The Edge
It was slow going, what with the wounded Avenger dragon, and its rider sending them all death glares. She was perched on her dragon's back as Toothless and Stormfly helped Starshooter walk. The dragon was exhausted, but it kept sending worried glances at its rider, who petted it gently.
" Are you insane Hiccup?! We can't house the Avenger on the edge, it's too big!" Fishlegs hissed quietly, worry clear in his gaze.
" If we merge three stable in to one by taking down the dividing walls it should be big enough, cramped, but big enough," Hiccup decided.
Fishlegs nodded, flying ahead with Meatlug to start working on fixing up the recovery space. Hiccup decided it was time to ask some questions.
" So, uh, Starshooter is your dragon?" Hiccup asked conversationally.
" No, he's my friend, not my pet," the rider snapped curtly, grimacing in pain as Starshooter tripped slightly.
Hiccup almost cursed when he realized how his question had sounded, ugh, he had'nt meant it like that!
" Well, how did you two come to be friends?" He asked curiously.
" He saved me, I saved him," She replied shortly, stroking one her dragon's horns absentmindedly.
Hiccup got the message and stayed quiet, choosing instead to make sure that the Avenger made it back safely.
Winter hated being questioned. Berserkers loved to question her if they managed to each her out flying, and she despised it completely. Why did she have to share her personal life with these strangers? It was bad enough she had to rely on them now, if it wasn't for their ability to help her friend then she wouldn't have stuck around. Starshooter could easily straighten out her broken leg on his own, she didn't want to be anywhere near these people when she was wounded.
At least they'd didn't seem hell bent on capturing her, they seemed harmless enough, but suspicion was what kept her safe.
Starshooter let out a small whimpering roar as he tripped over a hidden root, making him stumble.
Hissing quietly to herself, she lent down near his ears.
" Hush now, Starshooter, we are almost safe, I promise you'll feel better soon," Winter murmured soothingly, scratching him behind his primary horns where he liked it.
He cooed back at her, making her smile slightly, before her attention was taken by their arrival.
This, ' Dragon's edge,' as they called it, was certainly nicer than anywhere she'd hidden out over the years. It seemed relatively new by the limited amount of housing, were these kids seriously the only ones living here? Where was the village? Where was the chief? Where was the smithery and markets?
Was this even a settlement at all?
" Welcome to the edge," One of the blonde idiotic ones welcomed, grinning strangely at her.
She figured he was the guy.
The short black hair done elbowed the blonde idiot out of the way and offered a hand to her.
" Allow me to help you dismount, Mademoiselle," He said in a sweet voice.
She stared at the offered hand for a moment before she decided she better take it or risk crumpling painfully to the ground. Using the help, she managed to find a shaky footing on the ground.
" Come, I'll escort you to somewhere you can rest," He murmured quietly, offering his shoulder as support.
She hesitated, casting a look at Starshooter, seeing the confirmation in his icy eyes, he wanted her to grow with the teen.
" Rest," Starshooter mimicked perfectly in the teen's voice.
Smiling gently and nodding to her friend, offering one last pat to his forehead she leant on the teen's shoulder, allowing him to lead her off.
" Thanks," She murmured softly, knowing it was appropriate.
He flashed her a smile.
" Snotlout at your service milady.........," Snotlout replied, leaving it open for her to answer his unspoken question.
" Winter, my name is Winter," She answered with a small grimace of pain as her leg bounced painfully along.
" Well, Winter, let's get you healed up so you can see that freaky dragon again," Snotlout grunted in amusement.
She snorted with larger at his description of Starshooter, he did tend to creep people out with his mimicking ability the first time he met them. Maybe this.....Snotlout.......wasn't so bad, but she wasn't ready to trust the others yet, not until they earned her faith.
