Ch. 4 Breakfast

I didn't come out of my room for 3 days. Only reason I did come out because I was starving. Everything was sore and tired  the "bed" was uncomfortable and I had serious dehydration issues from crying the whole time. It was early in the morning really early, nobody else was up. I looked around in the kitchen for something to eat. I found 6 eggs on a table, well why not I'll make some scrambled eggs. I cracked two eggs in a cold skillet and stirred them. I need firewood. I looked around trying to find some but there was none. I heard a soft chuckle from the stairs.
"You know a smarter idea would've been to start the fire before you cracked some eggs" Valka softly smiled at me
"Sorry the fire is always lit in the castle, and I guess I'm not thinking straight.." I replied softly
Valka laughed a laugh that reminded me of my mother I smiled a soft, small, quiet smile.
"Well considering you haven't eaten in 3 days its no surprise your not thinking straight...... Cloudjumper would you light the fire?" Suddenly the ceiling started moving! Or wait, not the ceiling, a dragon!!!! It was massive and had 4 wings!!! I can't believe I didn't notice it!! It blasted a flame in the fire pit. I stumbled backwards into a table. Not having the energy, strength, mental or physical stability to deal with dragons again.
"I'm guessing your not to keen on dragons yet. And after what my son did I'm not blaming you."
I said nothing I just carefully grabbed the skillet and put it on a stand over the fire keeping the dragon in the corner of my eye. I was slowly stirring the eggs with a wooden spoon when 4 more eggs splashed in the pan and I jumped back.
"Better make some for Hiccup and I as well." Valka briskly stated. I nodded quickly and quietly.
"Well Miss Anna your a cook expert what shall I put in these eggs to make them great?" She asked bright eyed.
She had been the only one who had shown kindness to me and been genuine about it. She also reminded me of someone I just couldn't think who.
"Do you have cheese?" I mumbled quietly.
"So you didn't loose your voice, yes we have cheese, anything else?" She asked cheerily walking towards a small nook with various vegetables in baskets.
"Salt and pepper? Maybe some ham and peppers?" I spoke softly but slightly louder than before.
She grabbed all the items while I stirred the eggs.
"We don't have ham but I found some sausages"
"That will do" I said. She gave me the cheese and I gestured for her too add the salt and pepper.
"How much?" she asked excitedly.
"Just a pinch of each." I say while pinching my fingers close to my eye.
She chuckles and sprinkles it in while I threw in bits of cheese, peppers and the sausage. We both looked at each other and giggled. No reason, but it was nice. Soon I heard a door open and shut, and clunking of a peg leg walking down the stairs. Great.
"What's cooking it smells good." He yawned lazily.
I continued with my eggs staying as silent as possible making sure not to look at those eyes. Green eyes will haunt me for as long as I live.
"Anna and I are making eggs and sausage." Valka proudly proclaimed as Hiccup rolled his eyes at his mother.
"So you finally left of your room eh?" He smirked raising a brow
"Got hungry" I quietly mumbled taking the eggs and sausage out the pan and putting them on plates
"Well considering you starved yourself." Hiccup remarked as I scooped some on his plate. He replied with a sincere thanks and I nodded.
"Well considering what you did I don't blame her I mean look at her, the poor thing is still scared to death. She's barely said a word all morning." Valka talked casually as if it happened everyday.
"Well it was pretty funny and we need to lighten the mood while this war is going on." He casually replied back.
I barely processed any of that I was to hungry to care or be upset. I slowly chewed my sausage feeling a bit better. They continued discussing something I couldn't focus on I didn't realize how hungry I was. But I guess being taken from your home makes you forget most things. A cup set down in front of my place at the table. I looked up at Valka smiling her smile. I smiled back and took the cup at first drinking slowly then gulping down the rest of it. Note to self never starve yourself for three days then only eat 2 eggs and a cup of water for breakfast.
"Here's an apple" Valka tossed me one and I ate it gratefully.
"Ok princess Gobber needs your help today weather you like it or not so let's go." He said as he pushed me out the door.
"Bye mom" he called.
"Bye dears don't be too hard on her son!" She called back
"No promises" he smirked and I quietly groaned.
We walked to Gobber's shop which was relatively close to Hiccup's house Toothless trailing behind us. When we walked in he was sharpening some swords which caught my interest for some odd reason.
"Gobber! Your assistant is here to work her first day!" Hiccup yelled at Goobber.
He finished sharpening the sword and threw in in a barrel.
"Bout time, works been piling up you know. Just like how it used to 6 years ago." He grinned at Hiccup.
"Yeah well 6 years ago we were fighting dragons, not an ice witch." He grinned back
"She's not a witch.." I quietly mumbled to myself so they couldn't hear.
"Anyway I should head off," Hiccup turned to me. "Snotlout will check on you after your done with Gobber got it?" He said his tone rough and annoyed. I only nodded my head
"She's not much of a talker, which is a good thing for you she won't be blabbing your ears off," he smirked at Gobber, and turned back to me "actually you should be concerned about him blabbing your ear off" Hiccup chuckled in my direction
Gobber laughing threw a small bead at Hiccup which hit him on the shoulder Hiccup flinched smiling, then walked out the door
I watched Hiccup put on his helmet and mount his dragon. Toothless giving me one of his signature smiles before taking off. I turned back to Gobber and he was looking at me funny.
"What?" I ask embarrassed and uncomfortable.
"I was just thinking what I could use you for." He walked over to me and lifted up my arm and inspected my hand. "Small dainty hands and weak arms don't do well in a blacksmiths place lass" he said as a matter of factly "but we can fix that, the same way I fixed Hiccup."
"What do you mean by that?" I asked.
"Oh just that I'll have you work hard here that's all, and no special treatment just because your a princess. Here take all the newly sharpened weapons and separate the battle axes from the wood axes and then put them in these barrels, here's another barrel for swords." He stated rolling three barrels at the front of the shop.
"No no, I mean the Hiccup thing." I explained picking up the swords first.
"Well Hiccup worked here himself when he was about 15" he explained.
"I see." I continued my work. Putting everything away. Gobber continued to ramble on about the importance of starting good work ethic at a young age and how he worked here when he was 9 with is dad. I continued organizing which wasn't hard but still not fun Gobber continued sharpening and talk while I kept organizing his shop and finding places for stuff nodding every once in a while. Strangely everything in here fascinated me. The trinkets the machinery it was so different from ours back home. Until I found a weird looking hand attachment thing.
"Uhh what do you want done with this?" I asked Gobber looked up from his sharpening.
"Oh that can go on my hand wheel" he pointed to a rotating wheel of other hand attachments I couldn't find an empty spot.
"Pull the lever next to it" he commanded in a friendly voice. Which I did and it started turning. I jumped back at the surprise and pushed back the lever fascinated at what happened. I set his attachment in its place still fascinated.
"There's a lot more surprises where that came from princess." Gobber smiled seeing my slight excitement.
I may be a prisoner I may have lost everything but this place is fascinating.
