Chapter 113 [~|~] A New Era of Peace

A.N. This chapter reminded me that I still can't listen to the full Avatar's Love without tearing up.

So, this is the last official chapter (minus the epilogue). I try to wrap everything up here in a fluffy way. A bunch of OCs from the past make an appearance as well, so if there are names in here that you don't recognize, they're probably just OCs from a previous chapter.

Thank you so much to everyone who's made it this far and read my book!

It was finally the day of Zuko's coronation. Azara stared in the mirror as she finished applying her makeup for the ceremony. She adjusted her headpiece over her top knot once more before dabbing at her lipstick. She didn't usually enjoy getting all dressed up, but she supposed that she would have to for Zuko's coronation.

The dress was a deep red color, as all Fire Nation clothes were typically, with a straight neckline and off the shoulder trumpet sleeves that were made of lighter material. The bodice was decorated with gold overlays in the shape of twisting dragons. She wore a gold chocker necklace and gold cuffed vambraces, though her cactus bracelet was still securely placed on her wrist.

A knock came from her door, causing her to turn away from the mirror. "Come in!" she called, straightening up, thinking it was an attendant.

Spotting Sokka hobbling through the door on his crutch, Azara hurried over to help him through the door. "Sokka, you're going to fall," she laughed, closing the door behind her, before helping him to stand up properly. "You're like a baby turtleduck on that."

"Only because I saw how beautiful you look in your dress," Sokka flirted, causing Azara to blush. "Nearly fell over because you took my breath away."

"You really like it?" she asked bashfully as she helped him over to her desk.

"Well, not as much as I like you, but yeah, I think you look beautiful," Sokka complimented as Azara smiled up at him, her blush still warming her cheeks.

"You don't look so bad yourself in your Water Tribe armor," Azara replied, moving around so that she was standing in front of him. Glancing down at his armor again, Azara smiled up at Sokka. "You should really wear it more often."

"I'm sure I can arrange that."

Cupping Sokka's cheek with her hand, Azara gently guided him down to her lips. Sokka wrapped one arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him as he balanced on his crutch. Though Azara kept a tight hold on the front of his armor, making sure that he didn't bowl them both over and hurt himself more in the process.

Azara and Sokka pulled away as a knock came from the door again. Raising an eyebrow, Azara called for the person to come in. However, once the familiar face appeared in the doorframe, her eyes narrowed into a glare as she readied herself for a fight.

"What do you want, Izen?" she snapped as Sokka's eyes widened in shock for a moment before pulling out a knife. If he had Boomerang still with him, he would have already thrown it.

"I just wanted to talk," Izen stated, holding his hands up in a surrender motion.

"Why should she talk to you?" Sokka spat with venom in his tone. Izen stared at Sokka, glancing over his Water Tribe attire.

"You must be the boyfriend," Izen deduced. Azara and Sokka's glares intensified at his comment.

"Yes I am and I'm three seconds away from throwing this knife at your head," Sokka snapped warningly. Azara stepped forwards, putting herself in front of Sokka.

"What do you really want, Izen?"

"I wanted to apologize . . . for everything. The engagement . . . everything. And to thank you . . . you know, for not throwing my ass in the Boiling Rock," Izen replied, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly as Sokka continued to glare into his soul.

"Thank you for apologizing," Azara spoke diplomatically, though she was still on the defensive.

"I, uh, I thought you might want this," Izen replied, pulling a scroll out of his pocket, and holding it out to Azara. The Dragon Princess raised an eyebrow, glancing between Izen and the scroll.

"What is it?" she asked, walking over to grab it.

"It's the formal declaration of our engagement," Izen explained, causing Sokka to scoff loudly from behind Azara. "I thought you'd want to burn it yourself. Since you, uh, obviously don't want to marry me."

"Damn straight she doesn't," Sokka called, causing Azara's lips to twinge into a small, but amused smile. Glancing over the scroll, she noted the official seal at the bottom.

"It's the official copy, so once it's gone, it's gone. Forever."

"Thank you, Izen," Azara spoke sincerely, staring up at him.

Izen nodded firmly in response, before glancing over at Sokka, who was still glaring daggers at him. "I'll leave you two be." And without another word, he turned, and walked out of Azara's room.

"Is that really it?" Sokka asked as Azara returned to his side.

"Yeah, it is." Turning to the fireplace in her room, Azara lit it with a quick blast before turning to Sokka. Holding up the scroll, she held it out to him. "You want to help me burn it?" she offered, a wide smile on her lips.

"I'd like that. I'd really like that," Sokka replied, hobbling over. Together, they tossed the scroll into the flames. Raising the flames with her hand, Azara smiled as the scroll caught fire and burned up in a matter of seconds. It was gone, the final reminder of her imprisonment in her own home. It was over. She could finally move on.

Wrapping an arm around Sokka's waist, Azara leaned her head on his shoulder. "I love you," she told him, staring up at him through her eyelashes.

"I love you too," Sokka returned before leaning down and pressing a kiss to her lips. They hung around Azara's room for a few more minutes, before Sokka realized how late he was for meeting up with Katara to find their father. Azara reapplied her lip stain as Sokka exclaimed, "Oh crap, I have to go!"

"Alright—" Azara was cut off by his lips on hers.

"I'll see you out there then?" Sokka called over his shoulder as he hobbled away.

"Yeah," Azara chuckled before realizing that some of her makeup had rubbed off onto Sokka's face. "Wait, Sokka!" she warned, but he was already half-out the door.

"I love you!" he yelled back, unaware of the smudged red paint all over his lips.

Azara giggled to herself before looking back in the mirror. She supposed that perhaps Katara would forgive her brother's tardiness with the evidence of what he had been up to on his face. After she'd probably embarrassed him thoroughly, Azara thought.

Quickly fixing her lipstick, Azara headed out of her room and towards Zuko's new room. Knocking on the door, she waited for a response from within. "Yeah?" Zuko replied, sounding mildly annoyed at the knock.

"Do you need help, Zuko? Katara said your chest still hasn't healed fully," Azara offered, waiting outside the door.

"I got it!"

"You sure?"

"I'm fine, I'll meet you at the entrance."

"Okay," Azara trailed off, before her eyes widened as she heard a familiar female voice from inside the room. Smirking to herself, she knocked on the door again.

"What, Azara!?"

"Tell Mai I say hi. And make sure you're putting clothes on, Zuzu, not the other way around."

"Goodbye, Azara."

Azara laughed to herself before turning and walking down the hall. Heading towards the entrance to the ceremonial pavilion by herself, Azara gasped as she spotted a familiar white haired princess walking down the hall towards her.

"Yue!?"

Azara and Yue rushed to hug each other. "It's good to see you too, Azara," Yue chuckled before the two pulled back.

"I wasn't expecting you here," Azara spoke as the two straightened up. "How have you been? How's the Northern Water Tribe?"

"The Northern Water Tribe is doing amazing. And I'm glad that some of my people were able to help you," Yue replied, a wide smile on her lips. "I was sent here to represent the Northern Water Tribe to the new Fire Lord. But I wanted to find you and check in first."

"Well, I'm glad to hear everything's well with you," Azara returned with a kind smile. "I'm sure my brother would be more than happy to have an audience with you once the coronation has settled. And you just let me know if he's gives you any attitude and I'll handle him."

Yue laughed at Azara's words before smiling softly. "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." Yue paused for a moment before turning back to Azara. "And you know you sent Sokka out with your lipstick all over him, right?"

Azara blushed lightly at the accusation before nodding. "Yeah, I tried to stop him, but he was late and didn't listen to me."

"I think he regretted it as soon as Katara blasted some water in his face," Yue replied, causing Azara to laugh and nod. "And I'm happy for you guys. Glad that you two finally got together."

"Thanks, Yue. That means a lot coming from you." The two girls shared another hug, before Yue bid Azara goodbye and moved to head out to the pavilion with the other onlookers.

Azara turned and spotted her brother finally making his way towards her with his proper Fire Lord attire on. The two siblings shared a smile before walking side-by-side through the halls of their childhood home, heading towards the ceremonial pavilion. Aang sat by the entrance, dressed in airbending master robes, mediating peacefully while he waited for them.

As the siblings approached, Aang smiled and turned to look up at them. "I can't believe a year ago my purpose in life was hunting you down. And now . . ."

"And now we're friends," Aang finished for Zuko, a peaceful expression about him.

"Yeah, we are friends."

"I can't believe a year ago I was still frozen in a block of ice. The world's so different now."

"Well, with a couple of world leaders like ourselves, I think it'll be a good different. A better different," Azara spoke up, placing a hand on both of their shoulders. They shared a tight group hug before heading outside.

Zuko walked out first, as was customary, earning cheers from the crowd. He raised a hand, calling for silence. "Please. The real hero is the Avatar," Zuko announced before turning to Aang, motioning for him to walk forward. The crowd cheered again as Aang stepped forward, nodding, and smiling at the crowd.

"Today this war is finally over! I promised my uncle that I would restore the honor of the Fire Nation. And I will. The road ahead of us is challenging. A hundred years of fighting has left the world scarred and divided. But with the Avatar's help, we can get it back on the right path, and begin a new era of love and peace."

Zuko walked forward, kneeling down at the front of the stage. Azara picked up the Fire Lord headpiece and stepped up behind him. "All hail Fire Lord Zuko!" she announced, placed the headpiece into Zuko's top knot. Smiling as he rose, Azara cheered with the rest of the crowd. Zuko turned around, smiling at Aang and Azara, before motioning for them to join him at the front of the stage.

Azara landed the small airship outside of the Sun Warrior ruins. Making her way through the halls and paths, Azara found herself back in the Sun Spirit chamber. However, this time, when the doors shut and sealed behind her, she simply smiled and stepped closer to the water.

Waking up across from Uzume, Azara nodded to the spirit, who looked rather proud of the teenager. "You've done well, Dragon Princess. The spirits are all thrilled to see that you're starting the Fire Nation on the right path once more."

"Thank you, Uzume," Azara bowed respectfully as the spirit floated over.

"Though there is another restoration movement you must undertake now that the war is over," Uzume stated with a wide smile. Azara looked somewhat confused at Uzume's words as she straightened up in front of the spirit.

"What kind of restoration movement?"

Okami flew over, wrapping around Uzume, who smiled and rubbed his head affectionately. "You'll find it waiting for you back in the physical world," Uzume spoke before waving her hand, ending their brief meeting.

Plunging back into the water, Azara swam to the surface of the pool again. As she looked around the chamber, Azara paused as she spotted something shiny hidden among the rocks on the other side of the pool. Climbing out of the water, Azara walked up a small path to a new opening in the side of the chamber. A round egg of bright gold and white sat nestled in the small cove, reflecting the light from the sunstone back at Azara.

She carefully picked the egg up, cradling it gently to her chest. Feeling movement inside of the egg, her eyes widened before the egg started to crack. Azara held the egg out in front of her as a little head poked free, a baby dragon with bright white scales and gold accenting the edges, staring at her with big round eyes.

Azara decided to arrive to the Jasmine Dragon a few hours early before the official Team Avatar reunion to help Uncle set up. Walking down the Ba Sing Se streets, Azara smiled softly as she saw people rebuilding after the occupation. Children were laughing and running through the streets. The Dai Li weren't watching from the roofs. It was peaceful.

As she walked into the Jasmine Dragon, Azara smiled and waved to Jun and Shoma, who were helping set up some tables in the back. At the sight of her, Minung and Liang jumped up from their seats and rushed over to greet her.

"Wow, what is that?" Minung asked, his eyes widening at the sight of the small lizard perched on Azara's shoulder.

"This is Sola," Azara introduced, petting her dragon softly, before turning back to the kids. "She's my new friend."

"Wow! Daddy said dragons were extinct!"

"Well, I'm trying to change that, one dragon at a time," Azara replied with a kind smile. Sola nuzzled against her neck before climbing up into her hair.

After catching up with the children, Azara walked further into the tea shop, searching for her uncle. Heading into the back room, she spotted him chatting with a surprisingly familiar-looking woman as they brewed some tea together.

"Uncle?" Azara called, causing the two older adults to turn around.

"Ah, Azara, there you are. And who is your new friend?" Uncle asked, walking over to greet his niece.

"Uncle, this is Sola. Sola, this is Uncle Iroh," Azara introduced, gesturing between the two. Sola sniffed at Iroh, almost as if she remembered the older firebender before jumping over and curling up on his balding head. "I think she likes you," Azara chuckled before turning to the other person in the room. "And it's good to see you again, Min."

"You as well, Azara, dear. Glad to see you found your inner peace," Min responded, walking over with a kind smile on her face.

"You two know each other?" Iroh questioned, glancing between them. Sola jumped off him, crawling up Azara's arm and nestling on her shoulder again.

"Min offered me a cup of tea when I really needed one," Azara supplied, causing Iroh to smile.

"A woman after my own heart."

"Oh, it was nothing," Min chuckled, waving her hand to the side as she blushed.

Not wanting to see her uncle flirt any further, having heard the horror stories from Zuko, Azara excused herself before heading out of the kitchen. With help from Min and the other Fire Nation deserters, Uncle and Azara prepared the Jasmine Dragon for the reunion of Team Avatar. Once they were done, everyone headed home for the festival, bidding Iroh and Azara good luck.

A few hours since she had arrived in Ba Sing Se, she heard the distinct groan of Appa in the distance and smiled. Azara greeted all of her friends happily, though Sola was weary of most of them. She seemed to like the Zuko best, which had Sokka pouting, but then Sola nestled on top of his head after he offered her some meat.

As everyone settled into the Jasmine Dragon, Iroh decided to pull out his tsungi horn, playing his usual tune. Zuko, who months ago hated his job as a tea server, happily walked around the room and served his friends and family cups of tea. Azara chatted with Mai and Katara as Zuko walked over to their table.

"Zuko, stop moving!" Sokka demanded from where he was painting. "I'm trying to capture the moment! I wanted to do a painting, so we always remember the good times together."

"That's very thoughtful of you, Sokka," Katara commented as she walked over. However, once she noticed the painting itself, she frowned. "Wait, why did you give me Momo's ears?"

"Those are your hair loopies!"

"At least you don't look like a boar-q-pine! My hair is not that spiky!" Zuko complained, leaning over Sokka's shoulder.

"I look like a man," Mai sighed in a deadpan.

"Why did you paint me firebending?" Suki asked, tilting her head to the side.

"And me bending everything that isn't fire?" Azara added, raising an eyebrow at her boyfriend.

"I thought it looked more exciting that way," Sokka shrugged as Momo jumped up onto the table and chittered loudly. "Oh, you think you can do a better job, Momo?"

"Hey, my belly's not that big anymore! I've really trimmed down," Uncle replied, pointing at the painting.

"Well, I think you all look perfect!" Toph announced, holding her hands up in the air.

Everyone laughed at the blind earthbender's comment before going back to their tea and conversations. Sokka continued to paint, though there was a narrow miss when little Sola sneezed, catching the corner of the painting with a small flame that Azara quickly put out.

"Hey, where did Aang and Katara go?" Sokka realized after a few moments had passed. He got up from his table, cradling the parchment. "I want to show Aang my painting. He's the only one who didn't complain!"

"I don't know. Haven't seen them," Azara replied, watching as Sola curled up on some of the embers left over from the fire to heat the tea.

"Maybe they're checking on Appa," Sokka deduced before heading outside.

Azara was in the middle of speaking with Zuko and Uncle when Sokka's startled yelp echoed from the balcony. Running outside, Azara gasped as she noticed the scene. Sokka was gagging, looking rather disturbed, Katara was yelling at Sokka, and Aang was waving his arms around awkwardly. Realizing what was going on, or perhaps what had been interrupted, Azara ran over to Sokka.

"Come on, leave them be, Sokka."

"But, ugh, my sister and my best friend!"

"We have to watch you and Azara all the time Sokka!" Katara complained, shooting a glare at her brother.

"She does have a point," Azara told Sokka, who still looked rather ill.

"But—"

"—Come on, Cactus Brain," Azara laughed, tugging him back towards the Jasmine Dragon. As she pushed him towards the stairs, Azara turned back to Katara and Aang. Holding her thumbs up, she winked, whispered 'have fun', and headed back inside.

"Why were you yelling?" Suki asked Sokka, who had slumped into a chair.

"I saw my best friend and my little sister kissing," Sokka replied as Azara shook her head at him.

"That must be so traumatic walking in on your little sister and her boyfriend together," Zuko muttered sarcastically, shooting Sokka a look.

"Yeah, it was," Sokka agreed, completely missing Zuko's point.

The sun had set by the time that everyone went their separate ways for the night. Ba Sing Se was full of fireworks and celebrations as the festival activities commenced. Azara and Sokka stood on the back porch of their temporary residence, staring up at the fireworks together.

"Hard to believe it's all over," Azara commented before turning to her boyfriend with a smile on her lips.

"Yeah, but I think we'll like this next chapter."

"Me too," Azara chuckled before grabbing his hand. Giving it a squeeze, she stood up straight. "Come on, let's dance."

"What?"

"We can hear all the music from the festival. Let's dance, Cactus Brain."

Laughing, Azara tugged Sokka into the yard. She spun around, grabbing his hands, and placed one on her waist. Holding their hands together, she placed her other hand on his shoulder before they spun around the yard. They were both horrible dancers, but that didn't seem to matter, because they were having far too much fun to care about their technique.

As the song they were dancing to winded down, Sokka spun Azara back into his arms. Azara smiled widely as she placed her hands against his chest. Sokka tightened his own hold on his girlfriend, his hands securely on her hips.

"I love you, my Dragon Princess," Sokka stated, smiling down at his girlfriend.

"I love you too, my Wolf Warrior," she returned, before leaning up to connect their lips.

The music and noise from the festival behind them melted away. Not even the chirps of the crickets or sound of distant fireworks pulled them out of their moment alone. Because, despite everything that the universe threw at them, they were together. And no one—no psychotic father, no war, no innocent friend, or meddling sibling—was going to ruin it for them.

And for a moment it was just the two of them. The moon was the only witness to their love for each other. And it was perfect.

END OF BOOK 3

A.N. Ahh, this is it! The final chapter! Well, I guess there's the epilogue, but still.

Thank you so much to everyone who read, commented, and voted on this book! When I started in nearly two years ago, I could have never imagined getting to this point, and I know I wouldn't have without your continued support, so thank you!

It's hard to believe that this story is over, but I don't think I'll say goodbye to Azara forever at this point. I'm already considering a rewrite with a few tweaks to the plot and some heavy editing, though I'll definitely take a break before undertaking that task again. I also really enjoyed writing the AU sections for some of the Book 3 episodes and the epilogue, so maybe I'll write a bunch of AU one shots or a shorter sequel when they're older. We'll see. I decided to leave a lot of things open ended as a result so I have more to work with if I ever write a sequel.

But I just wanted to reiterate my thanks to all you lovely readers! Now, please enjoy the two part epilogue next.
