Ch. 5 Klutz
Days turned into weeks as I spent most of my time in Gobber's shop, if not there I'm at Hiccups house cleaning and keeping myself busy and away from Hiccup as much as possible. I've been here for a month and I've heard of nothing about the war or of Elsa trying to get me back. The thought sent shivers down my spine but I supposed because I'm a prisoner I wouldn't be able to hear anything. It worries me but I distract myself with whatever Gobber needs me to do.
"Go fetch some more water for this hot iron will ya" Gobber said red faced and pounding away at the Groncle iron.
"Yes sir" I saluted playfully.
Gobber and I had become well acquainted actually, once I was comfortable enough talking to him, we became friends. He was very impressed I knew some about combat as I studied fencing with the guards when I was 13 and a bit about the blacksmithing due to me breaking so many swords and other stuff. I grabbed two pails and headed for the well. I got halfway there when.
"Have you heard?" Someone whisper shouted behind a house.
"Yeah the ice witch has made plans of joining forces with some unknown island" Someone whispered back.
I stopped dead in my tracks and hid behind a wooden dragon statue. Listening carefully to every word.
"The only other islands around here are the ones inhabited by dragons and the southern ones, and the witch stopped trading with them a year and a half ago." One of them said.
I leaned in closer. We would never strike a deal with the southern isles, nor with Westleton.
"All I know is, is that she's upset about her sister but barely negotiating at all."
There is NO way my sister isn't negotiating for me to get back home that's just impossible! I leaned in closer to continue listening.
"The thing about the mysterious island is that-"
I was leaning too close I fell on my back and knocked loose the foundation for the statue! There was loud slow creaking of wood then, it snapped! Falling onto a house creating a hole big enough for a Nadder head to fit through. Oh boy.
The two people whispering ran off in a different direction and the homeowner came out looking pretty ticked off.
"What were you doing?!" The gruff looking home owner said he looked like an older version of Snotlout.
"I was walking to get some water for Gobber when I tripped" I meekly said. Not a total lie but I didn't wanna let him know I was spying.
"Look what you did to my house!!!" He yelled.
"I'm sorry I'll-"
"Sorry isn't gonna fix my house!" He continued to yell waving his arms furiously.
"I can fix it for you." I shakily said.
"Yeah right like I'm gonna let a clumsy "princess" fix my house" he screamed
"What's going on here Spitelout? Your yelling could be heard from Valhalla." Gobber said annoyed walking up behind me and helping me up.
"That, little klutz just put a hole in my house," he said pointing to the fallen statue and the hole it made. "She probably meant to do it to!" I grimaced and hung my head I really didn't mean to it was an accident.
Just then Hiccup flew over. As if my day couldn't get any worse.
"What happened here?" Hiccup asked.
"She did! She broke my house!" Spitelout pointed an accusing finger at me. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Hiccup death glaring me. I wouldn't survive looking Hiccup in the eye, it be too much to handle with my.... condition. I continued to hang my head.
"Alright well, Gobber go get the wood and tools to replace the hole toothless and I will remove the statue, Spitelout help us out and you " He said turning to me with a voice cold and unforgiving, "will get the water for Gobber. Go back to the house. And stay there. Got it?"
With my head hung low avoiding eye contact quietly nodded, grabbed my buckets and got out of there as fast as I could. I went to the well and sighed. Why wasn't Elsa trying to get me home? What mysterious island could've they partnered with?...... Why wasn't I getting interrogated?
After the buckets were filled I walked passed Spitelouts house again. Hiccup and Toothless were just setting some wood down to fix the hole I created. I slowed my pace to a stop and watched. It interested me they way the worked with the dragons like they weren't just oxen or horses pulling a carriage. They were also best friends to these people. Like partners...... It reminded me of Kristoff and Sven I smiled then my face fell even further than it had been
I snapped out of my dazed state and continued to walk to Gobber's looking down for the most part.
Little did I know I had two certain vikings watching me.
I emptied the buckets into a barrel and put them away. I didn't wanna think of why Elsa or Kristoff wouldn't want me back. I gripped my stomach at the thought. My insides felt like snakes were slithering inside them. My knees buckled, I lost balance, my head was spinning.
"Have you seen where the huge nails are? They should be in a bucket." Gobber asked walking in. I stood still but lifted my head to look. "We don't have enough to start fixing yet but........ Are you alright? you look a bit pale, was it something you ate?"
"No, *cough* no Its nothing It's just....." I trailed off slightly shaking.
Suddenly a loud low horn when off and the whole mood of the island chillingly changed. Which didn't help my state
"What's going on?" I asked weakly. Finally getting over my sick feeling but jumping into a new one.
"Well princess that is the sound of the attack horn." He said as he rushed towards his had attachments
"Your gonna attack someone?" I asked confused.
"No, we're under attack, so I suggest you go back to the house." He said more of a command than a suggestion.
He grabbed his battle ax attachment and mounted his dragon and quickly took off while I sat there watching the whole island go into a frenzy. Almost everyone went out to fight.
Hiccup flew over my head to join with the gang. I ducked further into Gobber's shop
"What about the princess?" Fishlegs yelled over the frenzy.
"She'll be fine she went back to my house, it doesn't matter, come on we gotta go!" Hiccup commanded and they all flew of in the same direction.
All the women who had children or those in no shape to fight went to the great hall once they all packed in they closed the big doors and barricaded themselves inside. I came out of Gobber's shop completely oblivious as to what just happened. Then I smacked my forehead and ran right to the docks. As soon as I got there I looked around not many boats..... then another thought hit me. I don't even know how to sail. Nor do I know how to sail all by myself.
"Damn it!" I huffed stomping my foot on the boardwalk and turning my heal to go back up to Hiccup's house.
After I finally got back up the and reached Hiccup's door I remembered I left my journal at Gobber's shop. I sighed and walked sulkily to Gobber's. Gobber had given me the small back room in his shop that he doesn't use. It's nice, small and has a lot of old drawings and sketches of dragons and gadgets. I never asked who they belonged to but they were amazing to look at. I like to keep my journal there sometimes either to copy sketches or write thoughts about the place.
I searched and searched for my journal but it wasn't anywhere in the shop.
I had it this morning in the shop I was doodling. Then I remember placing it in a bucket under the hammers this morning to hide it from Hiccup when he walked in. Hiccup loves to glare at me when I'm not working. Even though I'm sure he glares at me anyway. At least while I'm working I don't notice it as much.
Found it! It was right where I left it. Under the bucket of nails.
