassment, crossing her arms. "Well, I wouldn't drop my clothes and stand there in the nude. I would do somthing that wouldn't make my daughter feel ashamed for being my child." She retorted and heard two distinct laughters behind them.
"Heine, Juliet, what are you two doing here." She snapped and noticed her Exceed with them. "Rose explain." She called out. The trio looked rather
Heine ran forwards to Irene. "There is a comotion outside and we heard screams." She exclaimed and Juliet nodded. "Yes we don't know what's happening but we should warn Hisui. We even heard explosions." The blonde stated.
Irene furrowed her eyebrows in wonder, unsure if her girls told the truth or wanted to mess with her. She walked to a nearby window, looking outside she extended her fingers. A red cross apeared on her right eye. Everyone was staring at Irene in suspense. "She's telling the truth." Irene exclaimed and the cross disapeared from her eye.
Cana looked puzzled at Irene. "What did you just do?" She asked and Irene stood still for a moment. "Oh right, I've used eye magic. Its a rare spell, the user can view a remote area with the help of a giant eye." She replied and turned back to the girls. "Fine, Heine, go and find Warren, Juliet you go and find the guild, I'm going to search for Hisui and tell her." She stated and the girls nodded running away. "Rose come with me and you Cana prepare your cards." The redhead ordered and began to walk at a quick pace.
Soon after the group found Hisui at her terrace. "Irene you aren't supposed to be here." The Queen exclaimed confused. "I apologize your highness but there is an urgent mater." Irene stated and Hisui's expression changed. "Then speak." She barked out.
"There is an uproar in the city and my two girls told me something is causing this. Even sounds of explosions are heard." She replied and Hisui's mouth dropped open. "Arcadios, tell every guard to be ready to fight, the ones in the arena need to guard the entrances." She ordered and the knight bowed. "As you wish." He replied and walked off.
Hisui turned to Irene. "Do you know more off this attack?" She asked with worry in her voice. "I don't but maybe Cana or Y/n might have a clue." She replied and motioned to the Card mage at her side.
Cana stared at them like a deer in headlights. "Hey I don't know anything about it." She backed away lightly but something clicked in her mind. She took out her cards laying random cards down onto the ground. Everyone was looking at them confused. "That's not really helping, the cards say we have already met these foes but none come to my mind." She replied and looked back up. It dawned Irene slowly. "Didn't you once mention some bandits in an old cave with a dragon smell or something like that?" She asked and Cana mused for a moment. "I did, it was a shrine to pray for a god, a dragon god maybe and Y/n said it smelled like his magic."
"That's because it was the shrine of a cult." A feminine voice cut in. All of them looked to the entrance seeing Y/n, a purple haired woman and one with pink hair. "Shogun Ei?" Irene stated in surprise.
The Shogun stared at Irene showing no emotions. "A cult known as Children of the Frostdragon has invaded the city." She stated and dropped a person onto the floor that was covered in a complete wide garb with a white cloth mask. "Its an ancient cult that has been growing steadily in my country." She exclaimed and ripped off something from the cult member. "They all share this emblem, a white dragon head on a necklace." She added and then looked to Y/n. "Did the ones you saw have them?" She asked and he shook his head.
The Shogun let out a small huff as Y/n raised his eyes to her. "They didn't, maybe they were recruited by them a while a go." He replied and took the symbol in his hand.
The Emblem felt out of this world, it felt like cold ice but it didn't melt in the heat of the hand. The sigil resonated a small amount of magical energy from itself. "Cana do you know anything about Ice which has magical energy?" Y/n asked handing it to the brunette.
Cana mused for a moment and she snapped her finger. "I do, there is this realy rare ice, called Hakobe ice which has magical properties and can't melt under heat and needs to be cut with special magic imbued knifes." She stated and Irene took a look at it. "That could be a plausible explanation, if not for one thing Cana." Irene replied and the Card mage turned to her bewildered. "How so." She asked and laid a hand on her hip. "I know how Hakobe ice feels and this without a doubt doesn't feel like it, I think it comes from somewhere else. Made by someone or rather something these cultists whorship as their god."
The room fell silent with only the outside comotions being heard by the few in the room. It was quite obvious to everyone as to where this would lead but neither wanted to say it out loud. The Queen stomped on the ground with a cane. "Listen to me, you all need to clean up the city from these people and round them up one after the other, get as much information as you can from the cultists if you need. I only have one request from you. Protect the citizens at all costs." She stated and in the blink of an eye the Shogun was gone.
