Chapter 2

We headed towards town square, holding up our Kjoli skirts as we speed-walked into town.

"YAZMINA! There you are! Always arriving at the last possible moment. Thank you, Meredith, for making sure she actually came." Ma said smiling at Mer and rolling her eyes at me.

"Well at least we made it," Mer said, interrupting the silent argument between Ma and I.

"Yep,'' I said, steering Mer in the opposite direction.

"WELCOME, FAIRIES,SPRITES, QUAZARLA, AND ELVES! IT IS NOW TIME FOR YOU TO PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE SEATING AREA FOR THE CEREMONY TO BEGIN" A voice boomed from above.

There was a huge platform in the center of town square, that was moved there only on special occasions, this being one of them. It was a big, wooden platfom, with maroon velvet curtains and bright lights, stationed right next to the fountain in the center of town. The fountain was the main attracion of the town. In the center of it, there was a huge statue of a red dragon, swirling around in circles, surrounded by water.

We walked over to the side of the stage, where you could see the rest of the town behind the platform, and the large castle in the distance.

I nervously looked at Mer. She gave me a reassuring smile and nudged me towards the back of the stage. I looked at the crowd from off-stage. It was huge. There were tiny fairies, magical sprites, all-powerful quazarla, but mostly elves like us. There were tables everywhere covered in pies, danishes, strudels, and so many other pastries. There were streamers surrounding the town square, and placed carefully on a small table, was the Dragon of Deseri. It glimmered in the sunlight a bright gleaming gold with a marble bust. I nervously looked at Mer again, she smiled, looked up, and pushed me on stage.
