Chapter 11

Cana Pov

Dimly lit halls and empty rooms were everything we found in the temple with the exception of those coffins. Irene placed down a bunch of flowers in front of the coffin the dragon slayer was in. When Y/n told her this she quickly had gone out and picked flowers. I could sense of much guilt she felt for all the dead slayers. She raised her face to him as he walked up. "Did you know him?" Y/n asked and Irene nodded silently. "I did, he was one very strange guy silent and cold but he had to endure Diane's cheerful personality all the time as I had been putting them together every time on missions, its hilarious to see a tsundere in action." She stated with a soft chuckle.

Irene turned around to leave and we followed her. "Did you find the Dragon priest again?" Irene asked and Y/n shook his head while moving a hand through his hair. "No its likely him and his people ran from the island." He replied and looked towards me. "Thanks Cana for bringing us to the island it really gave me some hope to know where my dragon is." He stated and I raised an eyebrow looking at him.

"Did you find something out?" I asked in wonder and he nodded. "The ice, it had a very close resemblance to my magic, it's almost as if the magic was related to me, I don't know why but I have a feeling this Diane ice dragon slayer might be more to do with my foster dragon than I think." He replied and began to think. "Who knows maybe Diane and your foster dragon are one and the same." I stated jokingly and he stared at me with wide eyes. "Don't be ridicules, that's not how it works." He quickly replied slightly offended and we saw Irene stop and turn to us. "Actually Y/n that could be the case, it is vague at best but remember I was pregnant with Erza for 400 years when I turned into a dragon. I had enchanted her to stop growing, sealing her in time and only when I lifted it she began to develop, so maybe something like that could have happened to you too and your true mother, Diane and Nivies could be one and the same." She stated leaving Y/n and I with our mouths open in shock.

. . .

Arriving at the village we walked into the chiefs hut sitting down in front of him. Irene stared at him with doubt while I placed the request in front. "We took care of what you wanted the temple wasn't filled by something evil but rather some cultists trying to free a frozen dragon, I don't know about the red moon but I'm certain that you wont be having issues with it anymore." I said and the chief silently observed me. "I want to be sure that the moon isn't going to be red again and until then you will stay." He stated and Irene made a quick nod but had a slightly confused face.

"A red moon? When I saw this island from afar the moon was its usual color." Irene replied and we all stared at her in surprise. "What? but I saw it glowing red." Wendy stated pointing to were it would be as it was day time.

I placed a hand on my chin thinking about it. The cultists trying to free a dragon, a red moon? "There is clearly something up we'd have to figure it out somehow if its related or not." I stated snapping my fingers and Y/n nodded. "I agree lets think about it." I said and both Wendy and Irene looked at each other.

"Wendy are you thinking the same as I do?" Irene asked and the Sky dragon slayer nodded eagerly. "I do Irene san." She replied before being stopped by the chief. "But first you should all eat, I'm certain you are hungry and it will take time for the moon to come." He exclaimed and all of a sudden our stomachs grumbled.

We all walked out of the hut and Irene placed her hand on Wendy's head. "Do you perhaps intend to help them cook Wendy?" Irene asked and the slayer thought a bit. "I don't know how to." She replied and Irene frowned. "How do you want to win a mans heart when you can't fill his tummy, to win a man over you need to show him how good you are in filling his stomach with cooked meals, of course they can do it on their own too but you have to think about it, the less a man spends with cooking the more he can do for you, there are a lot out there who say they don't need us as they can just go to a restaurant for it and there are plenty of women who give them the company they need." She said and smiled softly at her. "What do you mean with they can have the company of women?" Wendy replied and Irene got a little flustered.

"You are too young to know that but I'm sure you will learn about it." Irene replied and Cana stifled a laugh. "Wendy, she's talking about lonely men going into those places where women spend time with them alone in a room for money." Cana replied and Wendy blushed embarrassed. Carla glared at Cana but didn't say anything.

I walked to the spot where they had been preparing the food and saw Irene pull both Cana and Wendy there, Irene seemed to be a little angry. "I can't believe you both can't even cook, how embarrassing, I knew Makarov raising you would only help you at becoming kindhearted and friendly to another but he never showed you how to cook and only my own daughter and Mirajane know how to, Juvia tries her best but she somehow make a sweet cake turn sour." She stated and I tried to hold back my laughter when I noticed Cana's absolutely shocked face at being lectured by Irene. "Looks like Irene didn't joke about it when she did say she sees herself as a mother and its her duty to make the young of the guild become the best they can." I stated and Bill just stared at her dragging the two. "Especially you Wendy, how can someone be ordering Pizza almost 3 times a week, I swear Natsu's habits are rubbing of on you way too much." She scoffed and placed Wendy in front of a cutting board while she moved Cana to the other.

I walked to them and Cana looked at me still confused about it. "How did this happen, I only turned around for one second and she's pulling you behind the kitchen." I stated and Cana smiled softly. "Well it was all because I said I'm curious about it as I never once cooked on my own, I did try but it was a mess." She replied and began to cut it. Irene headed to me and pointed to a stack of wood. "Y/n I need you to cut some wood for the fire, I  spoke with the chief and told him we will help." She stated and Bill couldn't hold her laughter anymore.

I sighed and walked slowly to the hatchet placing a piece of wood on the tree stump and began chopping it. "You know I've never had so much fun actually and being needed is somehow fulfilling." I said and Bill looked at me in silence. "How so?" She asked in wonder.

I swung down the hatched and grabbed another piece of wood placing it down before looking at Bill again. "I can't tell why, but it is somehow making me feel great." I replied before again chopping it.

I was done and grabbed the few pieces bringing them to Irene who stood at the cooking pot, I placed the wood right under it and Cana turned around igniting it with her cards.

I stared at all three of them cutting the food and Irene stirred the pot while adding all the ingredients for a stew. "Y/n do you know what makes a good woman?" Irene asked and I shook my head slowly. "Its the ability to turn something you give her into an artwork, you build her a home and she'll turn it into the only place you will gladly come to after a hard day. A man is attracted to a woman's nurturing character, if she does not posses that she will never be a mans first choice." She stated and smiled before tasting it and adding some salt.

"Huh why are you telling me this Irene?" I asked and she stared at me in wonder. "Oh I was just giving you an advise not to fall for the wrong girl in your life, the girls in the Fairy Tail guild are all very good choices, some need a push to realize their potential but even someone as my daughter who's known to be very brash turned out to be a very feminin girl with a quiet spirit once Jellal showed up." She replied and I ohed.

"Wait you are telling me Erza, the bashful warrior of the guild is a gentle and caring woman, whats next, you telling me she's wearing dresses like a housewife would?" I replied and Irene made a small nod. "She actually bought some a few days ago." She replied calmly while sticking her pointer and thumb in the air and Cana snickered. "I'm certain Erza is planning to be a mother if she buys those, I've never seen her be so concentrated on something, she spend half her day in the guild writing stuff down and drawing the other day." Cana replied and Wendy listened in. "Erza is having a baby!" She stammered her face beet read and Cana snorted a laugh. "Oh come on Cana I'm certain a child coming from Erza and Jellal would be cute don't you think." Irene replied before freaking out. "I don't want to be a grandmother at my age!" She exclaimed in shock.

I chuckled too. "Aren't you already 400 years old, you are way overdue for it." I replied crossing my arms and gave Irene a small smirk while she stared at me. "Touché, you are right at that, I am overdue on being a grandmother." She replied calmly while stirring the pot.

After an hour Irene was done, the others of the village began to fill up the soup plates and hand them out, soon enough we all sat around a fire while the sun was setting down and torches were lit. The chief sat us around him and began to eat with us. "I thank you wizards of Fairy Tail for your duty but there is still this problem the moon which is as you can see has turned red." He stated pointing to it and Irene gazed at it calmly. She turned back to the chief. Do not worry this red moon is not dangerous in fact its easy to deal with, the only dangerous red moon would be during a ritual of the black magic in which you try to speak to the souls of the dead who have a grudge on someone and torment them, this red moon is the result of an overabundance of ethernano in the air, I've been to a place once that was known to be filled with magical power, it was a dense foggy forest and at the begin I really though it was just that but as it turns out if there is a high concentration of unused ethernano it will accumulate into visible particles, you can either wait a few days and it will disappear or we can think of something." Irene replied and the chief listened while looking at her intently.

"It would be in best interest for the village to get rid of this now, do what you have to even if it would destroy the moon." He replied and Irene let out a soft chuckle. "There is no need to destroy the moon." She replied waving her hand slowly but an amused grin spread on her face.

Irene stood up and walked a few meters away looking up to the moon. She raised her closed hand and abruptly opened it causing several large explosions to shatter the ethernano barrier and the moon showed up in its natural color. "The ethernano had been collected in that spot for several weeks probably, the rare climate of this island with its tropical plants and wind currents caused a perfect high and low pressure zone above the island which forced the ethernano together forming a dense shield, it is rare but I've ran into one literally once." She stated and got back to eating. "As for the reward on this job, I'm the only one who can get the it as I told Mirajane I will take the job without any help." She added and both Cana and I looked at her in shock. "I completely forgot that we didn't officially take the job." Cana whined and I slouched down, all this trouble for nothing." I sighed and felt Irene place her hand on my shoulder squeezing it lightly. She gave me a comforting smile. "I wouldn't say nothing, remember that you found out who was the one putting the dragon into the ice, it was Diane." She stated with a soft voice and let go of me.

The chief handed Irene the jewel and she thanked him by shaking his hand. "We need to go it was very amusing to make this job and I hope you will come again to the Fairy Tail guild if there are problems for you." She replied smiling at him.

. . .

Magnolia was buzzing with people while we headed for the guild we came back this morning at Hargeon and it took us a bit to get back as Irene and I both refused to use a carriage. Walking through the town and being greeted by everyone was a sight to not forget, I could see a happy smile on Irene's face. "It's really nice to see you so happy Irene, when you came to the guild months ago you were nothing like now, all closed off and doubtful of others." Cana stated and Irene smiled softly. "I wouldn't give it away for anything now, coming to the guild and being greeted by everyone is so fulfilling while also being seen as the mother of the guild is just amazing." She sighed happily. I looked to the ground nervously after having listened to Irene and Cana. There was no denying that I was uneasy about the punishment waiting for us I couldn't hold it and needed to know. "Can one of you at least tell me what kind of punishment it is, its making me crazy." I stated and Irene laughed into her hand. "Its the worst you can think of, I've heard from Natsu and Gray that you will never try to do anything stupid again, but if you ask me he'll probably stick the three of you into a costume and let you work in the guild bringing food and drinks to the tables." She stated before turning to me. "Oh and Y/n I'd like you to come to my home tomorrow, I've found out about a few things regarding the map and crypts, you can come with Cana right at morning if you want." She added smiling at me and I nodded. "Sure I can't wait for it." I replied happily.

A/n. And this is it for today. I thought of what I can do to make the story have more depth which is why I wrote about Irene explaining what she knew about the dragon slayer, I will make one with Cana as well going into her past. I will just have to think of how and when it will happen. If any grave mistakes are found do point them out.
