Chapter 5
Cana Pov
I couldn't keep the strange feeling of from me that something wasn't right about this, what we found on the job was merely the begin of something, I know it isn't just something simple which we found out. That's why I'm currently in the archive of the guildhall to try and find anything that can give us a lead on this, which isn't easy considering the guild is just about a hundred years old and the hideout of the bandits had to be several centuries older.
All the books in the archive are sorted by age and alphabetical order. I headed for the last row which was all the way back, thankfully the archive is well lit. "Cana are you sure that we might find something here." Erza asked as she walked up to me.
I turned to her slowly with a hunched down pose while I was placing back the books in the lowest row. I placed down my hands on my lap. "We have to try at least Erza, you know as much as I do that the archive of the guild has surprises up its sleeve, not even Master Makarov knows all of the books down here." I replied to her and she knelt down next to me grabbing a book. "Then I'll help you, I overheard you talking with Levy about it but I think something with D was it that you are searching right?" She asked and smiled at me softly.
I nodded with a small grin. "Yeah, I'm looking to find something about Dragons or Dragnof itself." I replied and Erza's face grew gloomy as she pressed her lips into a firm line turning her head to the shelf and looking at the books.
I raised an eyebrow at her reaction. I got curious why she turned away as soon as I had said the name Dragnof. "Erza did I say something which gave you bad memories?" I asked and she shook her head. "No Cana I just remembered something, I promise its nothing bad, only a memory which I cannot place into the right order, a burning city which I've never seen yet I know the name Dragnof, I believe it was a dream I had about Dragnof, burning buildings and dragons flying above it, I had it recently after I read a history book in the library of Crocus on a job." She replied and I gasped.
"Erza that book might be what we need." I said and she crossed her arms and shook her head again. "It isn't I promise, it was more of a children's book and had more pictures then text in it." She quickly replied and I sighed in defeat slouching down on the ground.
I felt her grab my shoulder gently. "Tell me Cana, since how long have you been down here?" She asked and a fond smile spread on her lips. "Since morning, this place is so huge and crowded with books that it might take me another full day to find what I'm searching for, since the mission with Y/n I couldn't get those weird symbols out of my mind." I replied to her and she chuckled softly.
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Why are you laughing?" I asked and she looked back at me contently. "Its the first time I've seen you be so eager on finding something out which has to do with someone else and by any chance have you been thinking of Y/n the whole time while being down here?" She replied and I placed back the bunch of books I was holding.
"Well this got my interest and why are you asking me about him so much, I'm not thinking about him the whole time but he did occupy my mind quite a bit down here, especially since he's out with Gildarts and I'm a little worried." I replied silently and started to look away from her.
She gave me a smug smile and kept silent. "Anyway I'm sure he's going to be fine Cana." She reassured and grabbed by underarm. "Lets search for something that could help us on this, master told me to see why you haven't come up since morning and if we really don't find anything here we could always go to one of the archives in Fiore." She proposed and I agreed with her.
I stood up and grabbed another pile of the books placing them on the table behind me. I placed one down when I felt Erza's hand on my shoulder. "Cana you dropped this map." She said and we both looked at it.
Our eyes grew wide the moment we read it. "That's the place I had the job request with the bandits at." I exclaimed and Erza pointed to the far north of the map. "Isn't this the place Gildarts went to, the town of the major is right next to it." She pointed out and we both looked at each other when we realized it, it clicked. "These missions have to have a connection of some sort and this map is showing several other locations." I stated and Erza nodded. "Indeed but what kind of map is this, a treasure map of some sorts?" She asked and I shook my head negatively.
"No its far from that Erza, this place had bones in it coming from a dragon, we have to wait and see what Gildarts and Y/n say about their mission, if its anything close to the first then I'm certain we have a map with burials right here." I spoke and she pressed her lips into a firm line. "If that's what it really is then I'm certain there is an adventure going to wait for us or you." Erza replied calmly.
I turned the paper on its back and there was something written on it. "Whoever enters these crypts shall know grave danger lies ahead." I read and Erza did too.
I looked down on the ground. "Hey you don't need to worry about him, even if he got on an SS class mission he was with Gildarts, I'm sure everything is going to be alright." She said and calmed me down.
Y/n Pov
The steps down to the main room of this place were put in a spiral form and when we arrived down to it I gazed up to the entrance on the bridge above us, it was at least a twenty meter drop from there. Bill gripped with her paws tightly on my shoulder.
"As long as we are out of this place before sundown we shouldn't have to worry about this." Gildarts exclaimed and motioned to the corpses and Dragon while we made our way to the gate passing the giant creature. He took out a watch and looked at it. "We got 10 hours before things might get freaky." He added and touched the gate behind the dragon.
Behind it we could see more steps but this time they were longer and wider going straight down. "Whatever is down there might be the thing causing this." I stated and Gildarts nodded in agreement. "I'm sure of it, dungeons have the target always in the last room." He added and reeled his fist back.
"Wait don't strike it, we don't know if this gate could be linked to a trap." I shouted and he lowered his hand again. "Right, lets search for a lever of some sort, I take the left and you take the right part Y/n." He spoke and I nodded.
I could see the corner of a door behind a large rock and made my way to it with Bill tightly clinging onto me. "What do you think is behind that gate Y/n." Bill asked and I thought for a second. "I don't know, maybe a book of Zeref or a cursed item which is bound to this place and we need to destroy it." I stated and Bill nodded. "I agree." She replied.
I reached a room full of bookshelves and took a look at them. Most were destroyed but some had their titles still intact, I couldn't read them but a picture of meat was on it and another had an axe, maybe about cooking and weapons.
The shrill shrieking echo of wind flew past me and I jumped aside as I though something was about to attack me.
Nothing was there and I exhaled in relieve while moving a hand through my hair. "Lets go further Bill, we don't want to waste more time as we really should." I said and walked again past the books to another staircase, this time it went upstairs to a room full of drawings and words hammered in the walls. "If only we could read the words but we can understand the images right." Bill said and I stopped to look at one which was colored. It was a drawing of a woman with Scarlet hair sitting on a throne and right behind her was a brown dragon laid down looking at her. "What do you think this could mean." She asked in wonder.
"If I had to guess it might be a queen, her crown and the throne give it away, the dragon might be either an ally or a defeated dragon who's held as a slave for the queen as pet, but if I would give this image a name I would call it queen of the Dragons." I replied and kept looking at the drawing. It was detailed quite a bit.
Looking to my right I saw a gated window and right below it I notices a lever, I checked all around it and couldn't see anything suspicious. I gripped the lever and pulled it towards me.
The sound of a gate falling made me look out of the hole in the wall to see the gate behind the dragon dropped. "Yes it worked." I cheered and right next to me a wooden door fell down revealing a pass down to the main floor.
Gildarts appeared right from a hole in the wall. "Sorry the path was blocked to this area." He apologized. His gaze went to the gate and he smirked. "Good its open pulling the lever did help." He stated and I was looking at him surprised. "You pulled a lever too." I said and he was shocked to hear it.
He crossed his arms in front and placed his right hand under his chin. "Two levers, a crypt full of supposedly dead corpses, the outside of this place is looking like a dead forest, everything points down to dark magic." He spoke and then took on a serious face. "Lets see what's down there." He added and walked down the steps.
The clacking of the shoes on the stone made me uneasy as we got closer to the end of the stairs, I noticed a wooden door at its end and the a light gust of wind going through it. "This is the end place or do you think it goes in deeper." Gildarts asked and shook my head in a no. "I don't know, maybe its the last room and behind is just the table with the thing causing this." I replied and GIldarts opened the door to the room.
We entered the room which had something like a coffin on a raised platform. On its left and right were pillars with dragon heads, the walls all were naked out of stone with the few torches starting to lit and right as we reached halfway through the room something made a crack sound in front of us. "Get ready this might be the boss." Gildarts spoke and out of it crawled a humanoid monster that made a blade appear out if its arm.
I got into a fighting position. "Here it goes, Ice dragons Iron hammer." I yelled and jumped forward hitting the monster right in its chest making it fly backwards onto the wall making it roar up.
It landed back on its feet and raised its hand firing a magic attack at me. I jumped out of the way and landed right next to Gildarts who was looking up to the stairs. "Where are you looking at." I asked and he pointed upwards. "Those damn dead corpses woke up." He yelled and I looked up in shock. "Damn it." I yelled and in front of me the monster laughed as a black mist was coming from him and the corpses above too. A load roar up ahead made us duck out of the way as a red flame was shooting down through the door passing right between me and Gildarts.
I looked to Bill who flew up. "Bill stay with Gildarts I'm going to mess with that Dragon myself while you take care of the boss, we'll share the corpses." I yelled and the two nodded. I ran upstairs against the corpses. "Ice dragons frozen spear." I yelled and out of my hand shot an ice spear hitting several of the enemies making them drop dead.
I jumped upwards to be above them to get an advantage. "Ice dragons roar." I shouted and half of them turned into ice sculptures. I landed on top of the stairs and right there I stood face to face with a full sized dragon who seemed to be alive as none of the bones showed, only grey scales. "You are right what I can slay." I yelled and ran forwards, right as the dragon wanted to bite me I jumped upwards. "Ice dragons demolishing strike." I shouted hitting its back. It roared up and glared at me.
I laughed. "That's what you get for messing with a Dragon slayer." I shouted. A hard hit caused me to be thrown against the wall of the cave as it hit me with its tail. "You wanted this right but I will eat you puny human." A voice said and I was shocked. "What you can understand me." I said and he stared at me blankly. "Of course I can, dragons are the most intelligent beings in all of the word, but we never thought humans would turn on us." He said and then opened his mouth to fire another attack at me that I dodged.
"Wait before we fight further I have a question." I asked and the dragon scoffed. "I don't talk to humans who betray the ones protecting them." He yelled and I again evaded his tail attack.
"Do you know a dragon called Nivies, she's a female ice dragon and she raised me." I said and the dragon stopped for a second. "Nivies. . . I've heard that name but that's long ago." He said and I shook my head. "No it can't be long ago, last time I've seen her was just before the year 777." I replied and the dragon then looked at me surprised. "400 years ago I died through the hands of dragon slayers and was brought down here, that dragon who raised you surely died centuries ago too." He spoke and suddenly he vanished leaving only the bones dropping to the ground.
I slouched down on the ground in defeat. "Damn it, I was so close to get a clue on my mothers whereabouts." I shouted and saw Gildarts walk up from the stairs. "Job's done, that monster down there was using black magic, it was likely a sorcerer in its past who was using dark magic, capable of using the dead to fight for him, but here we have one of the books, there's several down there, its an old tome with a dragon depicted on it, sadly it has the same grammar as those on the wall we found earlier." Gildarts spoke and showed me the book that seemed to be in great shape.
"Lets get going. It took us three hours to beat this place." He spoke and I stood up. Bill walked up to me and looked quite beaten up. "What happened Bill, I asked in shock as her fur was completely uneven. "I was hit by Gildarts crash magic and thrown against the wall, it didn't hurt but I was cut into thousands of tiny versions of me." She replied still a little fuzzy in her head.
I hugged her happily. "I'm glad you are ok Bill, this dragon knew my foster mother but sadly he couldn't tell me much." I said and Bill gave me a solemn look. "We'll find her I'm sure of it Y/n" She replied and I stood back up.
. . .
We sat in front of the major inside of his office again after completing the quest. "So if I get this right, a deceased dark mage was the cause of this unusual happening?" He asked and Gildarts nodded. "Yes, as far as we know in the past any magic was allowed, there were no rules on which magic was good or evil, they were just tools and the one we fought had such a large amount of dark magic that it was able to affect the dead corpses inside of it for centuries likely and even the remains of a dragon were inside." Gildarts said and I nodded.
The major gave a pleased sigh. "Thank you mages of Fairy Tail, you have my gratitude and I'm giving you the jewel for this job right away." He replied and pulled out two sacks of jewel for us. Gildarts grabbed them and tossed one to Y/n. "You've earned it Y/n, we did a great job on it."
I hope that how I've been writing the story was good enough and that it got interesting enough.
Happy new year to everyone and I hope you had a good new year start with good sleep. May the new years resolutions not be broken after 1 week.
