Ch. 6 Just a Bruise
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Hammering nails in a quiet village is not the best feeling in the world, it feels like your disturbing a nursing home that's fast asleep. But at least I know that's not the case.
I felt weird about fixing this random guys home without permission. But I'm fixing my mistake at least.
Hiccup already sawed away the broken wood and sized the planks just right to fit the hole. I was just putting them into place.
Working kinda helped take my mind off of things, mainly Elsa not wanting to come for me. Instead memories flooded my head.
The time when I was 9 and I crashed my bike making a hole in the wall. Mom made me help the maids clean it up. And fix the wall
That one time when I was 7 and I threw a melon off the roof and it dented the roof. Dad said I wasn't allowed on the roof but I didn't listen, helped fix that to. Why a melon you ask? I wanted to see if it bounced.
I was 13 and I DESTROYED a horse buggy for turning too sharp of a corner. Well the captain of the guard had me pick up all the pieces. After he yelled at me for it. Mom and dad were pretty mad to but not as much yelling as the guard did.
Good memories all of them. If there's one thing I learned from them is to clean up your mistakes and help fix them. Which is exactly what Mom and Dad would've wanted. It's been almost 5 years after their death, I miss them an awful lot but I still talk to them when I'm alone. Last board. I picked it up and put it into place it fit perfectly.
Bang

I miss them. They were both great. Elsa looks a lot like mom in my opinion, just ya'know with white hair instead of black.... Elsa where could she be?
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Why hasn't she and Kristoff come for me? What island has they paired with? Do they even miss me?
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
How much longer will I be here? BANG!! What's going on? BANG! WILL I STAY ON THIS MISERABLE ISLAND FOREVER!!!!
BANG!!!
"Ouch!" I screamed as I hit the hammer in the center of my left hand. I held it in pain hopping around trying to walk off the pain. There was a BIG bruise left on my hand where I hit myself.
I looked at the house. It was fixed, it just needed a sealer to fill in the cracks. I picked up the hammer and nails and set them in the bucket and took it back to Gobber's carrying everything in my right hand. It started to sprinkle I need to seal the house fast I ran in set down the bucket and dug around for the paint like substance. Once I found it iI quickly got back to the house and slathered on a coat as neatly as I could. The wind picked up which helped it dry faster I ran back to the shop and put everything away. My hand started swelling and the pain was excruciating. I gently touched my left hand, it wasn't broken thank goodness but it still hurt. I need ice but I doubt they have any here. I looked around anyway, nothing. So I wrapped it with some extra cloth that was lying around.
I decided to go back to the house. it was getting late I decided to make supper. They didn't have much but I did find some salmon. I'll just make a stew out of that. With my hand still hurting I threw in onions, potatoes, carrots, and a couple spices, making sure I'd have enough for extra as well. I'd have to let the stuff sit there for a while.
Sitting there staring at the pot was no fun so I looked around the house there were many swords and spears and shields on the walls. It was interesting I kinda liked it, however everything was so dusty and kinda rusted, the floor was a mess to, it needed a sweep.
Well I better do something waiting for the stew. I grabbed an old bucket and went to the shop, where I got squid ink, charcoal and whiskey. I mixed those together until it felt like an abrasive soap. (Which I learned from Gobber) This was for the rusting decorations on the walls.
I ran back to the house. My left hand still sore but getting better. I carefully took down each weapon and scrubbed the squid ink on each one then I washed it of in another bucket of water. It came out shiny and looking new. Once that was done I swept the floor humming to myself. I don't know why but when I'm in the mood to clean I always hum or sing.
"Do you wanna build a snowman?"
"Come on let's go and play"
"I never see you anymore"
"Come out the door, its like you've gone away"
"We used to be best buddies"
"But now we're not, I wish you would tell me why"
"Do you wanna build a snowman?"
"It doesn't have to be a snowman.........
..........."
"Ok,... bye"
"Do you wanna build a snowman?"
"Or ride our bike around the hall?"
"I think some company is overdue"
"I've started talking to the pictures on the wall"
"Hang in their Thor"
"It gets a little lonely, not a friend in sight just watching the days go by"
Tick tock tick tock tick tock......
.
.
.
"Elsa?"
"Please I know your out there"
"I've been wondering where you've been"
"I'm telling you to have courage, and I'm trying too, I'm here waiting for you, just please save me."
"I don't know what you're doing, its scary here, what am I gonna do."
..... "do you wanna build a snowman?".........
Elsa I need you, where are you?
A few tears fell down my face. What am I going to do?
Another horn sounded and I heard dragon screeches. I ran to the front door and saw the islanders coming back as well as the others came out of the great hall. Surrounding Hiccup asking questions. Which he answered but I was still in the doorway and couldn't hear. So I went back to sweeping. I finally got the whole room swept and started sweeping it out the doorway when my broom knocked into a foot and a peg leg. And I jumped back
" I see you kept yourself busy." Gobber said as he walked in slightly wet from the rain.
I smiled, I thought it was Hiccup for a second.
"Yeah I just decided to clean a little," I smiled
"More like a lot, you shined every weapon on the wall. That takes elbow grease." He comments
"I was frustrated," I said quietly hoping he wouldn't ask why.
"I see.... what did you do to your hand?" He asked.
I moved my injured hand behind my back.
"Nothing..... just a bruise" I said a total unconvincing way.
"Oh no you don't, you wrapped that hand up for a reason missy now what happened." He said sternly in the way my dad did when something like this happened.
I sighed but unwrapped my hand. It was more swollen than I thought. And my whole hand except for my fingers was almost purple now.
"It wasn't this bad..... before" I said quietly as he inspected it.
"Odins beard lassie, what did you do?" He shouted.
"I uh.....don't... know?" I said not wanting to tell him about secretly fixing a house.
"Alright but you need some ice on it, I'll go get some." He said as he walked out.
I sighed. I really don't want anyone to know I fixed the house because then they think I may have sabotaged it or something. It's just better to keep it quiet.
I sat down. I stared at the stew I made. It should be done but I'll still keep it warm till everyone gets back. I looked at my hand. It looked horrible. like I'd been in a fight or something. I touched it an winced it was painful.
"What on earth did you do to yourself this time?"
I jumped and fell off the chair I was sitting on. Hiccup.
"Geez..... You scared me." I replied meekly.
"I can see that, now what did you do do to your hand it's practically black." He said stating the obvious.
He offered his wet forearm to me which I only saw due to me looking at his feet not wanting to make eye contact. I slowly took his hand with my right and he helped me up. Then he grabbed my left arm and examined my hand as if it were a murder weapon.
"It's just a bruise.." I said
"A bruise the size of a spear head." He replied but his tone wasn't as cold as usual.
"Really I'm fine." I said a little sterner calmly pulling my hand away.
"Well you should still put it on ice for a day to help the swelling go down." He stated calmly.
"Gobber is getting some," I replied looking at his chest armor the whole time
This is the first time Hiccup and I had a normal conversation, that didn't involve glaring. Then again this is only my 2nd actual conversation with the guy.
Gobber returned with Valka and that Astrid girl all slightly soaked.
"Here's yer ice." He said as he gave it to Hiccup and he gently laid it on my hand.
"I see you started supper," Valka said inhaling the sent of the stew.
"It's almost finished"
"Well let's get a fire going to dry off." Gobber suggested
"Good idea"
