Chapter 32
Cana Pov
Time felt like it was frozen when I said these words to him. I couldn't hear anything. Everything was silent. No water flowing, not a single bird singing its lovely tune. Just me and him staring into each others eyes while our hands had a hold of us. He leaned down slowly to me and I did as well. I couldn't fight it even if I tried. We were pulled together like a magnet. His stiff and rough lips moved with mine in sync before he pulled away slowly leaving me to look at him with half lidded eyes. "Cana I. . ." He tried to speak out but I shushed him with my finger placing it on his lips.
"That's what I would think someone would say here at this place." I stated and let go of him slowly. I could see in his eyes the immediate change. He thought I had confessed my love to him but I just gave this as an explanation to him. It stung a bit in my heart that I couldn't admit it openly but I hoped it was enough for him to realize it, my true feelings.
I averted his eyes from me. Did I hurt him somehow? I tried to reach out for him but he made a step back rasping lightly. "Geez and I thought Y/n was gonna pull something like that." Bill stated and crossed her arms. "Huh what do you mean?" I asked turning to her and she huffed. "Nothing important, I thought if one of you would do this he was gonna be the one." She replied and flew towards the stone in the middle. I jumped over the small stream of water joining at her side.
The writing on the stone looked ancient but it had our letters on it. I looked up the first of the laws. "Nothing is more important then the family and to create thy own one to live a life in dignity with love and support."
"The government has no right to say what you can and cannot do, its only purpose is to ensure the safety and well being of its citizens."
"The kingdom of Dragnof does not rule over its people or cuts them out of being heard. Every citizen no mater the age or wealth be it poor or rich has the right to have an audience with the ruling family to be listened to."
"In times of war every family will be required to enlist one of their sons to the military to defend the kingdom and one of their daughters to the monastery to be taught the role of medical assistant and care taker for the wounded until they can safely come back to the kingdom."
"Every citizen has the right for medical treatment of the same level as the royal family."
"No law shall be made that puts one side on a disadvantage when confronted with it and no law shall cause unequal treatment for anyone."
"Our kingdom can only have prosperity if the family is the most valued of all, protecting thy family and children from outside harm is for both mother and father the highest importance."
"Both motherhood and fatherhood shall be praised and cherished by celebrating it yearly for both."
"To be chaste until marriage is a rule for all, those who break it are to be shamed and exiled."
"Teaching children the proper values of morality, dignity and respect builds a strong mind and nation together with the taught roles of each individual to perfectly align and work in a society which builds on religious values and the law of god."
"Children are to be protected at all costs from any ill corrupting their mind. A child does not know good from evil or dignity from degradation. Any adult person who tries to teach harmful ideologies to children shall be dealt swiftly by the people to a just sentence to protect the innocent mind of harms way."
"Education in Dragnof shall only be done by the church and no other institute shall take its place especially none without moral guidance."
"Everyone who's an enemy to the kingdom of Dragnof and its people will await the worst punishment known to humankind. Death on the pyre."
And then the last law. "The royal family will be following each law to uphold the highest moral standard for each citizen. The royal family is not above others and we are at the Forefront of each conflict for the best solution of our nation."
I made a step back and looked it up and down. So moral and dignity was the highest value next to the family. Did these laws come from a time Dragnof stood up from the ashes of a destroyed nation and these were the moral teachings to stop the same mistake?
"So what do you think? Are these writings making sense to you?" Y/n asked behind me and I squeaked lightly as his hands took a hold of my waist.
I nodded. "They do." I stated and swiftly turned around to him. "But some do seem to be a little complicated." I replied and pointed to the one about chastity. "I would like to know more about this one." I whispered and looked up at him curiously. He ohed. before he sat down right in front of the monolith "That's an easy one but lets sit down for it." He replied and I sat down right next to him crossing my legs. He thought for a moment. "I was taught by my parents that the rule about chastity and monogamy came from the need to stop the spread of diseases and I can only agree that it makes sense. If you don't sleep with someone else you cannot spread it." He stated and I looked down to the ground.
Strict laws happen in a time of great need and loosening them can cause problems to arise again. "And what about the one of the family I think there's more to it?" I asked and he leaned against the stone. "From young age we are taught to pursue family of our own and to always make sure we look after each other. I would never do something that would go against the family." He stated and I drifted off into my thoughts.
In front of me I saw a cleanly cut lawn with flowers around and vegetables growing in the fields right behind it. I was sitting on a chair with a glass of juice in my left hand. The sound of wood being chopped caught my attention and I turned my head to see Y/n right there with brown pants and a white short sleeve shirt. He gave me a fond smile before swinging down the axe again. I felt a tug on my right arm. "Mama why is your tummy growing?" I heard a voice ask and I looked down to a small child, maybe 5 years old at best. I placed my hand down on my stomach. I noticed I was wearing a pinkish dress with polka dots. "That's because you are going to be a big brother." I replied and smiled happily down at it before the child beamed up and cheered in happiness.
I shook my head wildly and blushed deeply red. I started to panic and my heart skipped a beat. What am I thinking, me married and having a baby! That will never happen. I began to breath in and out quickly and grabbed my shirt with my right hand. "Cana are you okey, are you sick?" Y/n asked worried and placed his hand on my temple. I stared right at him before I blacked out.
Y/n Pov
Cana slumped down right onto me. "Cana!" I yelled out instinctively and Bill got right beside me. "What happened?" She asked with worry and placed her tiny paws right on her tummy. I leaned down to her mouth and noticed her shallow breathing before I sat back down. "I don't know what happened she shook her head quickly and then her face was all red before she breathed in and out like she had a panic attack." I replied and looked at her.
I didn't know what to do. She seems to only have fainted which doesn't mean much, maybe I should loosen her dress a little on her chest, it seems to be tight. I took hold of the string which tightened the chest part. "Hands off you pervert!" I heard a girlish voice yell and I quickly turned around to see Miku run at me.
I stood up quickly making a step back. "Miku what are you doing here?" I asked surprised and she glared at me. Stomping her way to me. "I was coming here too as Irene asked me if I could show her but then right as I arrive I see you trying to fondle Cana, I thought my brother isn't a pervert!" She stated stomping her foot down and I heard a light laugh from behind her. "My oh my. Miku aren't you one to judge quickly." Irene stated and walked to me calmly.
She gave a light glance down to Miku before waking her with her palm. "I told you a girl does not act this way even with their brothers, when you act badly you are getting consequences!" She stated and Miku bowed down. "I'm sorry miss Irene!" She cried out and rubbed her head while whining from the pain.
"How did this happen?" She asked and leaned down to Cana to look at her. She made a light frown. "I don't know, she just passed out all of a sudden." I said and she touched Cana's head. "She'll wake up. Pick her up we will get her to a better place." Irene stated and loosened the strings on Cana's chest a little. I picked her up slowly. I got her into a bridal carry with her head leaned against by shoulder.
I looked over to Irene curiously as I was confused about her and Miku coming here. "What did you and Miku talk about when coming here?" I asked and she gave me light shoulder shrug. "I guess it wont hurt to tell. She asked me what boys like and what she should do in order to be happy without making a mistake, I simply told her to do the opposite of what many others did which made them fall into despair due to their bad decision making." She replied and made a step forward. "She's lying!" Miku scoffed and I looked over to her while we walked down the path. "Really then what did you talk about?"
Irene let out a panicked squeak. "Irene and I talked about how the heart of the one you like can be won over and she told me she loves a man named Gildarts and she's hopelessly in love with him, she'd like to confess her love but she never knows when." Miku stated grinning wide and I made a quick look to Irene who fiddled with her fingers. "Never expected Irene to be like that." I mumbled and we headed further until we arrived at a water stream.
I took some of the cold water and spread it over Cana's burning forehead. "I'm sure she'll wake up soon this usually doesn't take long." Irene stated and looked down to Cana. "Do you love her?" She asked casually and I blushed lightly. "I can't really say but I think I do. She feels important to me." I replied and Irene smiled gently. "Love, its something that doesn't follow any logic or reasoning. It happens when you least expect it to be and sometimes its right in front of you without knowing it." She spoke gently and let out a sigh.
I knew what Cana had said was the truth. Her confession hidden behind denial most stem from the fear of being abandoned by the one she loves. I knew she said the truth but is afraid of my answer. Its up to me now to tell her, but when should I.
A/n: Chapter 32 done. I tried to get a bit more light into the past of the origin of the dragon slayer magic and the village Y/n grew up with with this chapter and Cana's confession was soft of a bluff from her part.
