Chapter 42
Y/n Pov
The whole palace was filled with people celebrating the princess's birthday as it was tradition to have a ball at the begin of it and in the middle, she could decide what she wanted to do and the last day, the third day she had to take place on the throne and declare to the people that she will rule this kingdom in hopes to make it a better place for everyone. "You don't know how nervous I've felt right when I sat on that throne looking at all of them." Irene whispered as she was looking from it from above leaned on a banister. I crossed my arms and looked at her surprised. "Really, you look calm." I replied and she waved with her hand. "Don't think that. I as the daughter to the royal family and future ruler of Dragnof could not allow myself to show weakness or any negative emotions during my official appearances to the citizens of my kingdom." She replied and then laid a hand on her chest. "But I always could go around the city and enjoy just being a child as well with all the ups and downs of it." She added and a smile spread on her face.
I cracked a small smile. "Ups and downs?" I asked and looked at her raising an eyebrow. "Don't tell me the princess of Dragnof played with the children of the common folk." I replied and she nodded gravely, placing her hand right under her chin.
"I did, so what. The palace guard always knew where I went and Artoria accompanies me." She replied and a light laugh right next to us was heard. We both looked to Gildarts smiling a little. "So you as little girl played tag and jump the rope with other kids." Gildarts stated and Irene blushed faintly, dropping her composure for a moment. "I was just a child back then too, I wasn't something different, between the lessons of diplomacy, fighting and school I have longed for the same basic stuff every child wanted, to spend time with friends and my family and just be myself." She replied looking down to her young self.
Cana moved right next to her. "I'm guessing you envied the others?" She asked gloomily looking down right to the smaller me.
I noticed Irene bite her jaw a little tight. "I did." Irene broke the silence. "I did envy them for what they had, most of them had a stable family and always could see their parents, something I couldn't say." She replied and crossed her arms.

A chill went through my spine when I felt a familiar stare at me. I was far away from any other person who could see me. "Irene I know you are hiding something." Belserion's voice calmly states but his eyes showed clear annoyance. I was with my back against the wall with it.
If there was something he hated it was being lied to or hiding something from him. "I don't know what you are talking about." I replied calmly and my knees were already shaking as I tried to hold eye contact with him. Something I had to do if I wanted to try and succeed with a dragon. It didn't help that he was in his human form.
He came close to me with his face. "Your smell." He whispered and inhaled a bit. "You smell like a dragon, care to explain how." He added and crossed his arms looking right at me.
I kept silent for a moment as I tried to find the words. My heart started to quicken its pace uncomfortably fast and I was getting too hot. "Well, I've been around dragons for a while so of course I'm going to smell like one." I replied and he kept staring at me without even as much as a twitch in his face.
He made a long sigh. "You could fool a human like that but not me, why didn't you just openly say you have the magic of a dragon inside of you." He replied disappointed. His eyes met mine again. "So what would you talk about, I know you have something on your mind." He added and then leaned back onto the wall of the palace.
We still had the mater of the grand magic games to solve, and I got one idea about it for us. But it was risky. I clenched my hand one time. "Well, I wanted to ask if I could borrow some lacrimas filled with dragon magic." I stated and he raised an eyebrow.
The Lacrimas were called Dragon lacrimas because they stored magic of Dragons, yet we didn't use them on humans, we added them into weapons to create something capable to pierce the scales of Dragons.
A small smirk crossed his lips. "I'm curious for what, I know you can use dragon slayer magic or else your magic wouldn't feel like mine." He questioned tilting his head.
A defeated huff came out of my lips as I slouched down. "I want to increase my magic power and Y/n's too, he uses ice dragon magic." I stated and his ear perked up lightly.
His lips curled up into a smile while his chin rested on his hand. "Using dragon lacrimas to increase your power, sounds suicidal. But I think its possible." He stated and then leaned back a bit. "How are we going to do it?"
How will it be done. Dragon slayer Lacrimas can be eaten as well as surgically put into the user's body or in other ways too. "I think our best action is to absorb them into our body." I stated and Belserion kept a neutral gaze. Dragnofs medical technology far exceeds those from any other country. Only because of our Dragons. "I'll talk to Grandeeney then." He bowed and turned around walking into the palace. That name, Grandeeney, she's the Dragon Wendy told me about.

Books nothing but rows of books spread across an entire room in the church of Dragnof. "Your majesty is it okay if we just barge in like that." Cana asked and the queen turned around quickly and gracefully. "Of course it is." She snapped lightly and placed her hands together. "I'm the queen and have the right to go in and out of every place except the private home of citizens." She added and then raised her hand. "As for why we went through the underground passage, I do not intent to run into the priests right up on the entrance of the library, they can be a bit of a nuisance even to me as they watch over their books like a treasure, they do not like it when we take their books for research." She said turning around and going again in a quick pace. Even in her condition she was fast.
What we wanted to do right now was getting the book back we lost on our arrival here. "If I'm not mistaken the book should be in the middle with all the special equipment." She murmured while looking around carefully.
On a large pedestal we found it. A white book with a glass dome around it. "Why is it covered." I asked and the queen tried to lift it up. "It is for the priest's protection. Any enchantment which is inside of these books is being contained into this area protecting them from it. The device uses magic to swipe between the pages so we can read what is writen in it. So if it does go off then they won't be harmed." She explained and finally got the dome off. "Now hurry back into the palace before they find us." She whispered and stepped away with the book in her hand.
Under Dragnof existed a gigantic subway of corridors which lead to various buildings as well as outside of the city in case it would ever be attacked by an invading army. The hallways were lit with magic orbs that had to be activated with a spell.

An uneasy feeling spread in my body while my heart pounced from stress. Why was I feeling this way right now. I was just walking down the usual corridor I've always known as a child. Down to the infirmary of my kingdom. Were the doctors and nurses are taking care of the sick and injured citizens. Was it because of her, the headmistress. "She's just up ahead Irene don't worry she isn't going to be mean to you." Belserion reassured as his hand was gently placed between my shoulder blades pushing me in front of him right at the door. Grandeeney was known in the kingdom as the best healer and medical advisor known to humankind. She didn't help just everyone, and she tried to find ways to not use her magic and still help the people by creating potions from herbs. She was a bit strange, she hated dragons but loved humans.
The second I opened the door I was met with a large room full of people in white coats tending the ill. "Grandeeney you got someone here for you." Belserion exclaimed and gust of wind blew right towards us. "What do you want Belserion, I've told you I don't like dragons, you can all go." She yelled while he just stared blankly down the hall. "It's not about Dragons, princess Irene needs your help." He stated and now I could see Grandeeney, she walked right to us. Her white hair was pulled up in a ponytail, but two sets of bangs framed her face. Her coat was closed from top to bottom. Her lower legs were covered by black nylons, and she wore small, heeled shoes.
"I've told you once Belserion I don't like Dragons but for you I can make an exception." She stated and Belserion breather out lightly tense mumbling a sarcastic love you too. "So, what's it about princess Irene, do you want to get rid of your dragon slayer magic?" She asked and pointed with her finger right at my chest. I shook my head "No, I need help with getting dragon slayer lacrimas, I know you got some of them stored away." I stated and she scoffed a little.
"Since you are the princess, I doubt I can change your mind, I've heard you are extremely hardheaded, and you will always get your way." She said and then raised an eyebrow. "But not with me young lady, you'll have to prove you are worth of them." She said and I sweat dropped.
Belserion Chuckled lightly. "Oh come on Grandeeney, do you really need to do it now, I know you always had a soft spot for the princess, she's in a bit of a problem at the moment." Belserion chimed in and she chuckled. "Fine, take the ones you need but not more, they aren't easy to come by." She stated and walked to a wall where she placed a hand right at the pillar.
A crack in the wall opened going wider and right behind it stood an entire row of magic crystals, orbs and secret potions, I had never seen in my life. Even as the princess there were places I had no right to get inside and was prohibited from even getting near them. I slowly walked inside.
"Irene I'm sure you know from the Etherion project don't you." Belserion spoke while he looked through the rows with me. I nodded. "I sure know Belserion, wasn't it planned by my father's weapon scientist." I stated and he chuckled forlornly. "The design is human but how it works that is from a dragon." He replied and I turned around. "A dragon which one." I shot at him.
I didn't know the Etherion cannon was created by a dragon. "Which Dragon can create a weapon strong enough to erase an entire country." I added and he kept silent for a moment. "Irene, how often do I have to remind you dragons are far more intelligent than humans will ever be. "The dragons name was Etheria, she's a remarkable creator of weapons and her ideas go beyond human understanding." He stated and I stepped back. "Etheria, I've never even heard that name." I replied and he nodded. "Many dragons don't have either. She's old very old. Only a handful of Dragons know from her existence and even fewer know where she is. I and five other dragons know it." He stated and placed his hand right on a crystal. "These two are what we need. Sage and Ice dragon slayer magic." He exclaimed and held them in his hands.
I nervously took the sage slayer crystal from his hand looking at the amber color of it. I never in my life thought that I would be doing something like this. "Grandeeney do know how we can get these crystals inside a human body." Belserion spoke and she tapped with a finger on her chin, she mused for a while. "There is a way for sure, maybe we can just place them inside and the body will use it as a vessel for the ethernano to increase the users power. However, I cannot foresee if there are complications down the line or side effects of some sorts." She added and then motioned us to follow. "You should find that dragon slayer friend of yours." She added and then walked with us.
. . .
The slight beeping of the lacrima monitor right in front of me was keeping me nervous as Grandeeney kept operating on Y/n. "Irene please tell me this operation isn't going to harm him." Cana's voice worriedly stated and she gave me that heart wrenching look of pain. She felt hurt and was scared for him.
I placed my hand right on the place Grandeeney had inserted the lacrima in right beside the heart on me. There was not a single trace of any operation and no scar as her healing magic made it disappear. "Cana I'm fine as you can see and Y/n will be too, I can't say if there are any side effects. I had no chance to talk to Sting and Rogue about it but Laxus does not seem to have issues." I replied and she bit her lip worried while holding Bill right in her arm who had her paw right up to the glass. We were watching from the side lines and Belserion was quietly observing it as well with Gildarts. "How are you feeling Irene." Gildarts spoke and I slowly turned around.
My body felt weak after the undertaking and I wasn't able to use my magic right now. "I can manage it but I do feel exhausted." I replied and he pat my head." Glad you feel okay but do tell me if something is off." He replied and I nodded.
I nervously bit my lip while watching. Grandeeney. She singlehandedly revolutionised the medical care in Dragnof getting our survival rate from 20% up to 90% during such operations. I was glad she's here and not away like other dragons. Gildarts was holding Rose in his arms as I was too weak to hold anything apart from the book Cana had handed me. As soon as this was over we'd be going home.
Behind us opened a door and a woman with snow white hair, Grey slitted eyes and a white gown entered the room. "So this is where my lacrima is being used?" She questioned and I looked her up and down. Her scent and magic was no doubt of a dragon. "Who are you."
She made a small formal bow. "My name is of no importance, but I am one of 4 ice dragons who reside in this kingdom." She replied to me and then looked over to Y/n. "Are you sure a human can handle the power of a dragon?" She asked crossing her arms and eyed me from the side. Belserion stepped right up. "Etoirir I can assure you in a fight you would have no chance against her highness or the fellow who's currently being tended by Grandeeney." He stated and she made a sound of disdain. "A human stronger than a dragon, what's next you are telling me they can land on the moon." She replied and clicked her tongue. "I'd like to see that honestly." She replied and Belserion slowly inhaled. "Irene, would you mind if you stayed here for a bit longer. I think Etoirir needs you to teach her something." He replied and I gravely nodded.
