Chapter 86 - Zekalis
Defeat has a strange sound in itself. People would take it either in a negative way where they would go insane or, they would take it in a positive way where they would learn from it.
However, when it came to Zekalis, he would feel insanely motivated.
The first time he experienced defeat was when he was a young child. He was defeated by Jord Flameheart when they were in their master's old guild, Arctic Flame.
Jord was younger than him yet he had more powers and he wasn't even from the line of wizard bloodline. His mother was a human and his father was a Kigh Tier wizard who was greatly known as the Murik. His magnetic fields were terrifying but Jord didn't have his powers. He had just normal fire power.
Zekalis, on the other hand, had a sophisticated power of wind. A very powerful yet Jord managed to defeat him. Not ones, but over and over again.
Zekalis's father was in the magic Council and often shamed him for being defeated by Jord. He didn't like it and that was when in his teens he had killed his father. He felt joy as if he had won.
He became a labeled criminal but he had managed to break free from the dungeons and finally went to the west for a short journey. He had met many wizards. Good ones and bad ones but he felt at home when he found Dark Fairies. A dark guild infamous for trading unique wizards.
The Guild Master was terrifying yet he liked that about him and when the time came, he kill him and became its infamous Guild Master Zekalis.
His businesses spread wide and the guild became a negotiating center of black market. Until the fire nation's Guild, The Arctic Flames decided to poke its nose into his business.
The world must be round as his old guild came back to hunt him down and not only the guild but also the boy, Jord Flameheart who was its guild master. Fate had a cruel way of coming back to you.
He was enjoying the play of mouse and cat with the fire nation but it affected his business. And when Arctic Flameheart's wizard started to meddle in his businesses, he wasn't pleased at all.
Right at the present, Zekalis had been infuriated by the Arctic Flame as they poured water in his plans especially from its Guild Master, Jord Flameheart. He had been trafficking uniques to different places and making money; however, whenever he went to raid, the wizards of Arctic Flames had been making it hard for him.
First, when his men got captured while taking children from Havok town. He got a report a blue flamed wizard had burnt his ship.
He was infuriated.
But one thing caught his eye. That was the blue flamed wizard. He had seen Fire powered wizards but had never seen a blue flame. He was curious and he started to track this particular wizard.
He came to know it was the infamous Flame Queen of fire nation. He was excited as he finally found a gem. He might sell the wizard at a high price but then came to know The Flame Queen already had a bounty on her head in the black market. 100000 gold coins.
He could not help but to feel the itch in his hands however, he saw no one would want to go hunt this wizard. Was the wizard that powerful?
He had been searching for more information on the Flame Queen when he found out the wizard was Jord Flameheart's daughter. Again, fate had played a cruel game on him.
Whenever he tried to start over or leave his old guild behind, somehow it had always come back to him. Again, Jord Flameheart, his old companion. And his business was running low as his old companion's guild was interfering in his plans.
After coming back to the fire nation, he could barely traffic any of the wizards, let alone capture them. So he decided he had to look into this problem and kill it from its roots.
He investigated more and found the name of the blue flamed wizard was Seraphina. She had blue fire power and it could moulde into anything she wished for. The dark market had been looking for a very rare power and in the top 20 list, Seraphina had taken the 2nd place.
He could not hold himself and started to make plans to get her. That was when he found out Seraphina was getting married to the water guild master.
He had heard how the water guild master was a King Tier at a younger age and if Seraphina went there, he would lose his chance. So, he thought of capturing her when the bride's carriage would be going. However, he had no idea his men would be defeated not by Seraphina but the best wizard in the Fire nation, Merlene.
Apparently, Merlene had also a good bounty on herself too. But she was well experienced in battles and wasn't easy to capture. The name was perfect for her. One woman army. It seemed Arctic Flame had very unique wizards and most of them had a good bounty on them.
Merlene was at no 29 in the list. She had no unique powers yet she had acquired the Grandilon's blessing. Which had the unlimited power of protection. She even reached the High tier at a young age.
He felt frustrated not because his plans had not been executed but because his old companion had managed to make some good wizards in his guild. Just how powerful he had become! No matter what he did, Jord was still able to defeat him. Even when he wasn't directly attacking him.
He wanted to kill them all especially, Jord Flameheart and make his pupils his pets. He would make his daughter his pet but now his chance had slipped. The wizard had gone to her husband's abode and it was difficult to get her from the Water Guild.
After a series of his plans, he found out the wizard wasn't in the Water nation, instead she was in the Dragon nation. Now, he had no chance at all!
But there were people who didn't want peace between the dragons and the wizards and some would give money to make war between them. Zekalis saw that was the opportunity he wanted. It was like killing two birds with one stone.
He would capture Seraphina and tell the fire nation that the dragons had killed her. That way, no one would be able to find her while he ship her off to a good buyer or better, he would make her his own personal toy. That would be the best revenge against Jord Flameheart.
However, what Zekalis didn't know was that the dragon nation wasn't easy to infiltrate. He had been finding opportunities and that was when he found it. Like the dark side of the wizard nation, the dragon nation had the mirror image of it. Some people didn't want the young prince of the nation to live and they would give enough money to anyone who would kill him before he turned fourteen.
Zekalis saw a light in his path and sent his men to enter the kingdom of Dragon Landing. He found out Seraphina was mistakenly married to the very prince who was to be killed before his age arrived.
He had a great double edged plan. If he killed the prince he would get the money and if he killed the wizard, he can always spread the rumor and create a war between the wizards and the dragons. Either way, he would get his share. There was nothing to lose. It was a perfect job for him. It was at what he was good at. Creating chaos.
However, his plans failed over and over by that wizard and that young prince. It was like they were stronger when they were together. He could not even get his hands on Seraphina nor did he kill the prince.
He tried in their journeys, he tried in their castle but nothing worked and when his wizards were defeated in Rockmond market, he was enraged. He saw how the Flame Queen, Jord Flameheart's daughter, fought. He was present there disguised as a commoner. He saw how she was saving the dragon prince.
Her fighting reminded him of Jord. The way she moved, the way she held those prideful eyes, the way she wasn't afraid of her death. All of those reminded him of his old companion. She was just like her father. Headstrong and stubborn. Even though she was injured, she fought bravely and it inched his whole body. He wanted to go and kill him just like how he wanted to kill Jord but he refrained himself when he saw help arrived.
And he reminded himself he could not rush things. He would take his revenge but not by killing her but by making Jord feel inferior to him.
A muffled sound of people chatting, shouting was heard from outside the door as Zekalis was seated in his chair looking at the beauty of the Rockmond city through the inn he was staying in. He had ragged clothes just as this city's people liked to don themselves with.
The door opened behind him as he asked, "Is everything ready?"
"Yes, Master." The man who had the same clothes as the Rockmond people said. "The glorious scents of Arhoura Grandelious had been prepared."
Zekalis nodded his head and asked, "Does that work?"
"Perfectly, Master."
A wicked grin formed on Zekalis's lips as he heard the noise of the street. Oil lamp posts lit it as the people leisurely walked.
"A beautiful city if you ask me, Horkof." Zekalis remarked as his companion nodded.
"Indeed it is."
"I could have been a merchant as well if I ever come to live here."
"But that would not be possible since the upcoming events won't allow it, Master." Horkof said making a frown on Zekalis's face. But it was short lived as he smiled.
"Of course, after all..." Zekalis said as he looked back at the city view, "Who could have thought that the Dragons have a weakness like this?"
