Chapter One

Rhia had been told she couldn't go into the hospital room with her brother. She paced in the waiting room worriedly. She didn't want her little brother to die. Makai was all she had left. The very thought of him dying scared her.

She continued pacing until she got the idea of going back to the house to find some clues as to who had done this. She would make them pay for what they did to Makai. She just hoped Makai would still be alive when she got back.

She left the hospital, opened her wings, and took off into the air. She knew she'd have to be calm to think straight, and flying was a sensation that most definitely kept her calm. She soon calmed down and found herself soaring over the tallest buildings of their city of Kitsana.

Kitsana Village is a lively town on the island of Cache. Cache is a hidden island. Those who know about it know that it is a safe haven for orphan abnormalities. Abnormalities such as humanoid creatures, hybrids, anyone that would be normally be captured and tested on by any normal country's militia.

Rhia had originally moved here with her mother and father before Makai was born. It had only been a month, and then Makai was born and their mother disappeared. Their father had blamed Makai, but he was too young, so he took his anger out on Rhia. It was only when Makai was three did she take him and leave. Their father had shouted at her to bring back Makai, but to no avail.

Rhia finally landed a few blocks away from the house and closed her wings. She started walking, but was knocked over as something ran into her. Rhia turned and looked at whatever had ran into her. It was a albino fox. Rhia decided it must be a shapeshifter. She got up and the fox suddenly darted away. Rhia looked behind her and saw something she's never seen before. The creature looked like a wolf, but its fur was dripping a tar-like substance and its tail seemed to be fire. Its stench hit her nose and she stumbled back, then clamped her claws over her nose. The thing reeked of acid and rotting flesh. She quickly ran into the nearest alleyway to avoid it as it ran after the albino fox.

She suddenly remembered when her mother would tell her stories. Legends of an albino animal being chased by a nightmareish creature. It was a sign of either disaster, or blessings. Rhia got up, and kept her claws clamped over her mouth and nose. She opened her wings and flew after the creature. It kept running after the fox. She tried to fly over the creature and try to protect the fox from the creature's dangerous self, but to no avail. The creature snapped at her and it nearly touched her.

She flew up a bit and flew faster, beating her wings through the air as hard as she could. She finally caught up to the fox. She knew the fox's fear, mainly because the air around it stank with fear and because she could also feel the creature's breath on her heels. She tucked her legs close to her, then reached down for the fox. She quickly grabbed it, then held it close as she flew upwards. She kept her spot in the air, then tilted her body upwards a bit, then flew to the nearest roof and landed. She set the fox down and looked at it. She gasped when she saw the acid melting its face and torso. It then faded out of existence. She tried to decipher what this meant, then opened her wings and took to the sky again.

She started flying towards the hospital as fast as she could. Fear was stabbing at her heart. She landed and ran to Makai's hospital room. She burst into the room. Just as she did, the heart monitor showed a long, straight line. Rhia let out a choked cry of despair. She brought her hands to her face as she started crying. Her scales changed to a deeply upset dark blue. One thought rang through her mind.

My brother is dead and now I'm alone....... I will avenge you Makai. I'll find Mother. I'll make you proud.

She got up, wiped away her tears, and left the room and exited the hospital through the nearest door. She quickly flew back to their house and grabbed her belongings and gathered them in a bag, along with nuts, berries, herbs, and a few fruits. She grabbed the picture of her and her brother, then left the house. She found an old tunnel and darted into it. She just kept running.

She had a plan. First, she would find a safe place to mourn. Second, she'd go back to the hospital, take her brother's dead body, and burn him. This was a proper way for dragonoids to be mourned. Third, she'd train. She'd train her body, her mind, and her magic. Lastly, she would find who caused her brother's death. She would murder those they loved, then murder them as well. She was not going to let her brother die in vain. Not on her watch. Her brother will have died, but he will be remembered and avenged by the death of his murderer.

This is what Rhia vowed and she was not going to let it go to waste. She would prevail. She would show everyone what happened when you killed her family. If there was one thing she was sure of, it was this. That Makai would thank her in the end, and that their father will regret ever hurting them.
