chapter 1 of 2

"Who are you?" the voice started, making Niu reopen her eyes. revealing a young man about her age or a little bit older.

 "Who are you?" Niu questioned.

The guy rolled his eyes at her nonsense. "I asked you first?" he says again, not letting the situation go.

Niu had to think fast. 'Well, if you don't know, the owner of this place is my grandfather.' She lies smoothly. He puts his hands behind his back walking in circles around her.

'Well, if I'm not mistaken, I didn't know the owner had any children, let alone grandchildren.'

Niu had had enough of this guy interrogating her. She was ready to give him a piece of her mind when all the lights came on.

She fled without thinking, hiding behind the guy.

"Roy," whispered someone, "over here, Master Wong." He replies,

'How many times have I told you about the hazards of...' Mr. Wong comes to a halt as he notices flyers clinging to Roy's shoulders.

Roy follows his sight, gazing at the girl behind him as he moves away revealing her.

She was stunned by his move but not that stunned. She gave off a nervous smile as she waved. Stumbling over her words to say,

"Hi, Mr. Wong you might not remember me." She stopped when he waved his hands as if he were shooing her away, before speaking.

'Listen little girl I don't have time, I'm a very busy man as you can see.' His words left her in shock.

Niu walked over to Mr. Wong as he took a seat in one of the chairs closer to the back room.

'Well, I am aware of that, and as soon as you listen to me...'

Mr. Wong cut her off once more, but this time he did not have a good reason. She tried once more to plead with him to just hear her out. He still did not budge.

"Feeling like her entire world had ended, she heads for the exit. Just before leaving, she turned to face him, pulling at the object around her neck.

I found this stone many years ago, I don't know if you remember me when I was eight years old, but me and my father used to come to your store all the time, and you used to tell me stories about how a long-lost prince fell in love, or how a maid fell in love with a prince. He still showed no emotion.

The last day I was here, you were telling me about a story where a girl fell in love. But you never finished it because it began to rain, and my father wanted to make it home before the weather got too bad."

He gave her his full attention. She continued. 'But do you remember that day you pleaded with him to stay, so I would not get wet and catch a cold.' Mr. Wong still did not say anything.

'That same day, outside your shop, I found this,' the tears were at bay just thinking about the sad day.

'I told my father on the way home that I wanted to show it to you, and that it could be worth something. He promised that we would come back. But I am afraid you know what happened...' The last part was not anything but a whisper.

As she felt her eyes starting to burn with unwed tears, she told herself that she would not cry.

Mr. Wong did not say a word as he got to his feet using his cane, making his way towards her.

He stopped looking at the jewel around her neck that seemed to glow in the light. She watched him closely as he examined it for a little while longer.

'Did you find that stone with the whole puncher through?" he looked at her.

"No sir, I did it myself, so that I wouldn't lose it. It is the closest thing to the memory of my father."
